PBS announced this week that Johnny Gandelsman, Rhiannon Giddens, Jennifer Kreisberg, David Cieri, Yo-Yo Ma and Richard Evans are contributing music to the upcoming documentary series The American Revolution. The show directed and produced by Ken Burns (Brooklyn Bridge, The Vietnam War, The Statue of Liberty), Sarah Botstein (The U.S. and the Holocaust) & David Schmidt, written by long-time collaborator Geoffrey C. Ward and examines how America’s creation turned the world upside-down. The 6-parter is narrated by Peter Coyote and includes the first-person voices of nearly 200 individual historic figures, read by a cast of actors, including Kenneth Branagh, Josh Brolin, Hugh Dancy, Claire Danes, Jeff Daniels, Alden Ehrenreich, Craig Ferguson, Morgan Freeman, Paul Giamatti, Domhnall Gleeson, Tom Hanks, Ethan Hawke, Maya Hawke, Lucas Hedges, Josh Hutcherson, Samuel L. Jackson, Michael Keaton, Joel Kinnaman, Tracy Letts, Damian Lewis, Laura Linney, Edward Norton, David Oyelowo, Mandy Patinkin, Wendell Pierce, Liev Schreiber, Chaske Spencer, Dan Stevens, Meryl Streep, among others.

John Williams’ & Yo-Yo Ma’s ‘A Gathering of Friends’ Album Announced
Sony Classical has announced the album A Gathering of Friends, an all-new recording of two concert works by Academy Award winner John Williams (Star Wars, Raiders of the Lost Ark, Jaws, Jurassic Park, Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone) written for cellist Yo-Yo Ma. Also included are selections of Williams’ film scores from Steven Spielberg’s Schindler’s List, Lincoln and Munich conducted by the composer himself and performed by the New York Philharmonic. The recording also includes special appearances by the Spanish guitarist Pablo Sáinz-Villegas and harpist Jessica Zhou. The album w ill be released digitally and physically on May 20 and is now available for pre-order on Amazon. A first track (Theme from Schindler’s List) is already available to stream/download now. The Silkroad Ensemble’s & Yo-Yo Ma’s Music from ‘The Vietnam War’ to Be Released
In A Circle Records will release a new soundtrack album for the PBS docu-series The Vietnam War. Tthe album features traditional and popular Vietnamese songs, arranged by members of The Silkroad Ensemble with Yo-Yo Ma, as well as improvisations inspired by the documentary. Also included is an instrumental rendition of We Shall Overcome performed by multi-instrumentalist Vanessa Van-Anh Vo, and Grammy-winning rising star of Folk, Sarah Jarosz. The soundtrack will be released physically on December 8, 2017 and is now available for pre-order on Amazon. Universal Music has previously released two soundtrack albums for the series including the songs and Trent Reznor’s & Atticus Ross’ score from the show.
