Three new movies are opening nationwide this weekend:

insurgentExpected to top the weekend box office is the second part in the Divergent series, Insurgent directed by Robert Schwentke and starring Shailene Woodley, Theo James, Octavia Spencer, Jai Courtney, Ray Stevenson, Zoë Kravitz, Miles Teller, Ansel Elgort, Maggie Q, Naomi Watts and Kate Winslet. Joseph Trapanese (Oblivion, Earth to Echo) has composed the film’s original score. Interscope Records has released a soundtrack album featuring the songs from the film by such artists as M83 feat. Haim, Imagine Dragons, Royal Blood, Woodkid feat. Lykke Li, Anna Calvi, SOHN and Zella Day, as well as a score suite. Click here for the full details. The label has also released a separate soundtrack featuring Trapanese’s score earlier this week. the-gunmanAlso opening wide is the action thriller The Gunman directed by Pierre Morrel, produced by Joel Silver and starring Sean Penn, Javier Bardem, Idris Elba, Ray Winstone, Mark Rylance and Jasmine Trinca. Marco Beltrami (World War ZThe Hurt LockerScream, The Wolverine) has composed the film’s original music. Mark Isham Scoring Bob Yari’s ‘Papa’

mark-ishamMark Isham is composing the music for the upcoming drama Papa. The film is directed by Bob Yari (producer of The IllusionistHostage and The Painted Veil) and stars Giovanni Ribisi, Adrian Sparks, Joely Richardson, James Remar and Minka Kelly. The movie follows an American journalist who travels to Cuba in 1959, on a mission to meet his idol, the legendary Ernest Hemingway. Denne Bart Petitclerc has written the screenplay based on his own experience. Yari is also producing the project, which marks the first Hollywood production that was shot in Cuba in over 45 years. Read the rest of this entry »

imageThe details of the score album for the action sequel Furious 7 have been revealed. The album features the film’s original music composed by Brian Tyler (Iron Man 3, Thor: The Dark World, Now You See Me) who previously scored The Fast and the Furious: Tokyo Drift, Fast & Furious and Fast Five. The soundtrack will be released on March 31, 2015 and is now available for pre-order on Amazon. Check out audio clips after the jump. headlockMichael Andrews is the composer of the upcoming thriller Headlock. The film marks the feature directorial debut of actor/screenwriter/producer Mark Polish (The Astronaut Farmer, Nortfork) and stars himself, alongside Dianna Agron, Andy Garcia and Justin Bartha. The movie follows a new CIA recruit who is seriously injured during a mission, surviving only on life support, and his wife, a former CIA operative who becomes determined to find out what happened to her husband. Polish has also written the screenplay. Michael Benaroya (Lawless, Margin Call, Kill Your Darlings) is producing the project for Benaroya Pictures, alongside Janet Du Bois (Stay Cool, The Smell of Success). Read the rest of this entry »

‘Grabbers’ Soundtrack Details

The album features the film’s original music composed by Christian Henson (Severance, The Devil’s Double, Triangle, Sinbad)The soundtrack will be released on March 24, 2015 and is now available for pre-order on Amazon. Audio samples are embedded after the jump. Grabbers is directed by Jon Wright and stars Richard Coyle, Ruth Bradley, Russell Tovey, Lalor Roddy, David Pearse and Bronagh Gallagher. The movie is set in a sleepy fishing village off the coast of Ireland and follows two mismatched cops who attempt to protect the islanders from the giant, bloodsucking, tentacled aliens that are out to get them. rock-dogRolfe Kent is composing the music for the upcoming animated feature Tibetan Rock Dog. The film is directed by Ash Brannon (Toy Story 2, Surf’a Up) and features the voices of Luke Wilson, Mae Whitman, J.K. Simmons, Eddie Izzard, Matt Dillon, Sam Elliott and Jorge Garcia. The movie follows a wide-eyed Tibetan Mastiff who discovers a radio and decides to leave home to fulfill his dream of becoming a musician. The American/Chinese co-production is produced by Reel FX Creative Studios (Free BirdsThe Book of Life) and Mandoo Pictures. john-williamsDreamWorks Pictures announced today that John Williams will be reteaming with Steven Spielberg on the director’s upcoming family drama The BFG. The movie starring Mark Rylance and Ruby Barnhill is based on the book by Roald Dahl (Willy Wonka & the Chocolate Factory, Fantastic Mr. Fox) and tells the story of a young orphan girl and the mysterious friendly Giant who introduces her to Giant Country. Melissa Mathison (E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial, Kundun) has adapted the material for the screen. Spielberg is also producing the project with Frank Marshall (The Bourne Series, The Sixth Sense, Poltergeist) and Sam Mercer (Signs, Unbreakable). Read the rest of this entry »

bridge-of-spiesThomas Newman has been hired to score the upcoming spy thriller Bridge of Spies. The film is directed by Steven Spielberg and stars Tom Hanks, Mark Rylance, Scott Shepherd, Amy Ryan, Sebastian Koch and Alan Alda. The movie follows a Brooklyn lawyer who finds himself thrust into the center of the Cold War when the CIA sends him on the near-impossible task to negotiate the release of a captured American U-2 pilot. Matt Charman (Suite Francaise) and Ethan Coen & Joel Coen (No Country for Old Men, Fargo, The Big Lebowkski) have written the screenplay. mr-robotMac Quayle is scoring the upcoming USA original series Mr. Robot. The show is created by Sam Esmail (Comet) and stars Rami Malek, Christian Slater, Portia Doubleday, Martin Wallstrom and Carly Chaikin. The thriller follows a young programmer, who works as a cyber-security engineer by day and as a vigilante hacker by night and finds himself at a crossroads when the mysterious leader of an underground hacker group recruits him to destroy the firm he is paid to protect.
