Dragon’s Domain Records has announced a new soundtrack album featuring two previously unreleased scores composed by Hummie Mann (Robin Hood: Men in Tights, Dracula: Dead and Loving It, Year of the Comet, Thomas and the Magic Railroad). The first title on the album is the composer’s music written for the unreleased “director’s cut” version of the 1999 drama Brokedown Palace directed by Jonathan Kaplan and starring Claire Danes, Kate Beckinsale and Bill Pullman. Island Records has released the official 1999 soundtrack album featuring the songs from the movie and a track from the replacement score by David Newman. Also included is Mann’s score for 1997 HBO original movie The Second Civil War directed by Joe Dante and starring Beau Bridges, Phil Hartman, James Earl Jones, Denis Leary, Elizabeth Peña, Joanna Cassidy, Dan Hedaya, James Coburn and Ron Perlman.

‘The Automat’ Soundtrack to Be Released
MovieScore Media’s Reality Bytes will release a soundtrack album for the documentary The Automat. The album features the film’s original score composed by Hummie Mann (Robin Hood: Men in Tights, Year of the Comet, Dracula: Dead and Loving It, Thomas and the Magic Railroad). Also included is the original song (Nothing Like the Coffee) At the Automat written and performed by Mel Brooks. The soundtrack will be released digitally this Friday, September 23 and is now available for pre-order on Amazon. The Automat is directed by Lisa Hurwitz and tells the story of the iconic restaurant chain Horn & Hardart, which served affordable food to millions of New Yorkers and Philadelphians for more than a century.

Opening in theaters nationwide this week is the horror comedy Studio 666 directed by BJ McDonnell and starring Dave Grohl, Taylor Hawkins, Chris Shiflett, Pat Smear, Nate Mendel, Rami Jaffee, Whitney Cummings, Will Forte, Jenna Ortega, Leslie Grossman and Jeff Garlin. The film’s original score is composed by Roy Mayorga (best known as the drummer of Ministry, Hellyeah and Stone Sour). John Carpenter has written the theme song and Foo Fighters have contributed the original songs for the fictional band Dream Widow. Also opening wide following an awards-qualifying release in December is the movie musical Cyrano directed by Joe Wright and starring Peter Dinklage, Haley Bennett, Kelvin Harrison Jr. and Ben Mendelsohn. The National’s Bryce Dessner (The Two Popes, The Kitchen) & Aaron Dessner (C’mon C’mon, Jockey) have composed the film’s original score and songs. Decca Records has released a soundtrack album featuring the composers’ songs and score last year. Hummie Mann (Robin Hood: Men in Tights, Year of the Comet, Dracula: Dead and Loving It, Thomas and the Magic Railroad) has written the original score for the upcoming documentary The Automat. Mel Brooks (Blazing Saddles, The Producers) has contributed an original song to the movie, which tells the 100-year story of the iconic restaurant chain Horn & Hardart, the inspiration for Starbucks, where generations of Americans ate and drank coffee together at communal tables.
