ATO Records will release a new soundtrack album for HBO’s hit series True Blood. The album features songs from the show by artists including Iggy Pop with Bethany Cosentino, Eric Burdon with Jenny Lewis, Howlin’ Wolf, Los Lobos, The Flaming Lips, The Heavy, The Naked and Famous, Warpaint, Mobley, Deap Vally and Koko Taylor. The fourth soundtrack for the series will be released on May 28, 2013 and is now available for pre-order on Amazon. Check out our previous article for the details of the last volume. The fifth season of True Blood created by Alan Ball and starring Anna Paquin, Stephen Moyer, Ryan Kwanten and Sam Trammell will be released on Blu-ray and DVD on May 21 and the sixth season is set to premiere on June 16, 2013 on HBO.

Weekly TV Music Roundup (April 14, 2013)
Premiering tomorrow, April 15 is the new sci-fi series Defiance created by Rockne S. O’Bannon (Farscape) and starring Grant Bowler, Julie Benz, Stephanie Leonidas, Jaime Murray, Tony Curran, Graham Greene, Mia Kirshner and Fionnula Flanagan. Bear McCreary (Battlestar Galactica, The Walking Dead) is composing the show’s score. It has been announced this past week that the composer’s new label Sparks & Shadows will release a soundtrack album later this year. A soundtrack for the crossover MMO video game is already available. Defiance is set in a post-apocalyptic future St. Louis after a lengthy war on Earth between humans and a consortium of invading alien races has completely transformed the surface of the planet. Weekly TV Music Roundup (March 24, 2013)
Premiering tonight is the HBO original movie Phil Spector written and directed by David Mamet and starring Al Pacino the t he legendary music producer and Helen Mirren as his defense attorney Linda Kenney Baden. Jeffrey Tambor, James Tolkan and Martin Jarvis are co-starring. The film’s original score is composed by Marcelo Zarvos who has previously scored a number of HBO films, including You Don’t Know Jack for Barry Levinson who is executive producing Phil Spector. George Fenton Scoring Stephen Frears’ ‘Muhammad Ali’s Greatest Fight’
George Fenton is scoring the upcoming HBO original movie Muhammad Ali’s Greatest Fight. The film is directed by Stephen Frears and stars Christopher Plummer, Frank Langella, Benjamin Walker, Danny Glover, Barry Levinson, Pablo Schreiber, Ed Begley Jr., Bob Balaban and Kathleen Chalfant. The movie chronicles Ali’s battle with the Supreme Court over his Muslim beliefs as a conscientious objector during the Vietnam War. Instead of casting an actor to play the boxing legend, the film will utilize actual footage of Ali. The screenplay is written by Shawn Slovo (Captain Corelli’s Mandolin) and Frank Doelger (Game of Thrones), Tracey Scoffield (Dirty Pretty Things) and Jonathan Cameron are executive producing the HBO Films production.
Soundtrack for HBO’s ‘Girls’ Announced
Fueled by Ramen has announced a soundtrack release for HBO’s critically acclaimed comedy drama series Girls. The album features songs from the show by artists including Santihold, Grouplove, Fun., Robyn, Harper Simon, Belle & Sebastian, The Vaccines and Icona Pop. Also featured is the original song On Your Way from the finale of the first season by the series’ composer Michael Penn. The soundtrack will be released on January 8, 2013. The CD version is now available for pre-order on Amazon. A digital release including four additional tracks will also be released the same day. Girls created by and starring Lena Dunham and produced by Judd Apatow follows a close group of twenty-somethings as they chart their lives in New York City. The first season was nominated in the Best Comedy category at this year’s Emmy Awards and was just released on Blu-Ray and DVD this week.

A couple of new TV shows are premiering this week:
Premiering on October 16 is the CW drama Emily Owens, M.D. created by Jennie Snyder Urman (Something Borrowed) and starring Mamie Gummer, Justin Hartley, Michael Rady, Aja Naomi King, Kelly McCreary and Necar Zadegan. The show’s score is composed by Jim Dooley (Pushing Daisies, When a Stranger Calls). The series follows a newly minted doctor looking for a fresh start in the adult professional world, who discovers that life at the hospital where she works is no different than high school. ‘Parade’s End’ Soundtrack Details
Varese Sarabande has announced the details of the soundtrack album for the BBC and HBO mini-series Parade’s End. The album featuring the series’ original score composed by Dirk Brossé. The soundtrack will be released digitally on October 2, 2012 and is now available to download on Amazon. Check out audio clips from all tracks on the album below. Parade’s End based on the tetralogy of novels by Ford Madox Ford stars Benedict Cumberbatch, Rebecca Hall, Adelaide Clemens, Rupert Everett, Miranda Richardson, Anne-Marie Duff, Roger Allam, Janet McTeer, Stephen Graham and Jack Huston. Susanna White (Nanny McPhee Returns) is directing the series and Academy Award-winning screenwriter Tom Stoppard (Shakespeare in Love, Anna Karenina) has adapted the novels for the small screen.
Philip Miller Scoring ‘The Girl’
Philip Miller is scoring the upcoming drama The Girl. The film is directed by Julian Jarrold and stars Toby Jones as Alfred Hitchcock and Sienna Miller as Tippi Hedren who starred in the filmmaker’s The Birds and Marnie. The movie chronicles the obsessive relationship the director had with the actress. Also starring are Imelda Staunton as Alma Hitchcock and Penelope Wilton as Peggy Robertson, Hitchcock’s loyal assistant. Gwyneth Hughes (Miss Austen Regrets) has written the screenplay for the BBC Two production and Amanda Jenks (An Englishman in New York) is producing the project. HBO Films is co-producing the TV drama. Jarrold has previously collaborated with composer Adrian Johnston on his previous four features, including Becoming Jane, Brideshead Revisited and Kinky Boots. Miller’s best known previous credit is Phillip Noyce’s 2006 drama Catch a Fire starring Tim Robbins and Derek Luke. The Girl is expected to air later this year on BBC Two.
’41’ Soundtrack Announced
Lakeshore Records has announced a soundtrack release for the HBO documentary 41. The album features the film’s music composed by Mark Kilian (Tsotsi, Rendition). The soundtrack will be released digitally on July 3, 2012 and is now available for pre-order on Amazon. Audio clips from all tracks on the album can be checked out after the jump. 41 is directed by Jeffrey Roth and takes a look on the life and career of former president George H.W. Bush. The documentary premiered earlier this month on HBO.
‘Hemingway & Gellhorn’ Soundtrack Details
Varese Sarabande Records has announced the details of the soundtrack release for HBO’s drama Hemingway & Gellhorn. The album features the original score from the film written by Academy Award-nominated composer Javier Navarrete (Pan’s Labyrinth, Wrath of the Titans). Also included is the song Ay Carmela performed by both Voces Del Pueblo and Alarcon. The soundtrack will be released on June 12, 2012 and is now available for pre-order on Amazon. Hemingway & Gellhorn is directed by Philip Kaufman and stars Clive Owen, Nicole Kidman, David Strathairn, Parker Posey, Rodrigo Santoro, Molly Parker, Lars Ulrich, Peter Coyote, Diane Baker and Tony Shalhoub. The film tells the story of the romance between Ernest Hemingway and WWII correspondent Martha Gellhorn, Hemingway’s inspiration for For Whom the Bell Tolls. The drama will premiere on May 28, 2012 on HBO.
