Marc Shaiman has recently recorded his score for the upcoming comedy drama And So It Goes. The film is directed by Rob Reiner and stars Michael Douglas, Diane Keaton, Sterling Jerins, Frankie Valli, Scott Shepherd and Frances Sternhagen. The movie follows a self-centered real estate agent whose life is turned upside down when his estranged son suddenly drops off a granddaughter he never knew. Academy Award nominee Mark Andrus (As Good As It Gets, Life as a House) has written the screenplay. Reiner is also producing the Foresight Unlimited and Castle Rock production with Alan Greisman (Fletch, Soapdish) and Mark Damon (Monster, Nine 1/2 Weeks). WaterTower Music will release the official soundtrack album for the fantasy romance Winter’s Tale. The album features the film’s original score composed by Hans Zimmer (Gladiator, The Dark Knight, Inception) and Rupert Gregson-Williams (Bee Movie, Hotel Rwanda). Mario Grigorov has been hired to score the upcoming Lifetime original movie Flowers in the Attic. The film based on V.C. Andrews’ bestselling novel stars Heather Graham, Ellen Burstyn, Kiernan Shipka, Mason Dye and Dylan Bruce. The movie follows four young siblings, two boys and two girls, who, after the tragic death of their father, are subjected to cruel emotional and physical abuse resulting from a dark, long-hidden family secret. Deborah Chow (The High Cost of Living) is directing the thriller from a script by Kayla Alpert (Confessions of a Shopaholic). Merideth Finn (The Rite), Michele Weiss (Dear John) and Charles W. Academy Announces 75 Original Songs in Oscar Race

The Academy of Motion Pictures Arts and Sciences has announced the short list of 75 songs that are in contention for nominations in the Original Song category for the 86th Academy Awards. During the nominations process, all voting members of the Music Branch will receive a Reminder List of works submitted in the category and a DVD copy of the song clips. Members will be asked to watch the clips and then vote in the order of their preference for not more than five achievements in the category. The nominations will be announced on January 16, 2014.

Terence Blanchard is currently recording his score for the upcoming drama Black and White. The film is written and directed by Mike Binder and stars Kevin Costner, Octavia Spencer, Jennifer Ehle, Gillian Jacobs, Andre Holland, Bill Burr, Mpho Koaho and Jillian Estell. The movie follows a grieving widower who is fighting for custody of his bi-racial granddaughter with the girl’s paternal grandmother and his drug addict son-in-law, who he blames for his own daughter’s death. Jeff Grace Scoring ‘Cold in July’

Jeff Grace is reuniting with director Jim Mickle on the upcoming thriller Cold in July. The film starring Michael C. Hall, Don Johnson, Sam Shepard, Vinessa Shaw, Nick Damici and Wyatt Russell follows a small-town Texas man kills a home intruder, only to see his life violently unravel. Mickle has also co-written the screenplay with his writing partner Nick Damici based on the cult novel of the same title by Joe Lansdale. Linda Moran & René Bastian (Transamerica), Marie Savare de Laitre and Adam Folk (Mulberry Street) are producing the project. ‘Alone Yet Not Alone’ to Feature Original Song by Bruce Broughton

Bruce Broughton has composed the original song Alone Yet Not Alone for the upcoming 1700s-set drama of the same name. The Academy Award-nominated composer collaborated with Emmy nominee Dennis Spiegel who wrote the lyrics for the song, which is performed by author and radio host Joni Eareckson Tada.The song is a recurring theme throughout the film and plays a major role in the storyline. Broughton whose best known film scoring credits include Silverado, Young Sherlock Holmes and Rescuers Down Under and Spiegel previously collaborated together on a number of commissioned chorale works. Alone Yet Not Alone based on the novel by Tracy Leininger Crave is directed by Roy Bengston and follows the capture of two sisters by Native Americans prior to the French Indian. John Debney Honored at ETM-LA’s Annual Benefit Gala

This past Tuesday night, John Debney was honored at Education Through Music-Los Angeles’ (ETM-LA) 8th Annual Benefit Gala at the Skirball Cultural Center in Los Angeles. Director Tom Shadyac who worked with Debney on such films as Liar Liar, Bruce Almighty, Evan Almighty and Dragonfly presented the award to the Academy Award-nominated composer. He also presented a video, which featured many of Debney’s friends and collaborators, including Jon Favreau (Iron Man 2, Elf, Zathura) and Rob Cohen (Alex Cross, The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor), congratulating the composer on his honor. The music students of the ETM-LA program and David Starr Jordan Middle School performed Debney’s theme from the holiday comedy Elf, which director Jon Favreau singled out as his favorite score from any film he directed.
