BAFTA-nominated composer Alex Heffes will release a collection of piano performances of his themes from cinema. The album, entitled Sudden Light, features music from such films as Dear Frankie, Mandela: Long Walk to Freedom, Queen of Katwe, Touching the Void, One Day in September, Emperor, The Elephant Queen, Earth: One Amazing Day, Hope Gap, as well as The 24th, for which he wrote two Ragtime pieces that he expanded for the record with new sections into pieces that stand alone as a homage to that style of music he really like and grew up with. Also included is Sadie’s Theme from the Hulu limited series 11/22/63. The music on the album is performed entirely by Heffes and will be released on May 6, 2022 by Silva Screen Records.

John Debney (The Passion of the Christ, Elf, The Jungle Book, Iron Man 2, Hocus Pocus) has composed the film’s original score. ‘The Arctic: Our Last Great Wilderness’ Soundtrack Released
Lakeshore Records has released a soundtrack album for the giant screen documentary The Arctic: Our Last Great Wilderness. The album features the film’s original music composed by Alex Heffes (The Last King of Scotland, Touching the Void, Queen of Katwe, Roots, State of Play, Mandela: Long Walk to Freedom). The soundtrack is now available to stream/download on Amazon (and any other major digital music stores), where you can also check out audio samples. The Arctic: Our Last Great Wilderness directed by Florian Schulz & Myles Connolly is the first-ever cinematic account of the Arctic National Wildlife refuge, situated in the northeastern corner of Alaska. The movie follows Schulz as he tracks the Porcupine Caribou herd on the longest animal migration on Earth, and witnesses pregnant female polar bears denning along the coastal plain.
Alex Heffes Scoring Adam Salky’s Netflix Film ‘Intrusion’
Alex Heffes (The Last King of Scotland, Queen of Katwe, Touching the Void, Mandela: Long Walk to Freedom, 11.22.63, State of Play) has composed the original music for the new Netflix original film Intrusion. The movie is directed by Adam Salky (I Smile Back, Dare) and stars Freida Pinto, Logan Marshall-Green, Robert John Burke, Megan Elisabeth Kelly, Sarah Minnich, Mark Sivertsen, Hayes Hargrove, Brandon Fierro, Antonio Valles and Clint Obenchain. The psychological thriller revolves around a couple who move to a new town, where a deadly home iinvasion leaves the wife traumatized and suspicious that those around her might not be who they seem.

‘Hope Gap’ Soundtrack EP Announced
Air-Edel Records has announced a soundtrack EP for the British drama Hope Gap. The 6-track EP features the film’s original music composed by Golden Globe nominee Alex Heffes (Mandela: Long Walk to Freedom, The Last King of Scotland, Queen of Katwe, Roots, Touching the Void, 11.21.63) ). The soundtrack will be released digitally this Friday, November 6 and will be available to stream/download on Amazon and other digital music stores. Hope Gap is written and directed by William Nicholson and stars Annette Bening, Bill Nighy and Josh O’Connor. The movie charts the life of a woman shocked to learn her husband is leaving her for another after 29 years of marriage, and the ensuing emotional fallout the dissolution has on their only grown son.
‘A Suitable Boy’ Soundtrack to Be Released
Silva Screen Records will release a soundtrack album for the BBC and Netflix limited series A Suitable Boy. The album features the show’s original music composed by Golden Globe nominee Alex Heffes (The Last King of Scotland, Queen of Katwe, Mandela: Long Walk to Freedom, 11.22.63, Touching the Void) and Anoushka Shankar. Also included are songs performed by Kavita Seth and other music from the drama. The soundtrack will be released overseas digitally tomorrow, October 23. A CD version is also in the works. The 6-parter is based on Vikram Seth’s 1993 novel of the same name and centers on a young woman in post-partition India who struggles to balance family duty and personal independence.

Director Mira Nair has revealed on Twitter that Alex Heffes (The Last King of Scotland, Mandela: Long Walk to Freedom, Roots, 11.22.63, Touching the Void) and Anoushka Shankar are currently scoring the upcoming BBC series A Suitable Boy. The show is developed by Andrew Davies (Bridget Jones’ Diary, War & Peace, Les Misérables) based on Vikram Seth’s classic novel of the same title and stars Tabu, Tanya Maniktala and Ishaan Khatter. The 6-parter is directed by Mira Nair (Monsoon Wedding, Vanity Fair, The Namesake) tells the story of a spirited university student who is coming of age in North India in 1951 at the same time as the country is carving out its own identity as an independent nation.
