Three new movies are opening in wide release this weekend:

Opening in most theaters is the horror thriller Don’t Be Afraid of the Dark directed by Troy Nixey, produced by Guillermo Del Toro and starring Katie Holmes, Guy Pearce and Bailee Madison. The film’s music is composed by Marco Beltrami and Buck Sanders. A soundtrack album featuring the score has been released digitally earlier this week and will be coming out on CD on September 27 on Lakeshore Records. Also opening wide is the indie comedy Our Idiot Brother directed by Jesse Peretz and starring Paul Rudd, Elizabeth Banks, Zooey Deschanel, Emily Mortimer, Steve Coogan, Hugh Dancy, Rashida Jones and Shirley Knight. Nathan Larson and Eric D. Johnson composed the movie’s score. Abkco Records has released a soundtrack album including selections of the score, as well as several songs from the movie. ‘Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy’ Soundtrack Details

Silva Screen Records has announced the details of the soundtrack release for the thriller Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy. The album includes the original score by Alberto Iglesias (The Kite Runner, The Constant Gardener). The soundtrack will be released digitally in the UK on August 29, 2011 and on CD on September 19. The complete album can currently be streamed for free on Silva Screen’s official soundtrack website. Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy is directed by Tomas Alfredson and stars Gary Oldman, Colin Firth, Tom Hardy, Mark Strong, Ciaran Hinds, Stephen Graham and Benedict Cumberbatch.

Sean Callery to Score FOX’s ‘The Finder’ and Showtime’s ‘Homeland’

Sean Callery is set to score the upcoming FOX procedural The Finder. The show is a spin-off of the hit series Bones and is created by Hart Hanson (Bones). The show is set in Key West and centers on man who uses his unique gift to help others recover what they’ve lost. Geoff Stults (She’s Out of My League), Michael Clarke Duncan (The Green Mile) who first appeared in the sixth season of Bones are playing the main characters on the drama. Hanson is executive producing with Dan Sackheim (Lie to Me) and Barry Josephson (Bones). Callery has been scoring Bones since its fourth season in 2008 and will also return the show’s seventh season this fall.

‘The Debt’ Soundtrack by Thomas Newman announced

Relativity Music Group has announced a score release for the thriller The Debt. The album includes almost 50 minutes of the original score from the film by Thomas Newman. The soundtrack will be released digitally on August 30, 2011. Check out audio clips from all tracks on the album after the jump and visit Amazon to download the score. The Debt is directed by John Madden and stars Helen Mirren, Sam Worthington and Tom Wilkinson. In the film, three Israeli Mossad agents are tracking down a Nazi war criminal over 30 years. Focus Features will release the movie nationwide on August 31.

Ilan Eshkeri Scoring ‘Ashes’

Ilan Eshkeri is scoring the upcoming thriller Ashes. The movie stars Jim Sturgess, Ray Winstone, Lesley Manville (Another Year), Luke Evans (Robin Hood) and Jodie Whittaker (Attack the Block). The film is directed by Mat Whitecross (The Road to Guantanamo) who also co-wrote the screenplay with Paul Viragh (Sex & Drugs & Rock & Roll). Esther Douglas and Fiona Neilson are producing. Coldplay’s Guy Berryman, Jonny Buckland, Will Champion and Chris Martin are executive producers on the project. No plot details have been revealed yet, but the movie has been described as a contemporary film noir.

‘Primeval’ Soundtrack announced

Movie Score Media has announced a soundtrack release for the British dinosaur adventure series Primeval. The album features 75 minutes of the original score composed by Dominik Scherrer (Miss Marple, Scenes of a Sexual Nature) from the first three seasons of the show. The soundtrack is scheduled for a release on September 20, 2011 and will be available digitally and on CD. Primeval created by Adrian Hodges and Tim Haines tells the story about an evolutionary zoologist who discovers prehistoric creatures alive and well in the present day.

Theodore Shapiro to Score ‘Great Hope Springs’

Theodore Shapiro has signed on to score next year’s drama Great Hope Springs. The movie starring Meryl Streep, Steve Carell, Tommy Lee Jones centers on a middle-aged couple who attend an intense counseling weekend to examine the intimacy issues threatening their marriage. The film is directed by David Frankel who has worked with Shapiro several times before. Their previous collaborations include The Devil Wears Prada, Marley & Me and the upcoming dramedy The Big Year. Great Hope Springs is produced by Todd Black (The Pursuit of Happyness, Knowing) and Guymon Casady (The Expendables).

Louis Febre to Score ABC’s ‘Charlie’s Angels’

Louis Febre has been hired to score ABC’s Miami-set TV reboot of Charlie’s Angels. The new Angels are played by Minka Kelly (Friday Night Lights), Rachael Taylor (Grey’s Anatomy) and Annie Ilonzeh (Melrose Place). Ramon Rodriguez is co-starring as Bosley. Alfred Gough and Miles Millar wrote the pilot and are executive producing. Marcos Siega (The Vampire Diaries) directed the pilot and Drew Barrymore, Leonard Goldberg and Nancy Jovoven, who were all involved in the two Charlie’s Angels feature adaptations directed by McG, are producing the project. Febre previously scored the last four seasons of the CW hit show Smallville, which was created by Charlie’s Angels showrunners Millar and Gough.

Conrad Pope to Score ‘My Week with Marilyn’

UPDATE (August 23, 2011): We have learned that composer Alexandre Desplat has written a theme for My Week with Marilyn. The piece called Marilyn’s Theme will be adapted by Conrad Pope into his score. Pope has been an orchestrator on a number of movies scored by Desplat in the past couple of years. Most recently, he worked with the composer on Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2.

Conrad Pope is currently scoring the upcoming drama My Week with Marilyn. The movie directed by Simon Curtis stars Michelle Williams, Kenneth Branagh, Eddie Redmayne, Judi Dench, Dominic Cooper, Emma Watson, Julia Ormond, Derek Jacobi and Dougray Scott. The film chronicles a week in the life of Monroe during the production of Laurence Olivier’s film The Prince and the Showgirl. Screenwriter Adrian Hodges adapted the memoirs of Colin Clark, the assistant who worked with Monroe on the production of the picture. David Pardiff (Shakespeare in Love) is producing the movie. While Pope is best known as an orchestrator for some of Hollywood’s top composers (John Williams, Alexandre Desplat, James Newton Howard, Alan Silvestri), he has also scored several movies himself, including the 2001 drama Pavilion of Women starring Willem Dafoe and 2009’s In My Sleep.

John Barry’s ‘The Black Hole’ Soundtrack released

Intrada Records has announced the premiere CD release of the score for Disney’s 1979 sci-fi adventure The Black Hole. The music is composed by John Barry. The album includes the complete score from the film, including over 20 minutes of never-before released material. Highlight selections of the score have previously only been released on LP. The Black Hole is directed by Gary Nelson and stars Maximilian Schell, Anthony Perkins and Robert Forster. The movie about a research vessel that finds a missing on the edge of a black hole received two Academy Award nominations for Cinematography and Visual Effects.
