Nathaniel Mechaly (Taken, The Grandmaster, Colombiana, Shut In) is composing the music for the upcoming TV series Shadowplay. The show is created by Måns Mårlind (Underworld Awakening, The Bridge) and stars Taylor Kitsch, Michael C. Hall, Nina Hoss, Sebastian Koch, Tuppence Middleton, Logan Marshall-Green and Mala Emde. The thriller follows an American cop who arrives in Berlin in the summer of 1946 to help create a police force in the chaotic aftermath of the war. Mårlind is also executive producing the Tandem, BRON Studios and ZDF production with Rola Bauer (Take Two, Crossing Lines), Jonas Bauer (The Pillars of the Earth), Tim Halkin (World Without End), Jim Gillespie (I Know What You Did Last Summer) and Aaron L. Gilbert (Bombshell, Tully), Steven Thibault & David Davoli.

‘Persona non grata’ Soundtrack Released
Milan Records has released a soundtrack album for the French thriller Persona non grata. The album features the film’s original music composed by Nathaniel Mechaly (Taken series, Colombiana, Taxi Brooklyn, The Grandmaster). Also included are songs by Matt Bauer, Model Man and Eduardo Muchacho. The soundtrack is now available to download on Amazon, where you can also listen to audio clips and check out the track list. Persona non grata is directed by Roschdy Zem who also stars in the movie alongside Nicolas Duvauchelle and Raphaël Personna. The thriller follows two friends and associates in the same company who can no longer stand their boss and decide to hire a hitman to eliminate the cause of their misery.
Soundtrack Album for HBO’s ‘O.G.’ Released
Lakeshore Records has released a soundtrack album for the drama O.G. The album features the film’s original music composed by Nathaniel Mechaly (Taken series, Colombiana, The Grandmaster, Taxi Brooklyn). Also included is The Pendleton Praise Team’s cover of Jimi Hendrix’s Hey Joe. The soundtrack is now available to download on Amazon, where you can also listen to audio samples. O.G. is directed by Madeleine Sackler and stars Jeffrey Wright, Theothus Carter, Boyd Holbrook, Mare Winningham, William Fichtner and David Patrick Kelly. The drama follows a maximum-security prison inmate whose impending release is upended when he takes a new arrival under his wing.

Premiering on Friday, February 22 is the Netflix original movie Paddleton co-written and directed by Alex Lehmann and starring Mark Duplass, Ray Romano, Ravi Patel and Christine Woods. The film’s original music is composed by Julian Wass (Hit and Run, The Miseducation of Cameron Post, Room 104, Insatiable, The Overnight). Also premiering on Friday in the U.S. is the Spanish drama The Photographer of Mauthausen (El fotografo de Mauthausen) directed by Mar Targarona and starring Mario Casas, Richard van Weyden and Alain Hernández. Diego Navarro (Capture the Flag, Mimesis) has composed the film’s original music. Rosetta Records has released a soundtrack album last fall when the movie opened overseas. The movie, which follows a Catalán prisoner at a Nazi concentration camp who uses his office job to steal photo negatives of the atrocities committed there, will be available to stream stateside exclusively on Netflix.
‘Swoon’ Soundtrack Released
MovieScore Media has released a soundtrack album for the Swedish fantasy romance Swoon (Eld & Lågor). The album features the film’s original music composed by Nathaniel Mechaly (Taken series, Colombiana, The Grandmaster, Transporter: The Series, Shut In). The soundtrack is now available to download on Amazon, where you can also check out audio samples. A CD version will be coming out soon from Music Box Records. Swoon is written and directed by Mans Marlind & Bjorn Stein and stars Pernilla August, Albin Grenholm, Frida Gustavsson and Robert Gustafson. The movie takes place in an imaginary universe and follows the love story between the young heirs of two rival families who own neighboring amusement parks.

Nathaniel Mechaly Scoring Netflix’s ‘November 13’ & ‘O.G.’
Nathaniel Mechaly is scoring the upcoming Netflix docu-series November 13. The 3-parter is directed by Jules & Gédéon Naudet (9/11) and explores the human stories behind the terrorist attacks that took place in Paris on November 13th, 2015. The documentary will share testimonies of the people brought together by tragedy, from the survivors, the fire department, the Police and the leaders of the French government including French President at the time of the events, François Hollande. The Naudet brothers are also executive producing the project with Propagate’s Ben Silverman & Howard T. Owens.

The only movie opening nationwide this weekend is the horror thriller Insidious: The Last Key directed by Adam Robitel, written by Leigh Whannell, produced by Jason Blum and starring Lin Shaye, Angus Sampson, Leigh Whannell, Josh Stewart, Caitlin Gerard, Kirk Acevedo, Javier Botet, Bruce Davison, Spencer Locke and Tessa Ferrer. The film’s original music is composed by Joseph Bishara (The Conjuring, Annabelle, Dark Skies) who previously scored the first three installments in the series. Opening in limited release is the horror movie Day of the Dead: Bloodline directed by Hèctor Hernández Vicens and starring Johnathon Schaech, Sophie Skelton, Marcus Vanco and Jeff Gum. Frederik Wiedmann (Field of Lost Shoes, Dying of the Light, Green Lantern: The Animated Series, Hangman) has composed the film’s original music. No word yet on a soundtrack release. The movie, which is set in a post-apocalyptic, zombie-filled world where a former med school student is tormented by a dark figure from her past, is being released in theaters and on VOD by Saban Films.
Nathaniel Mechaly Scoring ‘See You Tomorrow’
Nathaniel Mechaly has recently recorded his score for the upcoming Chinese romance See You Tomorrow. The film is written and directed by Zhang Jiajia and stars Tony Leung Chiu-wai, Takeshi Kaneshiro, Eason Chan, Angelababy and Sandrine Pinna. The movie follows a young woman who falls in love with a married painter whose wife is unfaithful to him. Kar Wai Wong (In the Mood for Love, 2046, My Blueberry Nights) is producing the project. Mechaly (Taken series, Colombiana) has previously collaborated with Wong on the 2014 feature The Grandmaster.

Midnight Sun is directed by Mans Marlind & Bjorn Stein (The Bridge) and stars Leila Bekhti and Gustaf Hammarsten. The drama follows a French detective who teams up with a Swedish detective to investigate the bestial murder of a French citizen in a remote mining community in the far north of Sweden.
