Dolly Parton to Write Original Songs for ‘Run, Rose, Run’ Film Adaptation
Deadline is reporting that Dolly Parton will write original songs for the upcoming film adaptation of the Academy Award-nominated singer/songwriter’s & James Patterson’s best-selling novel Run, Rose, Run. The book tells the story of young woman who moves to Nashville to pursue her music-making dreams and is taken under the wing of a giant female musical icon. Parton & Patterson are also producing the project with Hello Sunshine’s Reese Witherspoon and Lauren Neustadter (Little Fires Everywhere, The Morning Show).

Premiering today is the Netflix original film Christmas on the Square directed by Debbie Allen and starring Dolly Parton, Christine Baranski, Treat Williams, Jeanine Mason, Josh Segarra, Mary Lane Haskell and Jenifer Lewis. The film’s original music is composed by Dolly Parton (who wrote 14 original songs for the project) and conducted by Larry Blank. The holiday musical, which follows a small town “Scrooge” as she’s visited by a rhinestone-bedazzled angel who guides her on a musical journey of redemption, is now available to stream exclusively on Netflix.
Premiering tomorrow, November 23, is the FX and BBC limited series Black Narcissus developed by Amanda Coe based on the novel of the same title by Rumer Godden and starring Gemma Arterton, Alessandro Nivola, Diana Rigg, Aisling Franciosi, Jim Broadbent, Rosie Cavaliero, Patsy Ferran, Karen Bryson, Nila Aalia, Kulvinder Ghir, Chaneil Kular, Gina McKee, Soumil Malla, Dipika Kunwar,and Gianni Gonsalves. The show’s original music is composed by Anne Dudley (The Full Monty, American History X, The Crying Game, Poldark, The Hustle). Weekly Film Music Roundup (December 7, 2018)
The only nationwide release this weekend is the 25th Anniversary re-release of the drama Schindler’s List directed by Steven Spielberg and starring Liam Neeson, Ben Kingsley and Ralph Fiennes. The film’s original music is composed by John Williams (Star Wars, Jurassic Park, Jaws, Raiders of the Lost Ark, E.T.: The Extra-Terrestrial) who earned his fifth Academy Award for his score. La-La Land Records has recently released a new 2-CD limited edition soundtrack to coincide with the movie’s re-release. Check out our previous news article for the full album details.
Opening in limited release is the drama Vox Lux directed by Brady Corbet and starring Natalie Portman, Jude Law, Cassidy, Stacy Martin, Jennifer Ehle, Christopher Abbott and Willem Dafoe. Scott Walker (The Childhood of a Leader, Pola X) has composed the film’s original score and Sia has written original songs for the movie. ‘Dumplin” Soundtrack Details
Dolly Parton has announced the full details of the soundtrack album for the comedy Dumplin’ this week. The album features the songs from the movie by the Grammy Award-winning and Academy Award-nominated singer/songwriter, including collaborations with Sia (already available to download here), Elle King, Mavis Staples, Miranda Lambert, Willa Amai, Rhonda Vincent, Alison Krauss, Macy Gray and DOROTHY. Linda Perry co-wrote several of the songs and serves as a producer of the album. The soundtrack will be released on November 30 by Sony Music Nashville and will be available for pre-order here.
Dolly Parton’s & Sia’s ‘Here I Am’ from ‘Dumplin” Released
Dolly Records has released the first song from the soundtrack of the upcoming comedy Dumplin’. The track, entitled Here I Am, is performed by Dolly Parton and Sia and is now available to download as a digital single on Amazon. Parton originally wrote the track for her Coat of Many Colors album, which was released in October of 1971. Listen to the full track after the jump. A full soundtrack album featuring six original songs written by Parton & Linda Perry, as well as more newly recorded songs of Parton classics will be released on November 30.
