explosions-in-the-skyExplosions in the Sky and David Wingo are set to reunite with David Gordon Green on the director’s upcoming drama Manglehorn. The film stars Al Pacino as an eccentric man who tries to come to terms with a past crime that cost him the love of his life. Paul Logan has written the screenplay based on an original story by Green and Logan. Green is also producing the project with Lisa Muskat (Snow Angels, Compliance, All the Real Girls) and Worldview Entertainment’s Christopher Woodrow & Molly Conners (Killer Joe, The Immigrant, Blood Ties). Explosions in the Sky and Wingo have previously co-scored Green’s Prince Avalanche starring Paul Rudd and Emile Hirsch, which is set to be released on August 9 by Magnolia Pictures. Wingo and Explosions drummer Chris Hrask have announced their involvement in Manglehorn in an interview with Hitfix. rushWaterTower Music will release the official soundtrack album for Ron Howard’s upcoming racing drama Rush. The album features the film’s original score composed by Hans Zimmer who has previously collaborated with the director on such films as The Da Vinci Code, Angels & Demons and Frost/Nixon. bearsGeorge Fenton has been hired to score Disneynature’s upcoming documentary Bears. The film is directed by Alastair Fothergill (Earth, African Cats, Chimpanzee) and Keith Scholey (African Cats) and showcases a year in the life of two mother bears as they impart life lessons to their impressionable young cubs. Set against a majestic Alaskan backdrop teeming with life, their journey begins as winter comes to an end and the bears emerge from hibernation to face the bitter cold. Fenton has previously scored Disneynature’s first release Earth, which was released in 2007. Bears is set to be released on April 18, 2014 by Walt Disney Pictures in time for next Earth Day. ‘Drift’ Soundtrack Released

driftWorld Wide Mind Films has released a soundtrack album for the drama Drift. The album features the songs from the film by artists including The Jezabels, Dennis Coffey fest. Paolo Nutini, Kula Shaker, Chuck Berry and T. Rex. Also included are four tracks from the film’s original score composed by Michael Yezerski (Mental, Storm Surfers 3D). The soundtrack is now available to download on iTunes, where you can also listen to audio clips. Drift is directed by Morgan O’Neill & Ben Nott and stars Sam Worthington, Robyn Malcolm, Myles Pollard, Xavier Samuel, Lesley-Ann Brandt, Aaron Glenane, Steve Bastoni and Maurie Ogden. The movie is based on a true story about two brothers who launch a backyard surf gear business but get caught up with a local drug dealer, threatening their family and their future. young-and-beautifulThe details of the soundtrack album for Francois Ozon’s drama Young & Beautiful (Jeune et jolie) have been revealed. The soundtrack features the film’s original score composed by Philippe Rombi who has previously worked with the director on such films as Swimming PoolAngelIn the House and Potiche. Also included are the songs featured in the film by Françoise Hardy, M83, Crystal Castles, The Citizens and Poni Hoax. The soundtrack will be released in France both physically and digitally on August 19, 2013 (visit Amazon to order the CD as an import). No word yet on a domestic release. Young & Beautiful written and directed by Ozon and starring Marine Vacth, Charlotte Rampling, Géraldine Pailhas, Frédéric Pierrot, Fantin Ravat and Johan Leisen tells the story of young woman coming of age from her sexual awakening to the loss of her virginity, and from her exploration of love to her search for her identity. The drama premiered at this year’s Cannes Film Festival and will be released in France on August 21. Composers in attendance include Emmy Award-winning composer Jeff Beal (Rome, Monk, Appaloosa) whose Emmy-nominated score for the Netflix original series House of Cards was released by the label earlier this year, Grammy Award-winning composer Heitor Pereira (Despicable Me, Beverly Hills Chihuaha) whose score for The Smurfs 2 was just released by Varese earlier this week and Emmy Award-winning composer Christophe Beck (Buffy the Vampire Slayer, The Muppets) whose music for The Hangover Trilogy is now available on CD following a digital release earlier this summer. Also participating are composers Laurent Eyquem (Winnie) who recently had his first score released on Varese for Ron Maxwell’s Copperhead and Ryan Amon whose score for Neil Blomkamp’s Elysium is set to be released on August 6, as well as Varèse Sarabande Records producer Robert Townson. bonnie-and-clydeJohn Debney is scoring the upcoming Lifetime/History Channel mini-series Bonnie & Clyde. The four hour series is directed by Bruce Beresford (Driving Miss DaisyDouble Jeopardy) and stars Emile Hirsch and Holliday Grainger in the title roles of Clyde Barrow and Bonnie Parker, the 1930s couple whose crime spree enraptured the American public. Holly Hunter, William Hurt, Sarah Hyland, Elizabeth Reaser, Lane Garrison, Austin Hebert and Dale Dickey are co-starring. Craig Zadan and Neil Meron (Steel MagnoliasThe Bucket ListChicago) are producing the Sony Pictures Television production. John Rice and Joe Batteer (WindtalkersBlown Away) have written the script. metallica-through-the-neverBlackened Recordings will release a soundtrack  album for the upcoming 3D concert film Metallica: Through the Never. The soundtrack features  15 songs recorded live in Edmonton and Vancouver in August of 2012 while the band was filming the performance footage in the movie. The album will be released as a 2-CD set and digitally on September 24, 2013. A vinyl version in both 33 1/3 RPM and a special limited, numbered deluxe 45 RPM is set to be released later this Fall. Trevor Morris to Score NBC’s ‘Dracula’

Trevor Morris has signed on to score the upcoming NBC drama Dracula. The show is created by Daniel Knauf (Carnivàle) and stars Jonathan Rhys Meyers, Jessica De Gouw, Oliver Jackson-Cohen, Katie McGrath, Thomas Kretschmann and Nonso Anozie. The series is set in 1890s London and follows Dracula as he arrives in Town posing as an American entrepreneur who maintains that he wants to bring modern science to Victorian society, but hopes to wreak revenge on the people who ruined his life centuries earlier. Knauf is also executive producing the NBC Universal Television production with Tony Krantz (24, Sports Night), Colin Callender and Gareth Neame (Downton Abbey). Steve Shill (Obsessed) who previously helmed numerous episodes of the Rhys Meyers-starring and Morris-scored The Tudors directed the pilot episode. Read the rest of this entry »

tims-vermeerConrad Pope is the composer of the upcoming documentary Tim’s Vermeer. The film is directed by Teller of Penn & Teller fame and follows Tim Jenison, a Texas based inventor, as he attempts to solve the mystery of how 17th century Dutch Master Johannes Vermeer (Girl with a Pearl Earring) managed to paint so photo-realistically,150 years before the invention of photography. The movie chronicles Jenisen’s decade-long journey, including a trip to Delft, Holland, where Vermeer painted his masterpieces, a pilgrimage to the North coast of Yorkshire to meet artist David Hockney and eventually a trip to Buckingham Palace, to see the Queen’s Vermeer. Teller’s stage partner Penn Jillette and Farley Ziegler are producing the project. Pope’s previous credits as a composer include 2011’s My Week with Marilyn and 2001’s Pavilion of Women. He is also known as an orchestrator for such A-list composers as John Williams, James Horner, Alexandre Desplat, James Newton Howard and Alan Silvestri.  Read the rest of this entry »
