John Williams has won the Annie Award in the Music in a Feature Production category for his score for Steven Spielberg’s The Adventures of Tintin at tonight’s 39th Annie Awards ceremony in Los Angeles, which was hosted by Patton Oswalt. The other contenders in the category were Henry Jackman (Puss in Boots), Mikael Mutti, Siedah Garrett, Carlinhos Brown, Sergio Mendes & John Powell (Rio) and Zooey Deschannel, Kristen Anderson-Lopez, Henry Jackman & Robert Lopez (Winnie The Pooh). Three new movies are opening in wide release this weekend:

Opening in most theaters is the supernatural thriller Chronicle directed by Josh Trank and starring Michael B. Jordan, Alex Russell and Ashley Hinshaw. Milan Records has released a soundtrack album featuring 14 electro and indie rock tracks from the movie by artists including Blond Acid Cult, The LongCut, Bad Veins, Simian Mobile Disco, Deastro, Ab & The Sea, Capsule, Congorock and M83. Also opening wide is the gothic horror thriller The Woman in Black directed by James Watkins and starring Daniel Radcliffe, Ciarán Hinds, Janet McTeer, Sophie Stuckey and Liz White. The film’s score is composed by Marco Beltrami. Silva Screen Records will release a soundtrack album featuring the composer’s score digitally next Tuesday, February 7 and the CD version is set for a release on March 27. Julian Wass and Robert Mervak are writing the music for the upcoming romantic action comedy Outrun. The film is directed by Dax Shepard and David Palmer. Shepard has also has written the screenplay and stars in the movie as a former getaway driver living in the Witness Protection Program who breaks out of anonymity in order to drive his girlfriend cross-country to Los Angeles only to find himself chased by cops and his former gang members. Kristen Bell, Bradley Cooper, Tom Arnold, Beau Bridges, Kristin Chenoweth, David Koechner, Michael Rosenbaum, Joy Bryant and Ryan Hansen are also starring in the film. Varese Sarabande has revealed the cover art and track list for the score release of Universal Pictures’ and Illumination Entertainment’s animated feature Dr. Seuss’ The Lorax. The album incudes the original score from the movie by John Powell. The soundtrack will be released on March 6, 2012 and is now available for pre-order on Amazon. Dr. Seuss’ The Lorax directed by Ken Daurio and Cinco Paul revolves around a boy who searches for a way to win the affection of the girl of his dreams and comes across the story of the Lorax, a charming creature who fights to protect his world. Deadline is reporting that composer Alan Silvestri is in early talks to explore a stage transfer of Robert Zemeckis’ 1985 classic Back to the Future. Apart from Silvestri, Zemeckis and his company ImageMovers, as well as Back to the Future producer and writer Bob Gale also appear to be involved in the project. The production would mark the composer’s first Broadway production. Silvestri has been the composer of all Zemeckis-directed films since 1984’s Romancing the Stone, including Forrest Gump, for which he received his first Academy Award nomination and most recently, A Christmas Carol and Beowulf. The composer’s upcoming projects also include Joss Whedon’s comic book adaptation of The Avengers, one of the most anticipated movies of the year.

Coinciding with the 75th birthday of Philip Glass on January 31, several interviews have appeared online, including a 30-minute video conversation with the Academy Award-nominated composer in CET Connect’s Focus series, in which he talks about his life and career, including his work for movies and the concert hall is and the world premiere of his Second Cello Concerto Life Reflected. The article also confirms the composer’s involvement in Oldboy director Chan-woon Park’s Stoker. The film starring Matthew Goode, Mia Wasikowska, Nicole Kidman, Dermot Mulroney and Jacki Weaver marks the director’s English language debut and centers on a teenage girl who must deal with the unexpected appearance of a mysterious uncle following the death of her father. ‘The Innkeepers’ Soundtrack Released

MovieScoreMedia’s Screamworks Records label has released a soundtrack album for the horror thriller The Innkeepers. The album features the original score from the movie by composer Jeff Grace. The soundtrack was released digitally earlier this week and is available to download on iTunes. A limited CD edition is coming out on February 7, 2012 and can be pre-ordered on Screen Archives. ‘Act of Valor’ Soundtrack Details

Relativity Music Group will be releasing the soundtrack album for the war movie Act of Valor. The album features the film’s songs by country artists including Keith Urban, Sugarland, Lady Antebellum, Jake Owen, Trace Adkins, Lori McKenna and Josh Kelley. The soundtrack will be released on February 21, 2012 and is available for pre-order on Amazon. Audio clips can be checked out below. None of Nathan Furst’s original score from the film is included. Act of Valor directed by Scott Waugh & Mike “Mouse” McCoy centers on a group of active-duty Navy SEALs that is sent across the globe as they track the terrorist ring to the U.S.-Mexico border. Director Peter Webber has announced on Twitter (via The Film Stage) that Alexandre Desplat is attached to score the upcoming political thriller Emperor. The movie starring Matthew Fox and Tommy Lee Jones is set in Japan amidst the uncertainties of the days following the nation’s surrender at the end of World War II, when General Douglas MacArthur as the Supreme Commander of the occupying forces and the leading Japanese expert on his staff are faced with the decision if Emperor Hirohito should be tried and hanged as a war criminal. David Klass (Walking Tall) and Vera Blasi are writing the screenplay based on the historic events. Yoko Narahashi (The Last Samurai), Gary Foster (Daredevil, Ghost Rider), Russ Krasnoff (The Soloist) and Eugene Nomura are producing. Desplat has previously collaborated with Webber on 2003’s The Girl with a Pearl Earring, for which the composer received his first Golden Globe nomination and which put him on the map in Hollywood. The album includes the original score from the movie written by Academy Award-winning composer Michael Giacchino.
