Opening in theaters nationwide this week is the horror comedy Studio 666 directed by BJ McDonnell and starring Dave Grohl, Taylor Hawkins, Chris Shiflett, Pat Smear, Nate Mendel, Rami Jaffee, Whitney Cummings, Will Forte, Jenna Ortega, Leslie Grossman and Jeff Garlin. The film’s original score is composed by Roy Mayorga (best known as the drummer of Ministry, Hellyeah and Stone Sour). John Carpenter has written the theme song and Foo Fighters have contributed the original songs for the fictional band Dream Widow. Also opening wide following an awards-qualifying release in December is the movie musical Cyrano directed by Joe Wright and starring Peter Dinklage, Haley Bennett, Kelvin Harrison Jr. and Ben Mendelsohn. The National’s Bryce Dessner (The Two Popes, The Kitchen) & Aaron Dessner (C’mon C’mon, Jockey) have composed the film’s original score and songs. Decca Records has released a soundtrack album featuring the composers’ songs and score last year. Jeff Toyne Scoring David Hackl’s ‘Daughter of the Wolf’ & Paul A. Kaufman’s ‘Butter’

Jeff Toyne (Rogue, Dirty Girl, 9/11, You Me Her) has recently composed the music for the upcoming thriller Daughter of the Wolf. The film is directed by David Hackl (Saw V, Into the Grizzly Maze) and stars Richard Dreyfuss, Gina Carano, Brendan Fehr, Anton Gillis-Adelman and Sydelle Noel. The movie follows a woman who returns home from her tour in the Middle East to the news of her father’s passing. When word spreads about her large inheritance, her son is kidnapped and held for ransom by a local gang.

Two new movies are opening in wide release this weekend:

Opening in most theaters is the action thriller Taken 2 directed by Olivier Megaton and starring Liam Neeson, Maggie Grace, Famke Janssen and Rade Šerbedžija. The film’s music is composed by Nathaniel Mechaly who previously scored the 2008 original film. A soundtrack album featuring the composer’s score, as well as songs by artists including Phoebe Killdeer and the Short Straws, Kasbah Rockers and College & Electric Youth has been released digitally earlier this week. Also opening wide is the stop-motion animated 3D film Frankenweenie directed by Tim Burton and featuring the voices of Catherine O’Hara, Martin Short and Winona Ryder. The film’s score is composed by Danny Elfman. Walt Disney Records has released two soundtracks, including an album featuring the composer’s score. ‘Butter’ Soundtrack Details

Following the announcement of a score album for the satirical comedy Butter earlier this week, Lakeshore Records has published the details of a separate soundtrack album featuring the movie’s songs. Artists featured on the album include Fitz and the Tantrums, Jonsi, Raphael Saadiq, Imani Coppola featuring Tim Myers, Hugo and The Constellations. Also featured is one track from Mateo Messina’s score. The soundtrack will be released on October 9, 2012 and is now available for pre-order on Amazon. Audio clips will be added to this article within the next few weeks. Butter directed by Jim Field Smith and starring Jennifer Garner, Olivia Wilde, Hugh Jackman, Ty Burrell, Yara Shahidi, Alicia Silverstone, Ashley Greene, Rob Corddry and Kristen Schaal will be released in theaters on October 10 by the Weinstein Company’s Radius label and is also currently available on VOD.

‘Butter’ Score Album Announced

Lakeshore Records has announced a soundtrack album for the satirical comedy Butter. The album features the film’s original score composed by Mateo Messina (Juno). The soundtrack will be released digitally on October 2, 2012 and is now available for pre-order on Amazon. Audio clips can be checked out below. Butter is directed by Jim Field Smith (She’s Out of My League) and stars Jennifer Garner, Olivia Wilde, Hugh Jackman, Ty Burrell, Yara Shahidi, Alicia Silverstone, Ashley Greene, Rob Corddry and Kristen Schaal. The movie premiered at last year’s Telluride and Toronto film festivals and will be released in theaters on October 10 by the Weinstein Company’s Radius label.

Mateo Messina to Score ‘A Case of You’

Mateo Messina has signed on to score the indie comedy A Case of You. The film is directed by Kat Coiro and stars Justin Long, Evan Rachel Wood, Vince Vaughn, Peter Dinklage, Sam Rockwell, Sienna Miller, Brendan Fraser, Keir O’Donnell and Busy Phillips. The movie follows a young writer who tries to impress a girl he meets online with an embellished profile, but finds himself in trouble when she falls for him and he has to keep up the act. Long and O’Donnell have written the script with Long’s younger brother Christian and they are also producing the project with Holly Wiersma (Bobby, Bug), Logan Levy and Jessie Kennedy (Stolen).

Mateo Messina to Score ‘Butter’

Mateo Messina has been hired to score the satirical comedy Butter. The film is set in the Midwest U.S., where an adopted girl discovers her talent for butter carving and finds herself pitted against an ambitious local woman in their town’s annual contest. The movie stars Jennifer Garner, Olivia Wilde, Hugh Jackman, Ty Burrell, Yara Shahidi, Alicia Silverstone, Ashley Greene, Rob Corddry and Kristen Schaal. Jim Field Smith (She’s Out of My League) is directing from a script by Jason Micaleff. Garner is also producing alongside Michael DeLuca (The Social Network).
