Antonio Pinto has signed on to score the action thriller Snitch. The film is directed by Ric Roman Waugh (Felon) and stars Dwayne Johnson as a father who is forced to become an informant for the DEA to reduce his falsely accused son’s 10-year jail sentence. Susan Sarandon, Barry Pepper, Benjamin Bratt, Jon Bernthal, Harold Perrineau, Melina Kanakaredes, Michael Kenneth Williams, Rafi Gavron and Nadine Velazquez are co-starring. Waugh adapted the screenplay from an original script by Justin Haythe (Revolutionary Road). Johnson is producing the Exclusive Media Group, Participant Media and Imagenation Abu Dhabi production with Dany Garcia and David Fanni.

Thomas Newman & Alex Wurman Scoring Aaron Sorkin’s ‘The Newsroom’
Thomas Newman has recently recorded the main titles theme, as well as the score for the pilot of the new HBO drama The Newsroom. Composer Alex Wurman is currently scoring the other episodes of the show’s first season. The series is created by Academy Award- and mutiple Emmy Award-winning writer Aaron Sorkin (The Social Network, The West Wing) and stars Jeff Daniels as a cable news anchor and Emily Mortimer as his executive producer. Sam Waterston, John Gallagher, Jr., Alison Pill, Thomas Sadoski, Dev Patel and Olivia Munn are co-starring. Sorkin is executive producing the series with Scott Rudin (No Country for Old Men) and Alan Poul (Six Feet Under).
Rupert Gregson-Williams & Christopher Willis Scoring HBO’s ‘Veep’
Rupert Gregson-Williams and Christopher Willis are scoring the new HBO comedy series Veep. The political satire is created by Armando Iannucci (In the Loop) and stars Julia Louis-Dreyfus as former senator Selina Meyer, a rising star in her party and charismatic leader who seemed to have unlimited potential, until she became vice president and soon discovers the job is nothing like she expected, but everything she was warned about. Tony Hale, Anna Chlumsky, Matt Walsh, Reid Scott, Timothy C. Simons and Sufe Bradshaw are co-starring. Armando Iannucci co-wrote and directed the pilot and is also executive producing the show with Frank Rich of New York Magazine and Christopher Godsick (Take the Lead).
‘Game of Thrones’ Season 2 Soundtrack Announced
Varese Sarabande Records has announced a soundtrack album for the second season of the HBO hit series Game of Thrones. The album features selections of the score from the show’s second season by composer Ramin Djawadi (Iron Man, Prison Break). The soundtrack will be released on May 29, 2012 and is now available for pre-order on Amazon. Check back on this page for the full details, including cover art and track list. The label has previously released an album featuring music from the first season last year. Game of Thrones has been nominated nominated for 13 Emmy Awards last year and received the honor for Best Main Title Design and the supporting performance by Peter Dinklage who also won a Golden Globe earlier this year. The first season is now available on Blu-Ray and DVD and the second season currently airs every Sunday night on HBO.
Marcelo Zarvos to Score HBO’s Phil Spector Biopic
Marcelo Zarvos has been hired to score the upcoming and currently untitled HBO movie about Phil Spector. The film is written and directed by David Mamet (Glengarry Glenn Ross, The Untouchables) and stars Al Pacino as Spector and Helen Mirren as his defense attorney Linda Kenney Baden. The movie explores the client-attorney relationship between the legendary music producer and his attorney who represented Spector during his first trial for the murder of Lana Clarkson. Jeffrey Tambor, James Tolkan and Martin Jarvis are co-starring. Michael Hausman (Recount, The People vs. Larry Flynt) is producing the project while Barry Levinson is executive producing alongside Pacino and Mamet. Zarvos has previously collaborated with Levinson a number of times, most recently on the sci-fi horror thriller The Bay, which is still awaiting a release date.
Jeff Beal Scoring ‘GCB’
Jeff Beal is scoring the new ABC comedy drama GCB (previously entitled Good Christian Belles). The show created by Robert Harling (Steel Magnolia, The First Wives Club) is based on Kim Gatlin’s book Good Christian Bitches and centers on a recently divorced mother of two who moves back to the affluent Dallas neighborhood where she grew up to find herself in the whirling midst of salacious gossip, Botox, and fraud. The series’ cast includes Leslie Bibb (Iron Man, Popular), Kristin Chenoweth (Pushing Daisies), Marisol Nichols (24), as well as Mark Deklin, Miriam Schor, Jennifer Aspen, Annie Potts, David James Elliott and Brad Beyer. Darren Starr (Sex and the City) is executive producing the show with Harling, Gretchen J. Berg, Aaron Harberts, Aaron Kaplan and Alan Poul (The Back-up Plan) who also directed the pilot episode.
Michael Penn Scoring HBO’s ‘Girls’
Michael Penn has recently scored the new HBO comedy series Girls. The show is created by Lena Dunham (Tiny Furniture) who also stars in the comedy alongside Jemima Kirke, Allison Williams, Adam Driver and Zosia Mamet. The comedy follows the lives of a small group of friends in their early 20’s trying to chart their lives in New York City. Dunham wrote and directed the pilot of the series, which she executive produces along with Judd Apatow and Jenni Konner. The project marks Penn’s first major TV scoring assignment. His previous feature credits include Boogie Nights, Sunshine Cleaning and The Last Kiss. Girls‘ first season of ten episodes is set to debut on April 15, 2012 and will be airing every Sunday night on HBO.

In our sixth and final part of our fall television series, we are taking a look at the major new shows on the cable networks:
One of this fall’s most talked about new shows is American Horror Story created by Ryan Murphy & Brad Falchuk and starring Dylan McDermott, Connie Britton, Jessica Lange, Evan Peters, Taissa Farmiga and Denis O’Hare. The series has recently received two Golden Globe nominations for Best TV Drama and for Lange’s performance. The show’s score is composed by James Levine who has worked on most of Murphy’s projects in the last decade, including Nip/Tuck, Glee and the feature film Running with Scissors. The drama has also been using a lot of pre-existing score music from composers such as Bernard Herrmann and Alan Silvestri. Nathaniel Mechaly to Score ‘The Transporter’ TV series
Nathaniel Mechaly has signed on to score the upcoming TV adaptation of Luc Besson’s action franchise The Transporter. The show centers on professional transporter Frank Martin, who opertates in a seedy underworld of dangerous criminals and desperate players. Chris Vance (Prison Break stars in the title role that was played by Jason Statham in the film series. Andrea Osvart, Francois Berleand (Tell No One), who will reprise his role as Inspector Tarconi from the Transporter features, Delphine Chaneac (Splice) and Rachel Skarsten (Birds of Prey) are co-starring. Stephen Williams (Lost) directed the pilot and Luc Besson is among the executive producers on the show. The Transporter is a co-production of HBO, HBO Canada, France’s M6 and Germany’s RTL Television.
Dickon Hinchliffe to Score ‘Shadow Dancer’
Dickon Hinchliffe has been hired to score the upcoming thriller Shadow Dancer. The movie is directed by James Marsh (Man on Wire) and stars Clive Owen, Andrea Riseborough, Aidan Gillen and Gillian Anderson. The film follows a young mother who is heavily involved in the Irish Republican movement and loses her younger brother at the hands of the British security forces. The BBC Films production is written by Tom Bradby and produced by Chris Coen (Funny Games), Andrew Lowe (This Must Be The Place) and Ed Guiney (The Guard).
