Two new movies are opening nationwide this weekend:

secret-life-of-petsExpected to top the weekend box office is the animated feature The Secret Life of Pets  directed by Chris Renaud & Yarrow Cheney and starring Louis C.K., Eric Stonestreet, Kevin Hart, Ellie Kemper, Lake Bell, Jenny Slate, Bobby Moynihan, Hannibal Buress and Albert Brooks. The film’s original music is composed by Alexandre Desplat (The Grand Budapest HotelThe King’s SpeechHarry Potter and the Deathly Hallows). Back Lot Music has released a soundtrack album featuring the composer’s score. mike-and-daveAlso opening wide is the comedy Mike and Dave Need Wedding Dates directed by Jake Szymanski and starring Zac Efron, Adam Devine, Anna Kendrick, Aubrey Plaza, Lyn Sugar Beard and Stephen Root. Jeff Cardoni (Silicon ValleyJust FriendsCSI: Miami) has composed the film’s original score. Lakeshore Records has released a soundtrack album featuring a score suite by the composer, as well as the songs from the movie by Outasight, Mase, The Beatards, The Darkness, Think Lizzy & more. animal-crackersBear McCreary is composing the score for the upcoming animated feature Animal Crackers. The film is directed by Tony Bancroft (Mulan) & Scott Christian Sava and features the voice talent of Emily Blunt, Sylvester Stallone, Ian McKellen, John Krasinski, Patrick Warburton and Danny DeVito. The movie centers on a family whose life is turned upside down when they inherit a rundown circus and a mysterious box of Animal Crackers, which magically changes the person who eats them into animals. Sava has also written the screenplay with Dean Lorey (Arrested Development) who is also producing the Blue Dream Studios production with George Lee, Marcus Englefield, James Thomason and Leiming Guan. frequencyToby Chu has been hired to score the upcoming CW drama Frequency. The show is created by Jeremy Carver (SupernaturalBeing Human) and stars Peyton List, Riley Smith, Devin Kelley, Mekhi Phifer, Anthony Ruivivar, Lenny Jacobson and Daniel Bonjour. The movie is inspired by the 2000 feature of the same title starring Dennis Quaid and follows a police detective who discovers that she is able to speak via a ham radio with her estranged father, a detective who died in 20 years ago. Carver is also executive producing the Warner Bros. Television production with Toby Emmerich (The Notebook), John Rickard (Horrible Bosses 2, How to Be Single), Dan Lin (The Lego Movie, Sherlock Holmes) and Jennifer Gwartz (Veronica Mars). Also included is a cover of the song While My Guitar Gently Weeps performed by Regina Spektor and recorded specifically for the movie. marcelo-zarvosMarcelo Zarvos has signed on to score the pilot of the upcoming TNT original series Civil. The show is created by Scott Smith (A Simple PlanThe Ruins) and stars Bradley Whitford, Courtney B. Vance, Toby Jones, Brian d’Arcy James, Eliza Coupe and Enrique Murciano. The drama takes place in the wake of a hotly contested Presidential election, as America finds itself plunging uncontrollably into a modern day Civil War. Smith is also executive producing the MGM Television production with Lloyd Braun (Alphas, The Cape) and Thomas Kelly (Copper, The Get Down). Allen Coulter is directing the pilot. The film is directed by Tim Divar and features the voices of Frank Welker, Grey DeLisle Griffin, Matthew Lillard and Kate Micucci, as well as WWE superstars The Undertaker, Triple H, Paige, Sheamus, Mr. McMahon, Stephanie McMahon, Lana, Rusev, The Miz, Kolfi Kingston and Goldust. The album features selections of the music from the show’s second season composed by Bear McCreary (10 Cloverfield LaneBattlestar GalacticaThe Walking DeadAgents of S.H.I.E.L.D.The Boy) who received an Emmy Award nomination for his work on the drama last year. The soundtrack will be released physically on October 28, 2016 and is now available for pre-order on Amazon. Check back on this page for the full album details. The label has previously released two soundtracks featuring McCreary’s music from the first season. Outlander is created by Ronald D. Moore based on the books by Diana Gabaldon and stars Caitrona Balfe, Sam Heughan, Tobias Menzies, Graham McTavish, Gary Lewis, Duncan Lacroix, Annette Badland and Stephen Walters.
