terms-of-endearmentQuartet Records has announced the world premiere release of the complete score for the 1983 drama Terms of Endearment directed by James L. Brooks and starring Shirley McLaine, Debra Winger, Jack Nicholson, Jeff Daniels, John Lithgow and Danny DeVito. The film’s music is composed by Michael Gore (Fame, Pretty in Pink, Defending Your Life) who received an Academy Award nomination for his work on the film. The movie also ended up winning five Oscars, including Best Picture and Best Director. The limited edition 2-CD set features the complete score presented in film order (including several alternate versions), as well as the Richard Hazard recordings of song standards not included in the final print of the movie on the first disc. theodore-shapiroThe Academy of Motion Pictures Arts and Sciences has published its latest episode in the digital documentary-style video series, Academy Originals, which examines everything from the creative process, to the moments that changed the course of filmmaking, to the artists who are charting its future. The newest episode in the Creative Sparks series features an interview with composer Theodore Shapiro (The Devils Wears Prada, Tropic Thunder, Marley & Me) who discusses his creative process and where his ideas come from. ‘My Old Lady’ Soundtrack Details

my-old-ladyBAG Production will release a soundtrack album for the comedy drama My Old Lady. The album features the film’s original music composed by Mark Orton (Nebraska, The Good Girl). Also included is a track from the composer’s acoustic chamber group Tin Hat and a track by the jazz ensemble The Hot Club of San Francisco. The soundtrack will be released digitally on September 16, 2014 and is now available for pre-order on iTunes, where you can also listen to audio clips. My Old Lady is written and directed by Israel Horovitz and stars Kevin Kline, Kristin Scott Thomas and Maggie Smith. The movie follows a down-and-out New Yorker who inherits an apartment in Paris from his estranged father and is stunned to find a refined old lady living there with her protective daughter. z-nationPremiering on Friday, September 12, is the Syfy original series Z Nation created by Karl Schaefer and starring Harold Perrineau, Tom Everett Scott, DJ Qualls, Michael Welch, Kellita Smith and Anastasia Baranova. Jason Gallagher who is best known as a member of the rock band Leroy Justice is composing the show’s original score. Z Nation takes place there years after a zombie virus has gutted the country and follows a team of everyday heroes must transport the only known survivor of the plague from New York to California, where the last functioning viral lab waits for his blood. ‘Swelter’ Soundtrack Released

swelterTreehouse Music has released a soundtrack album for the action thriller Swelter. The album features the film’s original music composed by Tree Adams (Californication, Perception, Sirens). The soundtrack is now available to download on Amazon. Audio clips are embedded after the jump. Swelter is directed by Keith Palmer and stars Jean-Claude Van Damme, Alfred Molina, Lennie James, Catalina Moreno and Freya Tingley. The movie follows four men who blast their way out of jail 10 years after robbing more than $100 million from the Luxor Casino in Las Vegas. They track down track down their former boss, only to find him working as a sheriff in a small town with no memory of his violent past. Ryan Shore has signed on to score and write songs for Disney Television Animation’s upcoming series Penn Zero: Part Time Hero. The show is created by Jared Bush (All of Us, Zootopia) & Sam Levine (Wreck-It Ralph, Bolt) and features the voices of Thomas Middleditch (Silicon Valley), Adam DeVine (Pitch Perfect), Tania Gunadi (Transformers Prime), Alfred Molina (Chocolat), and Larry Wilmore (The Daily Show). The animated comedy adventure series follows Penn Zero, a boy from the suburbs who lands a job as a part-time hero and leader of a team of good guys who zap to other worlds to save the day. He teams up with sidekick Sashi and wise man Boone, who together tackle everything from space, the Old West, lands of enchantment and the ultimate challenge – suburbia. The show is created by Margaret Nagle (Boardwalk Empire) based on the Spanish TV series Polseres vermelles and stars Octavia Spencer, Dave Annable, Griffin Gluck, Nolan Sotillo, Charlie Rowe and Brian Bradley. The coming-of-age comedy drama follows the daily lives of a group of teenagers living in a hospital’s pediatric ward who become unlikely friends. Steven Spielberg is producing the ABC Studios and Amblin Television production with Justin Falvey & Darryl Frank (The Americans, Falling Skies, Under the Dome) and Sergio Aguero (No Reservations, Quarantine). identicalThe only movie opening nationwide this weekend is the music-themed drama The Identical directed by Dustin Marcellino and starring Erin Cottrell, Amanda Crew, Brian Geraghty, Seth Green, Ashley Judd, Joe Pantoliano, Blake Rayne, and Ray Liotta.  Klaus Badelt (Pirates of the CaribbeanConstantineRescue Dawn) and Christopher Carmichael have composed the film’s original score. City of Peace Media and Capitol Christian Distribution have released a soundtrack album featuring five tracks from the composers’ score, as well as the songs from the film performed by lead actor Blake Rayne, The Morph Kings and Darcey & Mo. kelly-and-calOpening in limited release is the indie comedy drama Kelly & Cal directed by Jen McGowan and starring Juliette Lewis, Cybill Shepherd and Jonny Weston. The film’s original music is composed by Toby Chu (Covert Affairs, Legends of Oz: Dorothy’s Return). No soundtrack album has been announced. The movie centers on the relationship between a suburban-trapped mother and a wheelchair-bound young man who brings out her former self. The dramedy premiered at this year’s SXSW Film Festival and was picked up by IFC Films for domestic distribution. piratesGeoff Zanelli is attached to score the upcoming fantasy adventure sequel Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales. The film will be directed by Joachim Rønning and Espen Sandberg (Kon-Tiki). Johnny Depp is set to return as Captain Jack Sparrow. No other casting or plot details have been announced yet. Jeff Nathanson (Catch Me If You Can, The Terminal, Rush Hour 2) has been hired to write the screenplay. Jerry Bruckheimer (The Rock, National Treasure, Beverly Hills Cop, Armageddon) returns as a producer. Zanelli has previously composed additional music for all four movies in the Pirates in the Caribbean series scored by Hans Zimmer and Klaus Badelt.
