Kevin Kiner is scoring the AMC western series Hell on Wheels. The show created by Joe and Tony Gayton (Faster) is set in 1865 and centers on a former Confederate soldier, who is determined to exact revenge on the Union soldiers who murdered his wife. The series stars Anson Mount, Common, Dominique McElligott, Colm Meaney, Ben Esler, Philip Burke and Eddie Spears. Kiner is best known for scoring the long running CBS crime drama CSI: Miami, as well as the animated series Star Wars: The Clone Wars and its feature film version. Mark Mothersbaugh to Score ’21 Jump Street’

Mark Mothersbaugh is currently scoring the action comedy 21 Jump Street. The film based on the 80s TV series starring Johnny Depp is directed by Phil Lord and Chris Miller who previously collaborated with the composer on the 2009 animated hit film Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs. 21 Jump Street stars Jonah Hill, Channing Tatum, Ice Cube, Brie Larson and Ellie Kemper. The film revolves around two undercover police officers who go undercover in a high school in order to bust a drug ring. Jonah Hill co-wrote the project’s screenplay with Michael Bacall (Scott Pilgrim vs. The World). The movie is produced by Neal Moritz (The Fast and the Furious, I Am Legend and Stephen J. Two new movies are opening in wide release this weekend:
Expected to top the weekend box office is the caper comedy Tower Heist directed by Brett Ratner and starring Ben Stiller, Eddie Murphy, Casey Affleck, Matthew Broderick, Tea Leoni, Michael Pena, Alan Alda, Gabourey Sidibe, Judd Hirsch and Nina Arianda. The film’s score is composed by Christophe Beck. Varese Sarabande has released a soundtrack album featuring the composer’s score this past Tuesday. Also opening wide is the comedy sequel A Very Harold & Kumar 3D Christmas directed by Todd Strauss-Schulson and starring Kal Penn, John Cho, Neil Patrick Harris, Patton Oswalt and Tom Lennon. William Ross has written the sccore for the movie. A score album will be released on November 15 by Varese Sarabande (click here for the full details). Alan Silvestri Confirmed to Score ‘The Avengers’

Film Music Reporter has received official confirmation that Alan Silvestri has signed on to score the highly anticipated comic book adaptation of The Avengers. While Silvestri’s involvement in the Marvel Studios production has been rumored in the last few months, no official announcement has been made before. The title has also just been added to the composer’s credit list on his official website. The Avengers is written and directed by Joss Whedon and stars Robert Downey, Jr. as Tony Stark/Iron Man, Chris Hemsworth as Thor, Chris Evans as Captain America, Jeremy Renner as Hawkeye, Mark Ruffalo as Hulk, Scarlett Johansson as Black Widow, Clark Gregg as Agent Phil Coulson, and Samuel L. ‘We Bought a Zoo’ Soundtrack Announced

Pitchfork (via The Playlist) has revealed the soundtrack details for Cameron Crowe’s comedy drama We Bought a Zoo. The album features the original music from the movie by Sigur Rós frontman Jónsi who makes his studio feature scoring debut on the project. Also included on the soundtrack are reworked versions of songs from the musician’s 2010 solo album, along with Sigur Rós’s Hoppipolla. Jónsi collaborated with Russell Crowe on one of the tracks and composer Nico Muhly is providing the orchestral arrangements. The soundtrack will be released on December 13, 2011 by Columbia Records and is available for pre-order on Amazon. Check back on this site for audio clips from all tracks on the album. ‘Arthur Christmas’ Soundtrack Details

The details of the soundtrack album for Aardman’s and Sony Pictures Animation’s Arthur Christmas have been revealed. The album features the original score from the movie by Harry Gregson-Williams who previously scored Aardman’s Chicken Run (with John Powell) and Flushed Away. Madison Gate Records will be releasing the album in the US on November 22, 2011, both digitally and as an on demand CD-R on Amazon. Sony Classical is handling the release overseas. Audio clips of all tracks on the album can be checked out on Amazon.co.uk. Alexandre Azaria to Score ‘Lockout’

Alexandre Azaria has been tapped to score the upcoming sci-fi adventure Lockout. The movie is directed by James Mather & Stephen St. Leger and stars Guy Pearce, Maggie Grace, Peter Stormare and Tom Hollander. The film centers on a falsely convicted ex-government agent whose only chance of freedom is to accept a mission to rescue the president’s daughter from rioting prisoners at an outer space maximum security prison. Luc Besson co-wrote the script with the directors and also serves as an executive producer on the EuropaCorp production. Azaria has previously scored the production company’s two The Transporter sequels, which were also produced by Besson. FilmDistrict has picked up domestic rights for Lockout and is planning a theatrical release on April 13, 2012.

Dario Marianelli to Reunite with Joe Wright on ‘Anna Karenina’

Dario Marianelli is set to reunite with Joe Wright on the director’s upcoming movie adaptation of Leo Tolstoy’s classic novel Anna Karenina. The movie stars Keira Knightley in the title role, Jude Law as her husband Aleksei Karenin and Aaron Johnson as Count Vronsky. Kelly Macdonald, Emily Watson, Matthew Macfayden, Olivia Williams, Domhnall Gleeson, Alice Vikander and Ruth Wilson are co-starring in the film. Tom Stoppard (Shakespeare in Love, Empire of the Sun) adapted Tolstoy’s novel for the screen and Tim Bevan & Eric Fellner (Love Actually, Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy) and Richard Webster (Atonement, Eastern Promises) are producing the Working Title Films production. Marianelli and Wright have previously collaborated on Pride and Prejudice, The Soloist and Atonement, the latter of which earned the composer his first Academy Award. Joseph LoDuca is scoring the upcoming action comedy Freaky Deaky. The film directed by Charles Matthau is based on the novel by Elmore Leonard (Jackie Brown, Out of Sight). The movie starring Billy Burke, Christian Slater, Crispin Glover, Michael Jai White, Breanne Racano and Roger Bart centers on a LAPD bomb squad officer who stumbles upon a plot by two former hippie activists who plan to use their bomb-making skills to trick an alcoholic movie mogul into handing over millions of dollars.
