Alberto Iglesias is reteaming with Pedro Almadovar on the upcoming Spanish drama Pain & Glory (Dolor y gloria). The film is written and directed by Almodovar and stars Antonio Banderas, Asier Etxeandía, Leonardo Sbaraglia, Nora Navas, Julieta Serrano, César Vicente and Asier Flores. Penélope Cruz is also making an appearance. The movie revolves around a film director as he looks back on the choices he’s made in life as his past catches up with him to upend the present. Agustin Almodovar (Wild Tales) is producing the project.

‘The Summit’ (‘La Cordillera’) Soundtrack Announced
Quartet Records has announced a soundtrack album for the political thriller The Summit (La Cordillera). The album features the film’s original music composed by Academy Award nominee Alberto Iglesias (The Constant Gardener, Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy, The Kite Runner, Volver). The soundtrack is now available to order on the label’s official website, where you can also listen to audio samples. A digital version is set to come out on September 29 and can be pre-ordered on Amazon. The Summit is directed by Santiago Mitre and stars Ricardo Darin, Dolores Fonzi, Erica Rivas, Paulina Garcia, Alfredo Castro, Elena Anaya, Gerardo Romano and Daniel Gimenez Cacho. The movie revolves around the president of Argentina whose darkest past threatens to catch up with him at a three-day conference, forcing him to choose between his career and family.
Alberto Iglesias to Score Iciar Bollain’s ‘Yuli’
Alberto Iglesias has signed on to score the upcoming biographical drama Yuli. The movie directed by Iciar Bollain (Even the Rain, Take My Eyes) tells the story of Cuban ballet superstar Carlos Acosta’s rise from the streets of Havana to the heights of classical ballet, becoming the first black principal guest dancer at the Royal Ballet in London. Paul Laverty (I, Daniel Blake, The Wind That Shakes the Barley) wrote the screenplay based on Acosta’s autobiography No Way Home. The project is produced by BBC Films, Potboiler Productions and Spain’s Morena Films.
Alberto Iglesias to Score Carlos Vermut’s ‘Quién te cantará’
Alberto Iglesias is set to compose the music for the upcoming Spanish/French drama Quién te cantará. The film is directed by Carlos Vermut (Magical Girl, Diamond Flash) and stars Najwa Nimri, Carme Elías and Eva Llorach. The movie centers on a world-famous singer who loses her memory in an accident. Her number one fan helps her to remember who she was. Enrique López Lavigne (The Impossible, 28 Weeks Later, Open Windows, Intruders) is producing the project for Apache Films. The composer has previously scored the López Lavigne-produced 2001 feature Sex and Lucia.

The soundtrack will be released on September 26, 2016 and is now available for pre-order on Quartet’s official website, where you can also check out audio samples. Spain in a Day directed by Isabel Coixet (Learning to Drive, Elegy, The Secret Life of Words) is based on Ridley Scott’s Life in a Day and is collective project using social media that sees everyday Spaniards contribute short clips from their lives all shot on the same day, October 24, 2015.

Three new movies are opening nationwide this weekend:
Opening in most theaters is the animated feature The Angry Birds Movie directed by Fergal Reilly & Clay Kaytis and starring Jason Sudeikis, Josh Gad, Danny McBride, Maya Rudolph, Bill Hader, Peter Dinklage, Kate McKinnon and Keegan-Michael Key. The film’s original music is composed by Heitor Pereira (Despicable Me, Minions, The Smurfs). Atlantic Records has released a soundtrack album featuring the songs from the film, as well as a separate soundtrack featuring Pereira’s score. Also opening wide is the comedy sequel Neighbors 2: Sorority Rising directed by Nicholas Stoller and starring Seth Rogen, Zac Efron, Rose Byrne, Chloë Grace Moretz, Dave Franco, Ike Barinholtz, Carla Gallo, Christopher Mintz-Plasse, Kiersey Clemons and Beanie Feldstein. Michael Andrews (Bridesmaids, Donnie Darko, Bad Teacher, Funny People) who previously scored the 2014 original film has composed the film’s original score. Alberto Iglesias to Score Terry Gilliam’s ‘The Man Who Killed Don Quixote’
It was announced today that Alberto Iglesias is set to compose the music for Terry Gilliam’s upcoming film adaptation of The Man Who Killed Don Quixote. The film starring Adam Driver, Michael Palin and Olga Kurylenko follows a jaded young advertising executive who returns to the Spanish village where he made a film based on Cervantes’ masterpiece years earlier and meets a villager who believes himself to be Don Quixote as he gets swept up in a fantastic extravaganza complete with damsels in distress, knights and giants. Gilliam (Brazil, The Fisher King, The Brothers Grimm) has also co-written the screenplay with Tony Grisoni (Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas, Tideland). Paolo Branco (Cosmopolis) is producing the project.

Quartet Records will release a soundtrack album for Pedro Almodovar’s comedy drama Julieta. The album features the film’s original music composed by Academy Award nominee Alberto Iglesias (The Constant Gardener, The Kite Runner, Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy) who previously collaborated with the director on such films as Volver, The Skin I Live In, Talk to Her and Bad Education. The soundtrack will be released on April 8, 2016 and is now available for pre-order on Amazon, where you can also listen to audio samples. Julieta is written and directed by Almodovar and stars Adriana Ugarte, Emma Suárez, Daniel Grao, Dario Grandinetti, Rossy de Palma, Inma Cuesta, Nathalie Poza and Pilar Castro. The movie spans 30 years in a woman’s life from a nostalgic 1985 when everything seems much better to 2015, when everything seems beyond repair and she is on the verge of madness.
