The team behind the sound mixing of Tom Hooper’s Les Miserables has won the award for Outstanding Achievement in Sound Mixing for 2012 Motion Pictures – Live Action at tonight’s 49th annual Cinema Audio Society Awards ceremony at the Millennium Biltmore Hotel in Los Angeles. Scoring mixer Jonathan Allen, along with production mixer Simon Hayes, re-recording mixers Andy Nelson & Mark Paterson, ADR mixer Robert Edwards and foley mixer Pete Smith have received the award for the movie musical starring Hugh Jackman, Anne Hathaway, Russell Crowe and Amanda Seyfried. The other contenders in the category were Lincoln (including scoring mixer Shawn Murphy) and Skyfall (including scoring mixer Simon Rhodes), The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey (including scoring mixer Peter Cobbin) and Zero Dark Thirty (including scoring mixer Sam Okell).

Patrick Doyle on Pixar’s ‘Brave’
David Poland from Movie City News has published a 30-minutes video interview with composer Patrick Doyle in his DP/30 series. During the interview, Doyle discusses his work on Brave and how he got involved in his first project for Pixar. The composer also talks about how he got started in the industry (both as an actor and composer), his early film scores and some of his frequent collaborators including Kenneth Branagh and Regis Wargnier. Also discussed is his only collaboration with Garry Marshall on the 1994 film Exit to Eden. Check out the full video interview after the jump. Brave opened in theaters yesterday and Doyle’s soundtrack is available on Walt Disney Records.

Three new movies are opening in wide release this weekend:
Expected to top the weekend box office is Pixar’s 13th full length animated feature Brave directed by Mark Andrews and featuring the voice talent of Kelly MacDonald, Emma Thompson, Craig Ferguson, Robbie Coltrane and Billy Connolly. The film’s score is composed by Patrick Doyle. Walt Disney Records has released a soundtrack featuring the composer’s score, as well as songs from Scottish Gaelic singer Julie Fowlis and a collaboration between folk rock band Mumford and Sons who penned Learn Me Right sung by Birdy. Henry Jackman (X-Men: First Class) has composed the film’s original score. Sony Masterworks has released a soundtrack album featuring the composer’s score. Walt Disney Records to Release Patrick Doyle’s ‘Brave’ Soundtrack
Walt Disney Records will be releasing the official soundtrack album for Pixar’s upcoming animated film Brave. The album features the original score from the movie composed by Patrick Doyle (Thor, Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire, Sense and Sensibility), as well as songs from Scottish Gaelic singer Julie Fowlis and a collaboration between Grammy Award-winning folk rock band Mumford and Sons who penned Learn Me Right sung by Birdy. The soundtrack will be released on June 19, 2012 and is now available for pre-order on Amazon. Check back on this site for audio clips. Patrick Doyle Confirmed to Score Pixar’s ‘Brave’ and ‘Rise of the Apes’
Film Music Reporter has received official confirmation that Patrick Doyle is attached to score the upcoming Pixar animation movie Brave. Pixar’s first fairy tale and first female-driven feature tells the story of an impulsive princess who aims to shed her royal ties and become the world’s first great female archer. It was recenly announced that Kelly Macdonald will be voicing the main character. The film’s voice cast also includes Emma Thompson, Craig Ferguson and Billy Connolly. Brave is directed by Mark Andrews who worked as story supervisor on The Incredibles and Ratatouille. The project marks Doyle’s first collaboration with Pixar. Doyle follows Randy Newman, Thomas Newman and Michael Giacchino as the fourth composer scoring a feature animation film for the studio.
