Last Friday, the Academy of Motion Pictures Arts and Sciences celebrated the music of the James Bond series at the event The Music of Bond: The First 50 Years at the Samuel Goldwyn Theater in Beverly Hills. The Academy has published a couple of video clips from the event, including guitarist Vic Flick’s live performance of the James Bond theme on the same Clifford Essex Paragon Deluxe he used 50 years ago, as well as an excerpt from the interview with Flick talking about working with composer John Barry on Bond films including Dr. No and Goldfinger. Also embedded is a video clip from the interview with Oscar-winning lyricist Don Black talking about his work with Barry and a story about the theme song for Diamonds Are Forever, as well as an excerpt from the talk with composer Bill Conti on writing the Oscar-nominated title song to For Your Eyes Only. ‘Terra Nova’ Soundtrack Released

La-La Land Records has released a soundtrack album for the sci-fi adventure series Terra Nova. The album features selections from the show’s original score composed by Brian Tyler (Fast Five, Eagle Eye, The Expendables). The composer recorded his score for the full season with a full orchestra. The 2-CD set is limited to 3000 copies and is available to order on the label’s website, where you can also listen to audio clips. Terra Nova executive produced by Brannon Braga and Steven Spielberg and starring Jason O’Mara, Shelly Conn, Stephen Lang, Christine Adams, Allison Miller, Landon Liboiron, Naomi Scott, Rod Hallett and Alana Mansour premiered last fall on FOX. Neil Finn to Provide End Credits Song for ‘The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey’

TheOneRing.Net (via The Playlist) is reporting that Neil Finn will be providing the end credits song for Peter Jackson’s highly anticipated The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey. Finn is best known as the lead singer and guitarist of Crowded House. All of the previous Lord of the Rings films featured original songs in the end credits, including May It Be performed by Enya in The Fellowship of the Ring, Gollum’s Song by Emiliana Torrini in The Two Towers and Into the West by Annie Lennox in The Return of the King. No more details about the songs have been revealed yet. Varese Sarabande to Release Alexandre Desplat’s ‘Rise of the Guardians’ Soundtrack

Varese Sarabande has announced a soundtrack release for Dreamworks Animation’s Rise of the Guardians. The album features the film’s score composed by Alexandre Desplat (The King’s Speech, The Curious Case of Benjamin Button), which the composer recorded at Abbey Road Studios in London. The soundtrack also includes the original song Still Dream performed by Renée Fleming. The album will released on November 13, 2012 and the full details are expected to be revealed within the next couple of weeks. Rise of the Guardians based on the book series The Guardians of Childhood by William Joyce is directed by Peter Ramsey and tells the story of Santa Claus, the Easter Bunny, the Tooth Fairy, the Sandman, and Jack Frost – legendary characters with previously unknown extraordinary abilities.The movie’s voice talent includes Chris Pine, Alec Baldwin, Hugh Jackman, Isla Fisher and Jude Law. Cinema Musica has published an audio preview of Thomas Newman’s soundtrack for Skyfall. As previously reported, the soundtrack will be released in Europe on October 29 and in the US on November 6 by Sony Classical and is now available for pre-order on Amazon. Jagjaguwar will release a soundtrack for Rick Alverson’s The Comedy. The album features the film’s songs by artists including Here We Go Magic, Bill Fay, William Basinski, Gayngs, Amanaz and Donnie & Joe Emerson. The soundtrack will be released digitally on October 24, 2012 and on vinyl on November 19. To pre-order the vinyl version, visit Amazon. The Comedy stars Tim Heidecker and Eric Wareheim (Tim & Eric Awesome Show, Great Job!), as well as James Murphy, Kate Lyn Sheil, Alexia Rasmussen and Gregg Turkington. Lakeshore Records has announced the details of the soundtrack release for Martin McDonagh’s dark comedy thriller Seven Psychopaths. The album features the film’s original score composed by Carter Burwell (Fargo, Twilight) who previously worked with the director on his previous feature In Bruges. Also included are the film’s songs by artists including Hank Williams, P.P. Arnold, The Walkmen, Deer Tick, Josh T. Pearson and more. Marcelo Zarvos is currently scoring the romantic drama Look of Love. The film is directed by Arie Posin and stars Annette Bening, Ed Harris, Robin Williams, Amy Brenneman and Jess Weixler. The movie centers on a widow who meets a man looking exactly like her dead husband, and that connection rekindles old feelings. Posin has also co-written the screenplay with Matthew McDuffie. Julie Lynn (Mother and Child) and Bonnie Curtis (Albert Nobbs) are producing the Mockingbird Pictures production. ‘Retreat’ Soundtrack Announced

Metropolis Music Group has set a US release of the soundtrack for the British thriller Retreat. The album features the film’s original music composed by Ilan Eshkeri (Stardust, Layer Cake). The score features the London Metropolitan Orchestra and Jack Liebeck on violin. The soundtrack will be released digitally on October 16, 2012 and is now available for pre-order on Amazon. The film follows three people isolated from the rest of the world on a remote island, who are told they are survivors of a fatal airborne disease that is sweeping over the entire world. A couple of new shows are premiering on the major networks this week:
Premiering on Wednesday, October 10 is the superhero drama Arrow based on the DC Comics character Green Arrow, executive produced by Greg Berlanti, Mark Guggenheim and Andrew Kreisberg and starring Stephen Amell, Katie Cassidy, Susanna Thompson, Willa Holland and Colin Salmon. The show’s score is composed by Blake Neely (The Mentalist, Everwood, Brothers & Sisters). The composer recorded the music for the pilot with a full 80 piece orchestra at the Warner Bros.
