Producer Cassian Elwes has confirmed in a recent conversation with Deadline that Danny Elfman (Batman, SpiderMan, Beetlejuice, The Nightmare Before Christmas, Edward Scissorhands, Avengers: Age of Ultron, Men in Black, Alice in Wonderland) is set to score the upcoming hostage thriller Dead Man’s Wire. The film is directed by Gus Van Sant and stars Bill Skarsgard, Dacre Montgomery, Al Pacino, Kelly Lynch, Myha’la, Cary Elwes and Colman Domingo. The movie is based on a true story and follows a former real estate developer who takes the mortgage banker who did him wrong hostage, demanding $5 million and a personal apology.

‘Don’t Worry, He Won’t Get Far on Foot’ Soundtrack Details
Sony Classical will release a soundtrack album for Gus Van Sant’s drama Don’t Worry, He Won’t Get Far on Foot. The album features the film’s original music composed by Danny Elfman (Batman, Spider-Man, Alice in Wonderland, The Nightmare Before Christmas) who previously collaborated with the director on numerous projects including Good Will Hunting and Milk. Also included is John Callahan’s song Texas When You Go, as well as a track by Alex Somers (Captain Fantastic, Aloha) who composed additional music for the movie. The soundtrack is set to be released on July 6, 2018 and is now available for pre-order on Amazon.

Danny Elfman is reteaming with director Gus Van Sant on the upcoming biographical drama Don’t Worry, He Won’t Get Far on Foot. The film is written and directed by Van Sant and stars Joaquin Phoenix, Rooney Mara, Jonah Hill and Jack Black. The movie tells the story of quadriplegic cartoonist John Callahan who became paralyzed following a car accident at the age of 21 and turned to art as a form of therapy, drawing by clutching a pen between his two hands.
Mason Bates Scoring Gus Van Sant’s ‘The Sea of Trees’
Mason Bates has recently recorded his first film score for the upcoming drama The Sea of Trees. The film is directed by Gus Van Sant and stars Matthew McConaughey, Ken Watanabe, Naomi Watts and Jordan Gavaris. The movie follows two men on a journey of reflection and survival in the Aokigahara, a mysterious dense forest at the base of Japan’s Mount Fuji where a reportedly large amount of suicides occur. Chris Sparling (Buried, ATM) has written the screenplay and is also producing the project with Van Sant, Gil Netter (Life of Pi), Ken Kao (Rampart), Kevin Halloran, F. Gary Gray (Law Abiding Citizen, The Italian Job), Brian Dobbins and Allen Fischer. Bates is best known as a composer of symphonic music, which he often combines with harmonies of jazz and electronic music.
Danny Elfman’s ‘Good Will Hunting’ Score to Be Released
Music Box Records has announced a new soundtrack album for the 1997 drama Good Will Hunting directed by Gus Van Sant and starring Matt Damon, Robin Williams, Ben Affleck and Minnie Driver. The album features the complete score from the film composed by Danny Elfman (Spider-Man, Batman) who would later reunite with the director on such films as Milk, Psycho, Restless and Promised Land. The composer’s music was previously only commercially released with two tracks on the original soundtrack album. Also featured on the new album are six tracks of indie songwriter Elliott Smith who was Oscar-nominated for the song Miss Misery in the Best Original Song category. Elfman also received an Academy Award nomination for his score and the film won the award for Williams’ supporting actor performance and Damon’s and Affleck’s screenplay. La-La Land Records has announced a soundtrack release for Gus Van Sant’s 2011 drama Restless. The album features the film’s original score composed by Danny Elfman who has previously scored the director’s features Milk, Psychoand To Die For and also collaborated with Van Sant on last year’s Promised Land. The soundtrack is limited to 2000 copies and is now available to order on La-La Land’s official website, where you can also check out audio clips. Restless is produced by Ron and Bryce Dallas Howard and stars Mia Wasikowska and Henry Hooper. The movie about teenage boy and girl who share a preoccupation with mortality was released in theaters in 2011 and is now available on Blu-ray and DVD.

Danny Elfman to Score ‘Hitchcock’ Biopic and Gus Van Sant’s ‘Promised Land’
Danny Elfman has signed on to score the upcoming biographical comedy drama Hitchcock. The film is directed by Sacha Gervasi (Anvil: The Story of Anvil, screenwriter of The Terminal) and follows the iconic director’s struggles during the filmmaking of the horror classic Psycho. Anthony Hopkins stars in the title role, alongside Scarlett Johansson and James D’Arcy who portray Psycho stars Janet Leigh and Anthony Perkins, as well as Helen Mirren as Hitchcock’s wife Alma. Toni Collette, Michael Stuhlbarg, Jessica Biel and Danny Huston are also starring. Actor Paul Schackman appears as Psycho‘s composer Bernard Herrmann. John McLaughlin (Black Swan) has written the film’s script and Ivan Reitman (Ghostbusters), Joe Medjuck (Disturbia, Old School), Tom Pollack and Tom Thayer are producing the Montecito Picture Company and Fox Searchlight Pictures production.
Elfman to score Gus Van Sant’s Restless
In a recent interview with Collider, Elfman confirmed that he will score Gus Van Sant’s upcoming drama Restless (previously untitled). The movie revolves around a teenage boy and girl who share a preoccupation with mortality. The movie is produced by Ron Howard and Bryce Dallas Howard. Restless stars Mia Wasikowska (Alice in Wonderland). Restless marks Elfman’s fifth collaboration with Van Sant after To Die For, Good Will Hunting, Psycho and Milk. A release date for the movie produced by Imagine Entertainment has yet to be announced.
Elfman will score the movie before he starts working on Michel Gondry’s The Green Hornet. The comic book adaptation starring Seth Rogen, Cameron Diaz, Christoph Waltz and Tom Wilkinson. The movie is scheduled to be released this December by Sony Pictures.
