SoundWorks Collection has published a new video profile on the sound and music of Christopher Nolan’s The Dark Knight Rises. In the 9-minute video, composer Hans Zimmer and supervising sound editor and sound designer Richard King talk about their work on the final chapter in Nolan’s Batman trilogy. Spinner has published a short video from the recording sessions of a new version of Moby‘s song Extreme Ways for Tony Gilroy’s action thriller The Bourne Legacy. The track was partly recorded with a 110-piece orchestra with the help of composers James Newton Howard (who also composed the film’s score) and Joseph Trapanese (Tron: Uprising). John Swihart to Score NBC’s ‘Go On’

John Swihart has been hired to score the new NBC comedy Go On. The show stars Matthew Perry  as a recent widower and sports talk radio host who is ready to get back to work after the loss of his wife. Laura Benanti, Julie White, Suzy Nakamura, Tyler James Williams, Brett Gelman and John Cho are co-starring. The series is created Scott Silveri who previously worked with Perry on NBC’s Friends. Silveri is also producing the project with Jon Pollack, Todd Holland (Wonderfalls) and Karey Nixon. Holland has also directed the pilot. Go On is set to premiere on September 11, 2012 on will be airing every Tuesday night on NBC. Read the rest of this entry »

Walt Disney Records will be releasing a soundtrack album for the family fantasy drama The Odd Life of Timothy Green. The album features the film’s original score composed by Geoff Zanelli (Disturbia, The Pacific). The soundtrack will be released both physically and digitally on August 14, 2012 and is now available for pre-order on Amazon. Click here to check out audio clips from all 24 tracks on the album. The Odd Life of Timothy Green is written and directed by Peter Hedges (Pieces of April, Dan in Real Life) and stars Jennifer Garner, Joel Edgerton, Ron Livingston, Dianne Wiest, Odeya Rush, Rosemarie DeWitt and CJ Adams. Varese Sarabande has announced the details of the soundtrack album for the horror thriller The Apparition. The album features the film’s original score composed by tomandandy (Resident Evil: Afterlife, The Strangers). The soundtrack will be released on August 21, 2012 and is now available for pre-order on Amazon. Check out audio clips from all tracks on the album below. The Apparition is directed by Todd Lincoln and stars Ashley Greene, Tom Felton and Sebastian Stan. Dickon Hinchliffe is scoring the upcoming indie drama At Any Price. The movie is directed by Ramin Bahrani (Goodbye Solo) and stars Zac Efron, Dennis Quaid, Heather Graham, Clancy Brown, Chelcie Ross, Maika Monroe and Kim Dickens. The film tells the story of  a rebellious son whose dreams of becoming a professional race-car driver are derailed when his father’s farming empire becomes the target of a high-stakes investigation. Bahrani has co-written the screenplay with Hallie Elizabath Newton and is also producing the drama with Teddy Schwarzman, Justin Nappi & Kevin Turen (Arbitrage), Christine Vachon (Boys Don’t Cry) and Pamela Koffler (One Hour Photo). Hans Zimmer Composes Tribute Piece for Aurora Victims

Following the recent tragedy in Aurora, Colorado, Hans Zimmer who composed the score for The Dark Knight Rises has recorded a new eight-minute piece in London in the days following the events as a heartfelt tribute to the victims and their families. 100% of the proceeds will be donated to Aurora Victim Relief organization. The track is available internationally on iTunes and those in the US can also donate and listen through MoonToast.

Madison Gate Records will be releasing the soundtrack album for the sci-fi thriller Total Recall. The album features the film’s original score composed by Harry Gregson-Williams (The Chronicles of Narnia, Kingdom of Heaven). The soundtrack will be released digitally on July 31, 2012. Audio clips from all 20 tracks on the album can be checked out on iTunes. Total Recall  is directed by Len Wiseman (Underworld, Live Free or Die Hard) and stars Colin Farrell, Kate Beckinsale, Bryan Cranston, Jessica Biel, Bill Nighy, John Cho and Ethan Hawke. Dario Marianelli has scored the upcoming comedy Quartet. The film marks the directorial debut of Dustin Hoffman and stars Maggie Smith, Billy Connolly, Michael Gambon and Pauline Collins. The movie tells the story of a group of retired opera singers who each year stage an opera to raise funds for the home in which they reside. Ronald Harwood (The Pianist, The Diving Bell and the Butterfly) has written the screenplay based on his own play and Finola Dwyer (An Education) and Stewart Mackinnon (the upcoming The Invisible Woman) are producing the comedy.  The music was recorded at Angel Studios in London. Two new movies are opening wide this weekend:

Opening in most theaters is the sci-fi comedy The Watch directed by Akiva Schaffer and starring Ben Stiller, Vince Vaughn, Jonah Hill, Rosemarie Dewitt and Richard Ayoade. Also opening wide is the dance movie Step Up Revolution directed by Scott Speer and starring Kathryn McCormick, Ryan Guzman and Stephen Boss. Aaron Zigman has composed the film’s score. Interscope Records has released a soundtrack including the songs featured in the movie by artists including Travis Parker, Timbaland, Fergie, Jennifer Lopez, M.I.A., Far East Movement, Sohanny and Vein, Diplo and My Name is Kay.
