Weekly Film Music Roundup (November 2, 2012)

Three new movies are opening nationwide this weekend:

Expected to top the weekend box office is the animated feature Wreck-It-Ralph directed by Rich Moore and featuring the voice talent of John C. Reilly, Sarah Silverman, Jack McBrayer and Jane Lynch. The film’s score is composed by Henry Jackman (X-Men: First Class). Walt Disney Records has released a soundtrack album featuring the score, as well as one track by Skrillex who wrote some of the in-game music and other songs featured in the film. Attached to the film is the animated short Paperman, which features an original score by Christophe Beck.

Also opening wide is the drama director Robert Zemeckis and starring Denzel Washington, Kelly Reilly, Don Cheadle, Bruce Greenwood, John Goodman, Melissa Leo and James Badge Dale. The director’s regular musical collaborator Alan Silvestri (Back to the Future, The Avengers) has composed the film’s original score. SoundWorks Collection has published a video profile on the sound and music of Disney’s animated feature Wreck-It-Ralph. The video features interviews with composer Henry Jackman (X-Men: First Class, Puss in Boots), as well as sound re-recording mixers David Fluhr & Gary Rizzo and supervising sound editor Frank Eulner. The full details of the soundtrack album for Disney’s animated feature Wreck-It-Ralph have been announced. The album features the film’s original score composed by Henry Jackman (X-Men: First Class, Puss in Boots), as well as the songs When Can I See You Again? performed by Owl City, Wreck-It, Wreck-It Ralph by Buckner & Garcia, Celebration by Kool & The Gang, Sugar Rush by AKB48 and Shut Up and Drive by Rihanna. Also included is the track Bug Hunt (Noisa Remix) by Skrillex who wrote some of the in-game music for the film. The soundtrack is set to be released on October 30, 2012 and is now available for pre-order on Amazon. Wreck-It-Ralph is directed by Rich Moore and features the voice talent of John C. Walt Disney Records has announced a soundtrack album for Disney’s upcoming animated feature Wreck-It-Ralph. The album features selections from the film’s original score composed by Henry Jackman (X-Men: First Class, Puss in Boots), as well as music by Grammy-winning electronic music artist Skrillex who wrote the game-play music Bug Hunt, which was remixed for the album by Noisia. Also included on the release is the theme song Sugar Rush performed by Japan’s pop phenomenon AKB48, When Can I See You Again? by Owl City and the end credits song Wreck-It, Wreck-It Ralph by Buckner & Garcia and co-produced with Jamie Houston. The soundtrack will be released on October 30, 2012 and is now available for pre-order on Amazon. The full album details and the album cover art will be posted on this site within the next few weeks. Wreck-It-Ralph is directed by Rich Moore and features the voices of actors John C. Reilly, Sarah Silverman, Jack McBrayer and Jane Lynch. The movie will be released on November 2, 2012 .

Henry Jackman Scoring Disney’s ‘Wreck-It-Ralph’

Henry Jackman is currently recording his score for Walt Disney Animation Studios’ upcoming feature Wreck-It-Ralph. The film is directed by Rich Moore (The Simpsons, Futurama) and follows the behind-the-scenes lives of vintage arcade game characters. The movie’s voice talent include John C. Reilly, Sarah Silverman, Jack McBrayer and Jane Lynch. Phil Johnston (Cedar Rapids) and Jennifer Lee have written the screenplay and Clark Spencer (Bolt, Lilo & Stitch) is producing the project. Jackman has previously scored last year’s Winnie the Pooh feature for Disney, which was also produced by Spencer.

Expected to top the weekend box office is Pixar’s 13th full length animated feature Brave directed by Mark Andrews and featuring the voice talent of Kelly MacDonald, Emma Thompson, Craig Ferguson, Robbie Coltrane and Billy Connolly. The film’s score is composed by Patrick Doyle. Walt Disney Records has released a soundtrack featuring the composer’s score, as well as songs from Scottish Gaelic singer Julie Fowlis and a collaboration between folk rock band Mumford and Sons who penned Learn Me Right sung by Birdy. The details of the soundtrack album for the supernatural action film Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter have been revealed. The abum features the film’s original music composed by Henry Jackman (X-Men: First Class, Puss in Boots). The release date of the soundtrack’s CD version has been pushed back to July 3, 2012 since our last update. To pre-order the Sony Masterworks release, visit Amazon. Sony Masterworks to Release Soundtracks for ‘Prometheus’ and ‘Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter’

Sony Masterworks will be releasing the official soundtrack albums for two of the major summer films by 20th Century Fox. First up is the soundtrack for Ridley Scott’s sci-fi horror thriller Prometheus. The album features the original music from the film by Marc Streitenfeld (American Gangster, Robin Hood). More details are expected to be announced within the next couple of weeks. The soundtrack is scheduled for a release on June 5, 2012 and is now available for pre-order on Amazon. Prometheus stars Noomi Rapace, Charlize Theron, Michael Fassbender, Guy Pearce, Idris Elba, Logan Marshall-Green and Ben Foster and will be released on June 8.

Henry Jackman to Score ‘G.I. Joe: Retaliation’

Henry Jackman has been tapped to score the upcoming action sequel G.I. Joe: Retaliation. The film is directed by Jon Cho (Step Up 2 & 3, Justin Bieber: Never Say Never) and stars Channing Tatum, Dwayne Johnson, Bruce Willis, Byung Hun Lee, Adrienne Palicki, Ray Park, D.J. Cotrona, Jonathan Pryce and Ray Stevenson. In the sequel to the 2009 film, the G.I. Joes are fighting their mortal enemy Cobra and are also forced to contend with threats from within the government that jeopardize their very existence. Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick (Zombieland) have written the screenplay and Lorenzo di Bonaventura (Transformers, Salt) and Brian Goldner (Battleship) are producing the film based on the Hasbro’s G.I. Joe characters.

Three new movies are opening in wide release this weekend:

Opening in most theaters is the action drama The Grey directed by Joe Carnahan and starring Liam Neeson, Dermot Mulroney, Dallas Roberts, Joe Anderson and James Badge Dale. The film’s music is composed by Marc Streitenfeld who has become go-to composer of Ridley Scott (who is producing The Grey) over the last couple of years, having previously scored such films as American Gangster and Robin Hood. Also opening wide is the action thriller Man on a Ledge directed by Asger Leth and starring Sam Worthington, Elizabeth Banks, Ed Harris, Jamie Bell, Anthony Mackie, Genesis Rodriguez, Edward Burns and Kyra Sedgwick. Henry Jackman (X-Men: First Class, Puss in Boots) has written the music for the film. Summit Entertainment has released a soundtrack album featuring Jackman’s music. The album is already available to download and the CD version will be released on February 7.
