Four new movies are opening nationwide this weekend:

One of the most talked about and ambitious film of the season is the epic adventure drama Cloud Atlas directed by Tom Tykwer and Andy & Lana Wachowski and starring Tom Hanks, Halle Berry, Jim Broadbent, Hugo Weaving, Jim Sturgess, Doona Bae, Ben Whishaw, James D’Arcy, Xun Zhou, Keith David, David Gyasi, Susan Sarandon and Hugh Grant. The film’s music is composed by Tom Tykwer, Johnny Klimek and Reinhold Heil. WaterTower Music has released a soundtrack album featuring the score earlier this week. Also opening wide is the horror sequel Silent Hill: Revelation 3D based on the video game, directed by Michael J. Bassett and starring Sean Bean, Deborah Kara Unger, Radha Mitchell, Adelaide Clemens, Kit Harington, Carrie-Anne Moss and Malcolm McDowell. Jeff Danna and Akira Yamaoka who preciously scored the first installment in the series have written the music for the film. ‘Cloud Atlas’ Soundtrack Details

The details of the soundtrack album for the sci-fi film Cloud Atlas have been revealed. The album features the film’s original music composed by Tom Tykwer, Johnny Klimek and Reinhold Heil. The soundtrack will be released on October 23, 2012 by WaterTower Music and is now available for pre-order on Amazon. Check out audio clips after the jump. Cloud Atlas is directed by Tykwer and Andy & Lana Wachowski and stars Tom Hanks, Halle Berry, Jim Broadbent, Hugo Weaving, Jim Sturgess, Doona Bae, Ben Whishaw, James D’Arcy, Xun Zhou, Keith David, David Gyasi, Susan Sarandon and Hugh Grant. The movie recently premiered at the Toronto Film Festival and will be released nationwide on October 26 by Warner Bros. Pictures.

Johnny Klimek & Reinhold Heil Scoring ‘I, Frankenstein’

Reinhold Heil and Johnny Klimek are currently scoring the action monster movie I, Frankenstein. The film is directed by Stuart Beattie and stars Aaron Eckhart as Frankenstein’s monster Adam, who has survived to present day due to a genetic quirk in his creation and is being pursued by demons wanting to gain the secret of his reanimated corpse. Yvonne Strahovski, Bill Nighy and Miranda Otto are co-starring in the movie, which is based on the comic by Kevin Grevioux. Tom Rosenberg & Gary Lucchesi (Million Dollar Baby, Underworld), Andrew Mason (Dark City) and Richard Wright (Underworld, The Lincoln Lawyer) are producing the Lakeshore Entertainment and Hopscotch Features production.

Film Music Festival in Krakow to Celebrate Elliot Goldenthal

Composer Elliot Goldenthal will be celebrated in concert at the Film Music Festival in Krakow on Saturday, May 26 at the Tinning Plant of ArcelorMittal Poland in Krakow. The concert will be performed by the Polish Orchestra Sinfonietta Cracovia accompanied by Pro Musica Mundi Choir and the boys’ choir Pueri Contores Sancti Nicolai and conducted by composer Diego Navarro. The first part of the concert program – Alien – The Biomechanical Symphony – will be devoted to music from all four Alien films in the sci-fi saga and will feature suites from Goldenthal’s music for Alien 3, as well as from Jerry Goldsmith’s Alien, James Horner’s Aliens and John Frizzell’s Alien: Resurrection scores. The second part of the program – Elliot Goldenthal’s Cinema of Art & Blood – will feature music from some of Goldenthal’s collaborations with director Julie Taymor including Frida (for which the composer received his first Academy Award) and Titus in addition to his music from Neil Jordan’s Interview with a Vampire and Joel Schumacher’s Batman Forever.

Four new movies are opening in wide release this weekend:

Opening in most theaters is the war movie Act of Valor directed by Scott Waugh & Mike “Mouse” McCoy about a group of active-duty Navy SEALs that is sent across the globe as they track the terrorist ring to the U.S.-Mexico border. Relativity Music has released a soundtrack album featuring the film’s country songs by artists including Keith Urban, Sugarland and Lady Antebellum. Also opening wide is the thriller Gone directed by Heitor Dhalia and starring Amanda Seyfried, Daniel Dunjata, Jennifer Carpenter, Sebastian Stan and Wes Bentley. The film’s score is written by David Buckley (The Town, Forbidden Kingdom). Lakeshore Records has released a soundtrack album featuring the composer’s score digitally earlier this week and the CD version is set to come out next month. Reinhold Heil & Johnny Klimek to Reunite with Tom Tykwer on ‘Cloud Atlas’

Reinhold Heil, Johnny Klimek and Tom Tykwer have recently written and recorded music for the director’s upcoming sci-fi feature Cloud Atlas. The movie written and co-directed by Andy & Lana Wachowski and Tykwer stars Tom Hanks, Jim Sturgess, Halle Berry, Hugo Weaving, Susan Sarandon, Hugh Grant, Keith David, Ben Whishaw and Jim Broadbent. The film based on the novel by David Mitchell intertwines six stories spanning different times that sees one character shaped from a murderer to a savior. Stefan Arndt (Run Lola Run) and Philip Lee are producing with Tykwer and the Wachowskis. Heil and Klimek have been collaborating with Tykwer on the music for most of the director’s previous features, most recently on the Clive Owen- and Naomi Watts-starring thriller The International and the German language film 3.

‘Killer Elite’ Soundtrack Released

Cutting Edge Group’s Pale Blue label has released a soundtrack album for the action thriller Killer Elite. The album features the orginal score by composers Johnny Klimek and Reinhold Heil, as well as the song Turkish Acid Bath by the English rock band Kasabian. The soundtrack has been released this past Tuesday and is now available digitally in different formats on Pale Blue Soundtracks’ website. Killer Elite is directed by Gary McKendry and stars Jason Statham, Robert De Niro, Clive Owen, Yvonne Strahovski, Dominic Purcell and Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje.

Four new movies are opening in wide release this weekend:

Opening in most theaters is the the family movie Dolphin Tale directed by Charles Martin Smith and starring Morgan Freeman, Ashley Judd, Harry Connick, Jr., Kris Kristofferson and Nathan Gamble. The film’s score is written by Mark Isham. Varese Sarabande will be releasing the soundtrack album including Isham’s music on October 11, 2011. Also opening this weekend is the drama Moneyball directed by Bennett Mikler and starring Brad Pitt, Robin Wright, Jonah Hill, Philip Seymour Hoffman and Chris Pratt. The film’s music is composed by Mychael Danna. A soundtrack album featuring Danna’s score, as well as two songs by Kerris Dorsey and This Will Destroy You has been released earlier this week on Madison Gate Records. Johnny Klimek & Reinhold Heil scoring ‘The Killer Elite’

Film Music Reporter has learned that the composer duo of Johnny Klimek and Reinhold Heil is scoring the upcoming action thriller The Killer Elite. The film directed by Gary McKendry stars Jason Statham, Robert De Niro, Clive Owen, Yvonne Strahovski, Dominic Purcell and Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje. The movie is based on the Ranulph Fiennes novel The Feather Men and and follows a group of former British special forces members who are being hunted by assassins. Among the film’s producers is Michael Boughen, who produced last year’s Australian hit movie Tomorrow, When the War Began, which featured a score by Klimek & Heil. No release date has been set yet for the Australian/American co-production, but the movie is expected to open later this year.
