Klaus Badelt has a number of movies coming out in 2011. Already recorded is the score for the horror comedy Dylan Dog: Dead of Night. The film based on the comic book series Dylan Dog centers around supernatural private eye, Dylan Dog, who seeks out the monsters of the Louisiana bayou in his signature red shirt, black jacket, and blue jeans. The film is directed by Kevin Munroe, who previously worked with Badelt on the 2007 animated film TMNT (Teenage Ninja Mutant Turtles). The movie stars Brandon Routh, Sam Huntington, Peter Stormare and Taye Diggs. No domestic release date has been announced, but the movie is scheduled to open in March in Italy (click here to watch the Italian movie trailer). Randy Newman has won the Grammy Award for Toy Story 3 in the Best Score Soundtrack Album category at today’s award ceremony, beating out Danny Elfman for Alice in Wonderland, James Horner for Avatar and Hans Zimmer for Inception and Sherlock Holmes.

The winner in the Best Compilation Soundtrack Album category is Crazy Heart, produced by Stephen Bruton and T Bone Burnett. In the Best Song for Motion Picture, Television or Other Visual Media, the award went to The Weary Kind from Crazy Heart, co-written by Stephen Bruton and T Bone Burnett.

Alexandre Desplat has won the Orange British Academy Film Award (BAFTA) in the Original Music category for his score for The King’s Speech. The award was presented to him by singer/songwriter Paul McCartney. Desplat’s competitors in the category were A.R. Rahman for 127 Hours, Danny Elfman for Alice in Wonderland, John Powell for How to Train Your Dragon and Hans Zimmer for Inception. The award marks Desplat’s first BAFTA after being nominated before for Girl with a Pearl Earring, The Queen, The Curious Case of Benjamin Button and The Fantastic Mr. Fox. Varese Sarabande Records has announced a soundtrack release for the French drama La ligne droite. The film’s music is written by composer Patrick Doyle and 21 tracks of his score will be featured on the album. The soundtrack album will be released on March 8, 2011. It will only be released as a physical CD in Europe, but the album will be available in the US on iTunes. La ligne droite is directed by Regis Wargnier, a long time collaborator of Doyle, who has directed such movies as Indochine, Une femme francaise, Est-Ouest and Man to Man. Elia Cmiral scoring ‘Atlas Shrugged’

Elia Cmiral recently recorded his score for the upcoming bestseller adaptation Atlas Shrugged: Part 1. In the movie based on the 1957 novel by Ayn Rand, a powerful railroad executive struggles to keep her business alive while society is crumbling around her. The film directed by Paul Johansson stars Taylor Schilling, Edi Gathegi and Matthew Marsden. According to Elia Cmiral’s official webpage, the score was recorded with a large orchestra. There have been many attempts to bring the novel to the screen for the past decades, including a recent version which had director Vadim Perelman and composer James Horner attached to the project. Varese Sarabande Records has announced the details for the upcoming soundtrack release for the second season of the TV Show Pushing Daisies. The album features highlights from Jim Dooley’s score of the second season of the critically acclaimed show. The soundtrack will be released on April 5, 2011. Four new movies are opening in wide release today:

Just Go With It directed by Dennis Dugan and starring Adam Sandler, Jennifer Aniston and Nicole Kidman features a score by Rupert Gregson-Williams. No soundtrack album has been announced and judging from the release status of Gregson-Williams’ previous work for Adam Sandler/Happy Madison-produced films (with the exception of Bedtime Stories), the score will most likely remain unreleased.

Also opening wide is the animation musical Gnomeo & Juliet, which features songs by Elton John and a score by James Newton Howard and Chris Bacon. As reported last December, a soundtrack album including Elton John’s songs and four cues from the original score are has been released this Tuesday. Silva Screen Records has announced a soundtrack album for the adventure movie The Eagle. The album includes Atli Orvarsson’s original score for the film starring Channing Tatum, Jamie Bell and Donald Sutherland. The soundtrack will be released on February 22, 2011. The movie directed by Kevin Macdonald (Touching the Void, The Last King of Scotland, State of Play) takes place in Roman-ruled Britain, where a young Roman soldier endeavors to honor his father’s memory by finding his lost legion’s golden emblem. Mark Isham revealed in a recent interview on Scorenotes that he just signed on to score the upcoming family drama Dolphin Tale. The movie centers on the friendship between a boy and a dolphin whose tail was lost in a crab trap. The film stars Morgan Freeman, Ashley Judd, Harry Connick, Jr., Kris Kristofferson and Nathan Gamble. Dolphin Tale was shot in 3D and is supposed to feature spectacular underwater sequences. The film is directed by actor turned director Charles Martin Smith, who previously worked with Mychael Danna on his last two theatrical features (The Snow Walker, Stone of Destiny). John Debney has been hired to score the upcoming Garry Marshall-directed romantic comedy New Year’s Eve. The film tells intertwining stories of a group of New Yorkers as they navigate their way through bittersweet drama and romance over the course of New Year’s Eve. The movie follows the concept of 2009’s hit romantic comedy Valentine’s Day with Ashton Kutcher and Jessica Biel reappearing as different characters. The film’s cast also includes Sarah Jessica Parker, Halle Berry, Robert De Niro, Sofia Vergara, Jon Bon Jovi, Hilary Swank, Lea Michele, Zac Efron, Abigail Breslin, Michelle Pfeiffer and Alyssa Milano. John Debney has become Garry Marshall’s regular composer, scoring all of Marshall’s movie in the last decade including The Princess Diaries movies, Raising Helen, Georgia Rule and Valentine’s Day.
