Benjamin Wallfisch is reteaming with director David F. Sandberg on the upcoming supernatural thriller Annabelle 2. The film stars Stephanie Sigman, Talitha Bateman, Lulu Wilson, Philippa Anne Coulthard, Grace Fulton, Lou Lou Safran, Samara Lee, Tayler Buck, Anthony LaPaglia and Miranda Otto. The movie follows a dollmaker and his wife who welcome a nun and several girls from a shuttered orphanage into their home, soon becoming the target of the dollmaker’s possessed creation, Annabelle. Gary Dauberman wrote the screenplay. Peter Safran (The Conjuring, Buried) and James Wan (Furious 7, Saw, Insidious) are producing the sequel.

Alexandre Desplat, Nicholas Britell, Benjamin Wallfisch & Justin Hurwitz to Participate in Film Music Roundtable Discussion
A number of film composer will participate in Gold Derby’s first roundtable discussion event focussing on the music and sound of some of this year’s awards contenders in the respective categories. The Meet the Experts panel will be moderated by Tom O’Neill and will take place tomorrow, November 16 at Landmark Theaters in Los Angeles. Participating composers include Alexandre Desplat (The Grand Budapest Hotel, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, The King’s Speech) who is promoting his work for Illumination Entertainment’s hit animated movie The Secret Life of Pets, Nicholas Britell (The Big Short, Free State of Jones) whose most recent score is for the indie hit drama Moonlight, Benjamin Wallfisch (Lights Out, The Escapist) who co-scored Ted Melfi’s upcoming Hidden Figures with Hans Zimmer & Pharrell Williams and Justin Hurwitz (Whiplash) who scored and wrote the songs for Damien Chazelle’s acclaimed movie musical La La Land.

Three new movies are opening nationwide this week:
Expected to top the weekend box office is the fantasy adventure Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children directed by Tim Burton and starring Eva Green, Asa Butterfield and Samuel L. Jackson. The film’s original music is composed by Mike Higham & Matthew Margeson (Eddie the Eagle, Kingsman: The Secret Service, Kick-Ass 2). A soundtrack album featuring the composers’ score will be released digitally within the next few weeks and physically on October 11 on La-La Land Records’ website and October 14 in other stores. Benjamin Wallfisch to Score ‘Rings’

Benjamin Wallfisch has been tapped to score the upcoming horror thriller Rings. The film is directed by F. Javier Gutierrez (Before the Fall) and stars Matilda Lutz, Alex Roe, Johnny Galecki, Aimee Teegarden, Bonnie Morgan and Vincent D’Onofrio. The movie is the third part in the Ring franchise and follows a young woman who becomes worried about her boyfriend when he explores a dark subculture surrounding a mysterious videotape said to kill the watcher seven days after he has viewed it. David Loucka (Dream House), Jacob Estes (Mean Creek) and Akiva Goldsman (A Beautiful Mind, I Am Legend, I, Robot) have written the screenplay.

The movie produced by James Wan follows a young boy and his estranged sister who are confronted by an evil entity that only appears when the lights are out.
Benjamin Wallfisch Scoring Gore Verbinski’s ‘A Cure for Wellness’
Benjamin Wallfisch is currently scoring the upcoming supernatural horror thriller A Cure for Wellness. The film is directed by Gore Verbinski (Pirates of the Caribbean, The Ring) and stars Dane DeHaan, Mia Goth, Jason Isaacs and Celia Imrie. The movie follows a man who is sent to rescue his boss from a European wellness spa and soon realizes that he’s trapped and discovers that the facility has a more sinister purpose than just serving the healthy needs of it patients. Justin Haythe (Revolutionary Road, The Lone Ranger) has written the screenplay. Verbinski is also producing the project with David Crockett and Arnon Milchan (12 Years a Slave, The Revenant, Gone Girl) for New Regency Pictures.
Benjamin Wallfisch Scoring ‘Lights Out’
This week, Benjamin Wallfisch is recording his music for the upcoming horror thriller Lights Out at The Bridge Recording Studios in Glendale, CA. The film is directed by David Sandberg and stars Teresa Palmer, Gabriel Bateman and Alexander DiPersia. The movie is based on the director’s short film of the same title and follows a young boy and his estranged sister who are confronted by an evil entity that only appears when the lights are out. Eric Heisserer (Final Destination 5, The Thing) has written the screenplay and is also producing the New Line Cinema production with James Wan (The Conjuring, Furious 7, Insidious) and Lawrence Grey.
‘Gamba’ Soundtrack Announced
Varese Sarabande will release a soundtrack album for the animated feature Gamba. The album features the film’s original music composed and conducted by Benjamin Wallfisch (The Escapist, Dear Wendy, Desert Dancer, Summer in February) who recorded his score with a full orchestra at Abbey Road Studios. The soundtrack will be released digitally this Friday, October 9 and is now available for pre-order on Amazon. Gamba directed by Tomohiro Kawamura & Yoshihiro Komori and executive produced by Ari Arad (X-Men, Spider-Man) is based on the Japanese children’s book The Adventures of Gamba. The movie follows Gamba, a town mouse with a brave, adventurous spirit who decides to go on an adventure to discover the ocean.

Premiering in the U.S. tonight is the British TV series Home Fires starring Samantha Bond, Francesca Annis, Ed Stoppard, Ruth Gemmell, Claire Rushbrook, Frances Grey, Clare Calbraith and Rachel Hurd-Wood. The show’s original music is composed by Samuel Sim (Awake). Home Fires based on the book Jambusters by Julie Summers is set during World War II and follows a group of inspirational women in a rural Cheshire community.
