Three new movies are opening wide this Labor Day weekend:

Opening in almost 3000 theaters is the horror thriller Shark Night 3D directed by David R. Ellis and starring Sara Paxton, Dustin Milligan, Katharine McPhee, Donal Logue, Chris Carmack, Alyssa Diaz and Joel David Moore. The movie’s score is written by Graeme Revell. A soundtrack album featuring Revell’s music has been released earlier this week by Cutting Edge. Already in theater since Wednesday is the political thriller The Debt directed by John Madden and starring Helen Mirren, Sam Worthington and Tom Wilkinson. The composer of the film is Thomas Newman. Relativity Music Group has released a soundtrack album including Newman’s score digitally earlier this week. The full details and audio clips can be checked out in our previous article. Silva Screen Records will also be releasing a physical CD of the soundtrack overseas.

‘The Debt’ Soundtrack by Thomas Newman announced

Relativity Music Group has announced a score release for the thriller The Debt. The album includes almost 50 minutes of the original score from the film by Thomas Newman. The soundtrack will be released digitally on August 30, 2011. Check out audio clips from all tracks on the album after the jump and visit Amazon to download the score. The Debt is directed by John Madden and stars Helen Mirren, Sam Worthington and Tom Wilkinson. In the film, three Israeli Mossad agents are tracking down a Nazi war criminal over 30 years. Focus Features will release the movie nationwide on August 31.

BREAKING NEWS: Thomas Newman Scoring ‘The Help’

Film Music Reporter has learned that Thomas Newman is currently writing the score for the upcoming drama The Help. The movie is based on the best-selling novel by Kathryn Stockett about the conflicted and complex relationships between Southern women and their housekeepers at the beginning of the civil rights movement. In the film, an aspiring writer in 1960s Mississippi sets out to write a book chronicling the way black maids are being treated by society. The movie stars Emma Stone, Allison Janney, Sissy Spacek, Viola Davis, Bryce Dallas Howard, Mike Vogel and Cicely Tyson. The Help is directed by Tate Taylor who made his directorial feature debut on 2008’s Pretty Ugly People. The project marks the director’s first studio picture.

Newman slated to score The Adjustment Bureau

Thomas Newman will score the upcoming Sci-Fi romance The Adjustment Bureau. The movie stars Matt Damon, Emily Blunt and Terence Stamp and marks the directing debut for screenwriter George Nolfi (The Sentinel, The Bourne Ultimatum). The film’s story centers around David Norris, a charismatic congressman who meets a beautiful ballet dancer named Elise Sellas, only to find strange circumstances keeping them from getting closer. The movie is based on the short story Adjustment Team by Philip K. Dick (Total Recall, Minority Report, Paycheck).
