Black Records has released a soundtrack album for the BBC drama United. The album includes Clint Mansell’s original score from the TV movie. To listen to audio clips and download the soundtrack, visit iTunes. United is directed by James Strong and stars David Tennant, Sam Claflin, Jack O’Donnell and Dougray Scott. The film is based on the true story of soccer team Manchester United’s legendary “Busby Babes”, the youngest side ever to win the Football League and the 1958 Munich air crash that claimed eight of the their number. Bennett Salvay is currently scoring the thriller Carjacked (aka Jacked). The film centers on a single mother who helps her son escape from a carjacking and must free herself when the villain drives her vehicle into a lake. Mario Bello and Stephen Dorff are starring in the thriller. Carjacked is directed by John Bonito who previously directed the John Cena-toplined action movie The Marine with music by Don Davis. Anchor Bay has picked up domestic rights for the film and a release date later this year is expected. Read the rest of this entry »

Three new movies are opening wide this Easter weekend:

The period drama Water for Elephants directed by Francis Lawrence and starring Robert Pattinson, Reese Witherspoon, Christoph Waltz and Hal Holbrook features music by James Newton Howard. A soundtrack album including the original score, as well as a couple of songs from the film has been released by Sony Masterworks. Also opening wide is Tyler Perry’s comedy Madea’s Big Happy Family starring Perry himself, as well as Loretta Devine and Bow Wow. The film’s score is by Aaron Zigman as announced earlier this year. Jeff Danna has signed on to write the music for the mystery thriller The Tall Man. The film is the English-language feature debut of writer/director Pascal Laugier (Martyrs, House of Voices) and stars Jessica Biel as a nurse living in a small town where children have gone missing over the years. When her own child goes missing, a desperate chase begins, leading her to confront the secret of the identity of the Tall Man and what happens to the children. The movie co-stars Jodelle Ferland (Eclipse), Stephen McHattie (Watchmen, 300) and William B. Davis (The X-Files). Read the rest of this entry »

Lakeshore Records has announced a soundtrack release for the documentary These Amazing Shadows. The album includes the original score by Peter Golub (The Great Debaters, Frozen River, Countdown to Zero). The music was recorded with the City of Prague Philharmonic Orchestra last fall. The soundtrack will be released digitally on May 12, 2011. To listen to a few tracks from the score, visit Peter Golub’s official website and watch the film’s end credits sequence below. These Amazing Shadows is directed by Paul Mariano and Kurt Norton and tells the history and importance of The National Film Registry, a roll call of American cinema treasures that reflects the diversity of film. Victor Reyes is set to score the upcoming psychological thriller Red Lights. The project reunites the composer with director Rodrigo Cortéz who has worked with Reyes multiple times, most recently on their international breakthrough film Buried starring Ryan Reynolds, which was released last year. Red Lights stars Robert De Niro,  Cillian Murphy, Sigourney Weaver, Joely Richardson, Toby Jones and Elizabeth Olsen. The movie centers on a psychologist and her assistant whose study of paranormal activity leads them to investigate a world-renowned psychic. The thriller has already sold to many international territories, while a domestic distribution deal has yet to be announced. Read the rest of this entry »

Julian Nott has recently completed scoring the upcoming British romantic comedy drama The Decoy Bride. The film is directed by Shereen Folkson and stars Alice Eve, David Tennant, Kelly Macdonald, Michael Urie and Federico Castelluccio. The film’s story follows the wedding of a film star and Brit author, who decide to escape to a remote island to marry but become entangled in a love mix-up. The Decoy Bride is written by Neil Jaworkski and comedienne Sally Philips. The movie marks the first theatrical feature film assignment in several years for Julian Nott who is best known as the composer of the Oscar-winning Wallace & Gromit short films, as well as the 2005 feature film version of the series. No word yet on a release date for the movie, but a release in the UK later this year is expected.

David Arnold is the recipient of the Richard Kirk Award for career achievment at this year’s BMI Film & Television Awards. The Grammy-winning composer (Independence Day) has previously received 10 BMI film music awards. Arnold is best known as the composer of the last five James Bond movies, as well as for his music for Roland Emmerich’s Stargate, Independence Day and Godzilla. The composer has also worked multiple times with directors John Singleton (Shaft, 2 Fast 2 Furious), Michael Apted (Enough, Amazing Grace) and Roger Michell (Changing Lanes) and is coming off of a busy year, in which he scored four feature films (The Chronicles of Narnia: The Voyage of the Dawn Treader, Morning Glory, Made in Dagenham and Paul). Film Music Reporter has received the track list of the soundtrack for the adventure sequel Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides. The album features 11 tracks of the original score by Hans Zimmer and Rodrigo y Gabriela, as well as a number of remixes by electronic music artists Photek, Static Avenger, Ki:Theory and Adam Freeland. Also credited on the album is Eric Whitacre (who joined the music team as reported here) and composer Geoff Zanelli. There have also been two new cover arts circulating online (check out our previous article for the original one and see below for the other alternate cover). Linkin Park announced on their official website (via ComingSoon.net) that they have once again teamed up with composer Steve Jablonsky for the music of the upcoming Transformers: Dark of the Moon. The band’s new single Iridescent will be featured as the end credits song in the sequel. The track is a fresh take of the song, which originally appeared on Linkin Park’s current album A Thousand Suns. The band previously contributed the songs What I’ve Done and New Divide for the previous Transformers movies, with the latter also being included in Steve Jablonsky’s score for Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen. Linkin Park also published a new video about the film’s music, which you can watch after the jump.
