Sony Classical has announced the album A Gathering of Friends, an all-new recording of two concert works by Academy Award winner John Williams (Star Wars, Raiders of the Lost Ark, Jaws, Jurassic Park, Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone) written for cellist Yo-Yo Ma. Also included are selections of Williams’ film scores from Steven Spielberg’s Schindler’s List, Lincoln and Munich conducted by the composer himself and performed by the New York Philharmonic. The recording also includes special appearances by the Spanish guitarist Pablo Sáinz-Villegas and harpist Jessica Zhou. The album w ill be released digitally and physically on May 20 and is now available for pre-order on Amazon. A first track (Theme from Schindler’s List) is already available to stream/download now. Weekly Film Music Roundup (December 7, 2018)
The only nationwide release this weekend is the 25th Anniversary re-release of the drama Schindler’s List directed by Steven Spielberg and starring Liam Neeson, Ben Kingsley and Ralph Fiennes. The film’s original music is composed by John Williams (Star Wars, Jurassic Park, Jaws, Raiders of the Lost Ark, E.T.: The Extra-Terrestrial) who earned his fifth Academy Award for his score. La-La Land Records has recently released a new 2-CD limited edition soundtrack to coincide with the movie’s re-release. Check out our previous news article for the full album details.
Opening in limited release is the drama Vox Lux directed by Brady Corbet and starring Natalie Portman, Jude Law, Cassidy, Stacy Martin, Jennifer Ehle, Christopher Abbott and Willem Dafoe. Scott Walker (The Childhood of a Leader, Pola X) has composed the film’s original score and Sia has written original songs for the movie. Columbia Records will release a soundtrack album featuring both the score and the songs next Friday, December 14. Click here for the full album details.
‘Schindler’s List’ 25th Anniversary Edition Soundtrack Announced
La-La Land Records has announced a new soundtrack album for Steven Spielberg’s 1993 drama Schindler’s List starring Liam Neeson, Ben Kingsley and Ralph Fiennes. The 25th Anniversary Edition features the expanded original music from the movie composed by John Williams (Star Wars, Jurassic Park, Jaws, Raiders of the Lost Ark, E.T.: The Extra-Terrestrial) who received his fifth Academy Award for his work on the movie. The 2-CD set, which is limited to 4000 copies, includes the content of the 1993 original soundtrack on the first disc and previously unreleased tracks on the second disc. The soundtrack will be available to order next Tuesday, November 27 on the label’s official website.
