WaterTower Music has announced a soundtrack release for the upcoming comic book adaptation of Green Lantern. The album includes James Newton Howard’s original score from the movie. The soundtrack will be released on May 24, 2011 and more details, including cover art and track list will be published in the next couple of weeks. Check back on this page for updates. James Newton Howard’s score was recorded earlier this month in Los Angeles with a 104-piece orchestra. Green Lantern is directed by Martin Campbell and stars Ryan Reynolds, Blake Lively, Peter Saarsgard and Mark Strong. Warner Bros is set to release the movie on June 17. Read the rest of this entry »

Joseph LoDuca to Score ‘Soldiers of Fortune’

Joseph LoDuca has signed on to score the upcoming action adventure film Soldiers of Fortune. The film is directed by Maksim Korostyshevsky and stars Sean Bean, Christian Slater, Dominic Monaghan, Ving Rhames, James Cromwell, Freddy Rodriguez and Colm Meaney. In the movie, a group of wealthy thrill-seekers pay huge premiums to have themselves inserted into military adventures, only this time things don’t go exactly to plan. ‘The Hangover Part II’ Soundtrack Details

WaterTower Music has revealed the details for the soundtrack release of the comedy sequel The Hangover Part II. The album includes 12 songs from the movie. Artists featured on the soundtrack include Wolfmother, Danzig, Billy Joel, and Curtis Mayfield. Also included are several on-screen performances from the film, including the Thai wedding band, Ska Rangers, covering I Ran and Just The Way You Are, Mike Tyson singing One Night in Bangkok, as well as the song Allentown, performed by Ed Helms’ character. None of Christophe Beck’s original score is featured on the album. The score for the first part was released closer to the film’s home video release, which makes a separate score album to come out later seem possible. Nick Urata to Score ‘Grassroots’

Nick Urata has been tapped to write the music for the upcoming political comedy Grassroots. The film is directed by Stephen Gyllenhaal (Homegrown, Losing Isaiah) and stars Jason Biggs (American Pie), Joel David Moore (Avatar), Cobie Smulders (How I Met Your Mother), Lauren Ambrose (Six Feet Under), Christopher McDonald (Requiem for a Dream), Tom Arnold and Cedric the Entertainer. The movie centers on a journalist, who, after losing his job, reluctantly agrees to help his oddball friend with his bid to earn a seat on the Seattle City Council. Chris Bacon to Score ‘Wonder Woman’ Pilot

Chris Bacon has been hired to score the NBC pilot Wonder Woman. The project is a reimagining of the iconic D.C. comic created by William Moulton Marston and tells the story of Diana Prince, who tries to balance her life as a vigilante crime fighter, a successful corporate executive and a modern woman. Adrienne Palicki (Friday Night Lights) has been chosen for the title role. Cary Elwes (The Princess Bride, Saw), Elizabeth Hurley (Austin Powers), Tracie Thomas (Cold Case) and Pedro Pascal (The Good Wife) are co-starring in the pilot. The project is produced and written by David E. Kelley and the pilot is directed by Jeffrey Reiner (Friday Night Lights, The Event). Kelley has a history of hiring top film composers on his shows, including Thomas Newman who wrote the opening theme for Boston Public and Mark Isham who wrote two different main titles for Chicago Hope, as well as Marco Beltrami and Christophe Beck who both scored different seasons of his Emmy-winning hit show The Practice. Four new movies are opening wide this weekend:

Expecting to enjoy the biggest box office debut of the year so far is the action sequel Fast Five. The film’s music is composed by Brian Tyler. Check out our news entry from yesterday for a video interview with Tyler and recording sessions footage from the project. A score album will be released next Tuesday by Varese Sarabande and is already available on iTunes and a song album with three score cues is coming out on ABCKO Records.

Also opening wide is the teen comedy Prom directed by Joe Nussbaum. The film’s score is by Deborah Lurie. As reported earlier this month, a soundtrack with songs from the movie has been released by Hollywood Records, but none of Lurie’s original score is included. Read the rest of this entry »

Film Music Reporter has learned that Alexandre Desplat has signed on to score the drama The Ides of March. George Clooney directs and stars in the film about a young press spokesman, played by Ryan Gosling, who falls prey to backroom politics, the treacherous manipulations of veteran operatives and the seduction of a young intern. The movie is an adaptation of the Broadway play Farragut North and co-stars Philip Seymour Hoffman, Paul Giamatti, Evan Rachel Wood, Marisa Tomei, Max Minghella and Jeffrey Wright. Clooney adapted the play for the screen with Grant Heslov who previously co-wrote the director’s Academy-Award-nominated drama Good Night, and Good Luck.  Read the rest of this entry »

Reelz Channel uploaded a new video feature today on Brian Tyler’s music for Fast Five. The composer is interviewed about his score on the action sequel and the video also offers footage from the recording sessions of the score. Tyler also recently uploaded a video from the orchestra and drumming recording of the track Fast Five from the score soundtrack album, which will be released by Varese Sarabande Records on May 3, 2011. William Ross Scoring ‘Touchback’

William Ross recently recorded his score for the upcoming football drama Touchback. The film stars Kurt Russell, Brian Presley, Melanie Lynsky, Christine Lahti and Marc Blucas. According to Variety, the movie written and directed by Don Handfield centers on a man whose promising high school football career was cut short when he was critically injured during a playoff game. He gets the chance to decide if he wants the life he has, or the life that could have been, when he’s unexpectedly thrust back to that fateful instant that changed his life forever.
