UPDATE (May 29, 2011): The release date for physical CD version of the X-Men: First Class soundtrack has been pushed back a week to June 28, 2011, but a digital release will be available to download on May 31 on Amazon. Check out the audio clips from all tracks on the album below.

Sony Masterworks has revealed the details for the upcoming soundtrack release for X-Men: First Class. The album features 20 tracks of Henry Jackman‘s original score for the comic book adaptation. The album will be released on June 21, 2011 and is currently available to pre-order on Amazon. As reported earlier this month, the album is listed to be released overseas on June 6, 2011 at the moment (check out the alternate cover art below). X-Men: First Class directed by Matthew Vaughn tells the origin story of the characters of the X-Men series including Magneto and Professor X. The film’s cast includes James McAvoy, Michael Fassbender, Kevin Bacon, Jennifer Lawrence and Rosamunde Pike. Read the rest of this entry »

Mark Bradshaw has signed on to score the upcoming World War II drama Resistance. The film based on a novel by Owen Sheer takes place  in an alternative 1944, where Russia has fallen to Nazi Germany and the D-Day landings have failed. The story centers on a group of women in an isolated Welsh village who wake up to discover all of the their husbands have mysteriously vanished. The movie is directed by Amit Gupta and stars Andrea Riseborough, Tom Wlaschiha and Michael Sheen. Richard Holmes (Waking Ned Devine, Eden Lake) and Amanda Faber are producing. Rachel Portman was originally attached to score the project as reported by the Hollywood Reporter last fall, but had to leave the production due to a scheduling conflict. Sony Masterworks will release a soundtrack album for the upcoming drama Snow Flower and the Secret Fan. The album includes the original score from the film by Academy Award-winning composer Rachel Portman. The music was recorded at Angel Studios in London. Details on the album’s contents will be published in the next couple of weeks. The soundtrack will be released on July 12, 2011. Visit Amazon to pre-order the album. Snow Flower and the Secret Fan directed by Wayne Wang is set in 19th century China and centers on the lifelong friendship between two girls who develop their own secret code as a way to contend with the rigid cultural norms imposed on women. Varese Sarabande Records has announced the details for the soundtrack release of the drama The First Grader. The album includes Alex Heffes‘ original score from the movie. Heffes’ music features evocative vocals recorded in Kenya. The album will be released on June 14, 2011. To pre-order the soundtrack, visit Amazon. The First Grader directed by Justin Chadwick and starring Naomie Harris and Oliver Litondo is based on the true story of an 84-year-old Kenyan man’s battle to get an education. Mervyn Warren is set to score the gospel-choir comedy Joyful Noise. The film centers on an unlikely partnership between two strong-minded women who are forced to work together to save a small town gospel choir after budget cuts threaten to shut them down. The movie stars Queen Latifah, Dolly Parton, Keke Palmer, Kris Kristofferson, Courtney B. Vance and Jesse L. Martin. Todd Graff (Bandslam, Camp) is writing and directing the film. Warren has already been working on the Alcon Entertainment production for several months, as he is also arranging and producing about a dozen songs for the film and he will next be starting to write the orchestral score. The project will be the first major feature scoring assignment in a while for the composer who has scored such films as The Wedding Planner, A Walk to Remember and Honey. Warner Bros has set a January 12, 2012 release date for Joyful Noise.

The album includes the original chamber score by Gary Yershon from the critically acclaimed drama. Also included on the release is Yershon’s score for Mike Leigh’s previous film Happy-Go-Lucky. Mateo Messina has been hired to score the satirical comedy Butter. The film is set in the Midwest U.S., where an adopted girl discovers her talent for butter carving and finds herself pitted against an ambitious local woman in their town’s annual contest. The movie stars Jennifer Garner, Olivia Wilde, Hugh Jackman, Ty Burrell, Yara Shahidi, Alicia Silverstone, Ashley Greene, Rob Corddry and Kristen Schaal. Varese Sarabande Records has announced a soundtrack release for the family comedy Mr. Popper’s Penguins. The album includes the original score from composer Rolfe Kent, who collaborated on the project with director Mark Waters for the sixth time. The orchestral score was recorded earlier this month on the Fox Alfred Newman scoring stage in Los Angeles. The soundtrack will be released on June 28, 2011 and can be pre-ordered on Amazon. Over the last couple of days, the romance The Artist has been getting a lot of attention at this year’s Cannes Film Festival. Likewise, the film’s music composed by French composer Ludovic Bource has been receiving a lot of praise from critics and might be an early contender for the upcoming Awards season. The black-and-white silent film takes place in 1927 Hollywood and focuses on a silent movie star whose career seems about to be ended because of the arrival of the talkies. At the same time, a pretty young extra sees the new format as an opportunity to launch her star. Klaus Badelt is the new composer of the upcoming sports drama Seven Days in Utopia. He is replacing William Ross, who was originally attached to the project as reported last year. The film starring Robert Duvall, Melissa Leo and Lucas Black tells the story of Luke Chisolm, a talented young golfer set on making the pro tour. When his first big shot turns out to be a very public disaster, Luke escapes the pressures of the game and finds himself unexpectedly stranded in Utopia, Texas.
