A couple of new shows are premiering on the major networks this week:

Premiering on Wednesday, October 10 is the superhero drama Arrow based on the DC Comics character Green Arrow, executive produced by Greg Berlanti, Mark Guggenheim and Andrew Kreisberg and starring Stephen Amell, Katie Cassidy, Susanna Thompson, Willa Holland and Colin Salmon. The show’s score is composed by Blake Neely (The Mentalist, Everwood, Brothers & Sisters). The composer recorded the music for the pilot with a full 80 piece orchestra at the Warner Bros. ‘A Late Quartet’ Soundtrack Details

Decca Music will release a soundtrack album for the indie drama A Late Quartet. The album features the film’s music composed by Angelo Badalamenti (Twin Peaks, Blue Velvet) and Beethoven’s Opus 131 performed by the Brentano String Quartet, which plays a key part in the film. Also included is an aria from Erich Wolfgang Korngold’s opera Die tote Stadt. The soundtrack will be released on November 6, 2012 and is now available for pre-order on Amazon. Audio clips are available below. A Late Quartet is directed by Yaron Zilberman and stars Philip Seymour Hoffman, Catherine Keener, Mark Ivanir and Christopher Walken. The movie about a world-renowned string quartet struggling to stay together as they mark their 25th anniversary premiered at the Toronto Film Festival last month and is scheduled to be released in the US on November 2 by eOne Films. ‘Astérix and Obélix: God Save Britannia’ Soundtrack Announced

The details of the soundtrack album for the family adventure movie Astérix and Obélix: God Save Britannia (Astérix et Obélix: Au service de Sa Majesté) have been revealed. The album features the film’s original score composed by Klaus Badelt (Pirates of the Caribbean, Constantine) performed by the London Metropolitan Orchestra, as well as additional music by Cyrille Aufort (Splice) and Christopher Carmichael (Seven Days in Utopia). Also included are two songs by BB Brunes and Travis Hawley’s I Wanna Go Now. The soundtrack will be released digitally on October 15, 2012 and is now available for pre-order on Amazon. ‘Skyfall’ Soundtrack Details

Film Music Reporter has received the track list of the soundtrack album for Skyfall. The album for the 23rd James Bond movie features the film’s original music composed by Thomas Newman. As previously announced, Sony Classical will release the soundtrack overseas on October 29, 2012 and in the US on November 6. To pre-order the CD, visit Amazon. Adele’s title song has been released yesterday and is now available to download here. Check back on this site for audio clips from the album. Skyfall is directed by Sam Mendes and stars Daniel Craig, Javier Bardem, Judi Dench, Naomie Harris, Albert Finney, Ralph Fiennes and Ben Whishaw. Two new movies are opening in wide release this weekend:

Opening in most theaters is the action thriller Taken 2 directed by Olivier Megaton and starring Liam Neeson, Maggie Grace, Famke Janssen and Rade Šerbedžija. The film’s music is composed by Nathaniel Mechaly who previously scored the 2008 original film. A soundtrack album featuring the composer’s score, as well as songs by artists including Phoebe Killdeer and the Short Straws, Kasbah Rockers and College & Electric Youth has been released digitally earlier this week. Also opening wide is the stop-motion animated 3D film Frankenweenie directed by Tim Burton and featuring the voices of Catherine O’Hara, Martin Short and Winona Ryder. The film’s score is composed by Danny Elfman. Walt Disney Records has released two soundtracks, including an album featuring the composer’s score. ‘The Impossible’ Soundtrack Details

Quartet Records has announced the details of the soundtrack album for the drama The Impossible (Lo Imposible). The album features the film’s original music composed and conducted by Fernando Velazquez (Devil) who previously scored director J.A. Bayona’s 2007 hit film The Orphanage. The music was recorded at Abbey Road Studios in London and performed by The London Metropolitan Orchestra & Kup Tadea Choir. The soundtrack is now available to order as an import on the label’s website, where you can also listen to audio clips from the score. The Impossible starring Ewan McGregor, Naomi Watts and Tom Holland is based on the true story about a family caught in mayhem of the tsunami that hit the coast of Thailand in 2004. The movie premiered last month at the Toronto Film Festival and will be released in the US on December 21, 2012 by Summit Entertainment. Read the rest of this entry »

Behind the Music of NBC’s ‘Revolution’

A behind-the-scenes look at the music for NBC’s sci-fi drama Revolution has been published today. The video features an interview with the show’s composer Christopher Lennertz (Horrible Bosses, Hop, Supernatural), as well footage from the recording sessions of the score. The music is recorded weekly with a full orchestra at the Warner Bros. Eastwood Scoring Stage in Burbank. Revolution created by created by Eric Kripke, produced by J.J. Abrams and starring Billy Burke, Tracy Spiridako, Anna Lise Phillips, Elizabeth Mitchell, Zak Orth and Giancarlo Esposito recently premiered on NBC and was the network’s top-rated drama debut in several years, as well as this season’s highest rated new series. ‘Skyfall’ Soundtrack Update

The cover art for the soundtrack album for the latest James Bond installment Skyfall has been published. The album featuring the film’s original music composed by Thomas Newman will be released overseas on October 29, 2012 and in the US on November 6 by Sony Classical. To pre-order the CD, visit Amazon. The full track list is expected to be published in the next couple of days. In related news, Yahoo! Movies has posted the first clip from the movie, which appears to feature some of Newman’s score. Composer Panels at New York Comic Con 2012

Two composer panels have been announced for next week’s New York Comic Con. During the Setting the Score: Composing for Film & TV panel, science fiction, fantasy and horror composers will discuss the behind the scenes work in scoring for film and television. Panelists include Kevin Manthei  (Invader Zim, Justice League: New Frontier), Dino Meneghin (MTV’s Teen Wolf), Frederik Wiedmann (Green Lantern: The Animated Series), Fall On Your Sword (Another Earth, Nobody Walks) and Jay Vincent (Ninjago). The panel will be moderated by Matthew Patches (Editor, Hollywood.com) and will take place on Friday, October 12 at the Javits Center in Room 1A01 from 11:00 am – 12:00 pm. Summit Entertainment, Chop Shop Records and Atlantic Records have announced the track list of the soundtrack album for The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn – Part 2. The album features the songs from and inspired by the film by artists including Passion Pit, Ellie Goulding, Green Day, Feist, The Boom Circuits, St. Vincent, Iko, A Boy and His Kite and Christina Perri. Also included is one track from the film’s original score by Carter Burwell. The soundtrack will be released on November 13, 2012 and is now available for pre-order on Amazon.
