Focus Features has published the complete scores of its major awards contenders this season. Among the titles is Gus Van Sant’s drama Promised Land, which features music composed by Danny Elfman. The film starring Matt Damon, John Krasinski, Rosemarie DeWitt, Hal Holbrook, Scoot McNairy, Titus Welliver and Frances McDormand also features an original song, Snake Eyes, written by Kenneth A. Pattengale and Joseph Edward Ryan, which is being pushed for awards consideration. No soundtrack release has been announced yet.

Weekly Film Music Roundup (November 16, 2012)
Guaranteed to top the weekend box office is the final part in The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn – Part 2 directed by Bill Condon and starring Kristen Stewart, Robert Pattinson and Taylor Lautner. The film’s music is composed by Carter Burwell. Summit Entertainment, Chop Shop Records and Atlantic Records have released a soundtrack album featuring the songs from and inspired by the film by artists including Passion Pit, Ellie Goulding, Green Day and Feist. Opening in limited release is the comedy drama Silver Linings Playbook directed by David O. Russell and starring Bradley Cooper, Jennifer Lawrence, Robert De Niro, Julia Stiles, Jacki Weaver and Chris Tucker. Danny Elfman has composed the film’s score. Sony Masterworks has released a soundtrack featuring the songs featured in the film by Stevie Wonder, Alabama Shakes, alt-K, Les Paul & Mary Ford, Rare Earth and Bob Dylan & Johnny Cash, as well as two tracks by Elfman. ‘Quartet’ Soundtrack Details
Decca Music will release a soundtrack album for Dustin Hoffman’s comedy drama Quartet. The album features selections from the film’s original score composed by Dario Marianelli (Atonement, Pride and Prejudice), as well as the classical pieces featured in the movie by composers including Giuseppe Fortunino, Francesco Verdi, Giacomo Puccini, Gioacchino Rossini and Franz Joseph Haydn. The soundtrack will be released on December 18, 2012 and is now available for pre-order on Amazon. The cover art and audio clips will be added to this article within the next few weeks. Quartet starring Maggie Smith, Billy Connolly, Tom Courtenay, Michael Gambon and Pauline Collins follows a group retired Opera singers who annually put on a concert to celebrate Verdis birthday.
‘Anna Karenina’ Soundtrack Details
The track list for the soundtrack release of Joe Wright’s upcoming new film adaptation of Anna Karenina has been revealed. The album features the film’s original music written by Academy Award-winning composer Dario Marianelli (Atonement, Pride & Prejudice). The soundtrack is set to be released in the UK on September 10, 2012 by Decca Classics. UPDATE (September 2, 2012): The album is set to be released in the US on November 13 and is now available for pre-order on Amazon. Audio clips can be checked out below. Anna Karenina starring Keira Knightley, Jude Law, Aaron Johnson, Matthew MacFadyen, Kelly Macdonald and Olivia Williams is opening in the UK next month. Focus Features has set the domestic release for November 16, 2012.
Decca Classics to Release Dario Marianelli’s ‘Anna Karenina’ Soundtrack
Decca Classics will be releasing the official soundtrack album for Joe Wright’s film adaptation of Leo Tolstoy’s Anna Karenina. The album features the film’s original music composed by Dario Marianelli who has received his first Academy Award for his work on the director’s Atonement and also was also honored with another Oscar nomination for Wright’s Pride & Prejudice. The soundtrack will be released on September 1o, 2012 in the UK. A domestic release is expected closer to the film’s US in November. Anna Karenina stars Keira Knightley, Jude Law, Aaron Johnson, Matthew MacFadyen, Kelly Macdonald and Olivia Williams. The film will be released in the UK in September and on November 16, 2012 in the US.
Dario Marianelli Scoring Dustin Hoffman’s ‘Quartet’
Dario Marianelli has scored the upcoming comedy Quartet. The film marks the directorial debut of Dustin Hoffman and stars Maggie Smith, Billy Connolly, Michael Gambon and Pauline Collins. The movie tells the story of a group of retired opera singers who each year stage an opera to raise funds for the home in which they reside. Ronald Harwood (The Pianist, The Diving Bell and the Butterfly) has written the screenplay based on his own play and Finola Dwyer (An Education) and Stewart Mackinnon (the upcoming The Invisible Woman) are producing the comedy. The music was recorded at Angel Studios in London.
Dario Marianelli to Score Steven Knight’s ‘Hummingbird’
Dario Marianelli has been hired to score the upcoming thriller Hummingbird. The film marks the directorial debut of screenwriter Steven Knight (Eastern Promises, Dirty Pretty Things) and stars Jason Statham as an Afghanistan veteran haunted by tragic events of the past who assumes the identity of an upper class Londoner. When his pregnant girlfriend is found dead, he uses his connections in the Chinese mob to find the man responsible Knight has also written the screenplay and Paul Webster (Atonement, Pride & Prejudice) who has worked with Marianelli a number of times before is producing the IM Global production.

Three new movies are opening wide this weekend:
Opening in most theaters is the fantasy epic John Carter directed by Andrew Stanton and starring Taylor Kitsch, Willem Dafoe, Lynn Collins, Thomas Haden Church, Samantha Morton, Dominic West, Mark Strong, James Purefoy and Bryan Cranston. The film’s music is composed by Michael Giacchino. Walt Disney Records has released a soundtrack album featuring the composer’s score. Also opening wide is the family comedy A Thousand Words directed by Brian Robbins and starring Eddie Murphy, Ariel Winter, Kerry Washington and Allison Janney. John Debney who previously worked with the director on the sci-fi comedy Meet Dave has written the score for the movie. No soundtrack album has been announced. ‘Salmon Fishing in the Yemen’ Soundtrack Announced
Lakeshore Records will be releasing the soundtrack album for the comedy drama Salmon Fishing in the Yemen. The album includes the original score from the movie composed by Academy Award-winning composer Dario Marianelli (Atonement, Pride and Prejudice). Dario Marianelli to Score Brian De Palma’s ‘Passion’

SBS Productions has confirmed to Film Music Reporter that Dario Marianelli is set to score Brian De Palma’s upcoming drama Passion. The movie starring Rachel McAdams and Noomi Rapace is a remake of the French psychodrama Love Crime (Crime d’amour) directed by Alain Corneau and starring Kristin Scott Thomas and Ludivine Sagnier as two ruthless executives, one of whom is driven to murder the other. The rest of the cast has yet to be announced. Saïd Ben Saïd (Carnage) is producing the project through SBS Productions and Integral Films is the German partner. Brian De Palma has worked with some of film music’s most respected composers throughout his career. The director’s previous musical collaborators include Ennio Morricone (The Untouchables), John Williams (The Fury), Bernard Herrmann (Sisters), Danny Elfman (Mission Impossible), Patrick Doyle (Carlito’s Way), Ryuchi Sakamoto (Snake Eyes), Giorgio Moroder (Scarface), Pino Dinaggio (Dressed to Kill) and Mark Isham (The Black Dahlia).
