BBC has announced that Rene Aubry is set to score the upcoming animated special Superworm. The Magic Light Pictures production is directed by Sarah Scrimgeour & Jac Hamman and stars Olivia Colman as the narrator, Matt Smith as the title character, as well as Patricia Allison as Butterfly, and Rob Brydon as the Crow. The special based on Julia Donaldson & Axel Scheffler’s story of the same title follows the titular hero who has always on hand to help out all the other animals and insects – whether he’s saving baby toad from an accident, rescuing beetle from falling down a well, or offering himself up as a skipping rope for some bored bees. Premiering on Wednesday, February 10, is the Netflix docu-series Crime Scene: The Vanishing at the Cecil Hotel directed by Joe Berlinger, executive produced by Ron Howard, Brian Grazer, Sara Bernstein, Justin Wilkes, Jon Doran, Jon Kamen & Ryan Miller about Downtown Los Angeles’ Cecil Hotel. The show’s original score is composed by Wendy Blackstone (A Girl in the River, Paradise Lost 3: Purgatory, Lost in Florence). Cesar Davila-Irizarry has provided the project’s main titles theme. Premiering on Friday, February 12, is the Amazon original movie The Map of Tiny Perfect Things directed by Ian Samuels and starring Kathryn Newton, Kyle Allen, Jermaine Harris, Anna Mikami, Josh Hamilton, Cleo Fraser and Jorja Fox. Tom Bromley (Angelfish) has composed the film’s original music. The romantic comedy drama, which follows a quick-witted teen who is contentedly living the same day in an endless loop when his world is turned upside-down by a mysterious girl, also stuck in the same loop, will be available to stream exclusively on Amazon Prime. Cesar Davila-Irizarry, best known for his main titles theme for FX’s American Horror Story, has composed the theme music for Netflix’s Crime Scene: The Vanishing at the Cecil Hotel, the first season in a new docu-series that deconstructs the mythology and mystery surrounding infamous locations in contemporary crime. Wendy Blackstone (A Girl in the River, Lost in Florence, Criminal Passion) has provided the original score for the show’s first season, which is directed by Joe Berlinger (Conversations with a Killer: The Ted Bundy Tapes, Paradise Lost trilogy, Brother’s Keeper) and focuses on the Cecil Hotel in Downtown Los Angeles, which has been linked to some of the city’s most notorious activity, from untimely deaths to housing serial killers, including the disappearance of college student Elisa Lam in 2013. Waxwork Records has announced the world premiere release of the original score for the 1991 superhero comedy Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles II: The Secret of the Ooze directed by Michael Pressman and starring Paige Turco, David Warner, Brian Tochi, Robbie Rist, Adam Carl and Laurie Faso. The album features the film’s original music composed by John DuPrez (A Fish Called Wanda, Once Bitten, Oxford Blues, The Meaning of Life) who also scored the original and third installments in the series. Zacarias M. de la Riva (Automata, The Kill Team, Tad the Explorer, Bent) has shared a new behind-the-scenes look at the creation of his score for the Spanish Netflix original film Below Zero (Bajocero). The video features an interview with the composer talking about his musical approach for the thriller, the composing process and the challenges of recording his music during the first national lockdown in Spain last year, as well as footage from the orchestral recording sessions with the Budapest Symphony Orchestra, which he supervised remotely from his studio in Madrid. The film’s original music is composed by Keegan DeWitt (Hearts Beat Loud, Gemini, A Teacher, I’ll See You in My Dreams, All Together Now, Divorce, The Hero). HBO announced today that Michael Abels (Get Out, Us, Bad Education, See You Yesterday) is the composer of the new HBO docu-series Allen v. Farrow. The show is directed by Kirby Dick (The Hunting Ground, The Bleeding Edge) & Amy Ziering (On the Record) and focuses on the accusation of sexual abuse against Woody Allen involving Dylan, his then seven-year-old daughter with Mia Farrow; their subsequent custody trial, the revelation of Allen’s relationship with Farrow’s daughter, Soon-Yi; and the controversial aftermath in the years that followed.
