Dario Marianelli has been hired to score the upcoming thriller Hummingbird. The film marks the directorial debut of screenwriter Steven Knight (Eastern Promises, Dirty Pretty Things) and stars Jason Statham as an Afghanistan veteran haunted by tragic events of the past who assumes the identity of an upper class Londoner. When his pregnant girlfriend is found dead, he uses his connections in the Chinese mob to find the man responsible Knight has also written the screenplay and Paul Webster (Atonement, Pride & Prejudice) who has worked with Marianelli a number of times before is producing the IM Global production. Academy Award-winning cinematographer Chris Menges (The Mission, The Killing Fields) is also involved in the project. Lionsgate has picked up both US and UK rights and a release in 2013 is targeted.

The composer also recently recorded his music for Joe Wright’s Anna Karenina at Air Studios in London. The film starring Keira Knightley, Jude Law and Aaron Johnson will be released in the UK in September and Focus Features is handling the domestic release in November.
