Two new movies are opening in wide release:
Opening in most theaters is the film adaptation of the Broadway musical Jersey Boys directed by Clint Eastwood and starring John Lloyd Young, Erich Bergen, Michael Lomenda, Vincent Piazza and Christopher Walken. Rhino Records has released a soundtrack album featuring the songs from the film and the musical written by Bob Gaudio and featuring lyrics by Bob Crewe, as well as original recordings by Frankie Vallie & The Four Seasons. Also opening wide is the comedy sequel Think Like a Man Too directed by Tim Story and starring Kevin Hart, Regina Hall, Taraji P. Henson, Michael Ealy, Jerry Ferrara, Gabrielle Union, La La Anthony, Meagan Good, Terrence J, Adam Brody, Wendi McLendon-Covey and David Walton. Epic Records has released a soundtrack album featuring the songs from and inspired by the film by Mary J. Blige. Check out our previous article for the full album details. Christopher Lennertz (Horrible Bosses, Ride Along, Revolution) has composed the film’s original score. A score album featuring the composer’s music is set to be released by Varese Sarabande.
Dario Marianelli has signed on to score Laika Entertainment’s upcoming 3D stop-motion and CG hybrid animated feature The Boxtrolls. The movie is directed by Anthony Stacchi (co-director of Open Season) and Graham Annable (story artist on Coraline and ParaNorman) and features the voice talent of Ben Kingsley, Toni Collette, Elle Fanning, Isaac Hempstead-Wright, Jared Harris, Simon Pegg, Nick Frost, Richard Ayoade and Tracy Morgan. The film is based on the novel Here Be Monsters by Alan Snow and takes place in Cheesebridge, a posh Victorian-era where people believe the Boxtrolls crawl out of the sewers at night and steal their children and cheeses, when in reality they’re a cavern-dwelling community of quirky and lovable oddballs. 
Dario Marianelli has been hired to score the upcoming romantic drama Third Person. The film is written and directed by Paul Haggis and stars Liam Neeson, Mila Kunis, Adrien Brody, James Franco, Olivia Wilde, Maria Bello, Kim Basinger and Moran Atias. The movie follows three inter-connected love stories of three couples in three cities: Rome, Paris and New York. Haggis is also producing the project with Paul Breuls (The Devil’s Double, Killing Season) and Michael Nozik (Syriana, The Motorcycle Diaries). Haggis has previously collaborated with composers Mark Isham (Crash, In the Valley of Elah) and Danny Elfman (The Next Three Days) on his last directorial efforts. 
Opening in most theaters is the action thriller White House Down directed by Roland Emmerich and starring Channing Tatum, Jamie Foxx, Maggie Gyllenhaal, Jason Clarke, James Woods, Richard Jenkins, Joey King and Rachelle Lefevre. The film’s music is composed by Thomas Wander and Harald Kloser (2012, 10’000 B.C., The Day After Tomorrow). Also opening wide is the buddy cop comedy The Heat directed by Paul Feig and starring Sandra Bullock, Melissa McCarthy, Demian Bichir, Marlon Wayans and Michael Rapaport. Lakeshore Records has released a soundtrack album earlier this week featuring the songs from the film by artists including LCD Soundsytem, Santigold, Kimbra, The Isley Brothers, Angel Haze, Parliament, Azealia Banks, Ted Nugent, Boston and Kreayshawn. Metropolis Movie Music will release a soundtrack album for the thriller Hummingbird. The album features the film’s original score written by Academy Award-winning composer Dario Marianelli (Atonement, Anna Karenina, Pride and Prejudice). The soundtrack will be released digitally in the UK on June 25, 2013. No word yet on a domestic release date. Hummingbird, which will be released in the US under the title Redemption, is directed by Steven Knight (screenwriter of Eastern Promises) and stars Jason Statham as an Afghanistan veteran haunted by tragic events of the past who assumes the identity of an upper class Londoner. Vicky McClure, Ian Pirie and Agata Buzek are co-starring. Lionsgate/Roadside Attractions will release the film in the US on June 28 in theaters and on VOD. 
Dario Marianelli is currently scoring the upcoming drama A Long Way Down. The film based on the novel by Nick Hornby (About a Boy, High Fidelity) marks the English language directing debut of French filmmaker Pascal Chaumeil. Pierce Brosnan, Toni Collette, Aaron Paul, Rosamund Pike, Sam Neill and Imogen Poots are starring in the movie, which follows four strangers who meet on New Year’s Eve on the top of a London skyscraper, who each had intended to jump off but make a pact to stay alive and help each other. Jack Thorne adapted the material for the screen. Finola Dwyer (An Education) and Amanda Posey (Fever Pitch) are producing the project for Wildgaze Films.
