Alec Puro to Score ‘The Scribbler’

Alec Puro has been hired to score the upcoming thriller The Scribbler. The film is directed by John Suits (Breathing Room) and stars Katie Cassidy as a young woman who is confronting her destructive mental illness using an experimental machine designed to eliminate multiple personalities. Garret Dillahunt, Michelle Trachtenberg, Eliza Dushku, Michael Imperioli, Gina Gershon, Billy Campbell and Sasha Grey are also starring. The movie is based on the graphic novel by Dan Schaffer who has adapted the material for the screen. Gabriel Cowan and Ken F. Levin are producing the New Arts Alliance and Caliber Media production. Jonathan Morali Scoring ‘Möbius’

Jonathan Morali is the composer of the upcoming French romance thriller Möbius. The film is written and directed by Eric Rochant and stars Jean Dujardin (The Artist) as an experienced spy who is tracking a powerful oligarch suspected of laundering money through his bank. Cecile de France (Hereafter), Tim Roth and John Lynch are co-starring in the movie, which is set in Monte Carlo. Eric Juherian, Mathias Rubin and Christophe Cervoni are producing the Recifilms, Axel Films and Les Productions du Tresor production in association with Luc Besson’s EuropaCorp. Morali is best known as the frontman of the French band Syd Matters. Möbius marks his film scoring debut. The thriller is set for a release in France on February 27, 2013. Three new movies opened wide this past Wednesday:

Opening in most theaters this holiday weekend is Dreamworks Animation’s Rise of the Guardians directed by Peter Ramsey and featuring the voice talent of Chris Pine, Alec Baldwin, Hugh Jackman, Isla Fisher and Jude Law. The film’s music is composed by Alexandre Desplat. Varese Sarabande Records has released a soundtrack album featuring the composer’s score, as well as the original song Still Dream performed by Renée Fleming and composed by Desplat. Also opening wide is the 3D adventure movie Life of Pi directed by Ang Lee and starring Suraj Sharma, Shravanthi Sainath, Tabu and Gerard Depardieu. The film’s music is composed by Mychael Danna who has previously scored the director’s The Ice Storm and Ride with the Devil. Focus Features has published the complete scores of its major awards contenders this season. Among the titles is Gus Van Sant’s drama Promised Land, which features music composed by Danny Elfman. The film starring Matt Damon, John Krasinski, Rosemarie DeWitt, Hal Holbrook, Scoot McNairy, Titus Welliver and Frances McDormand also features an original song, Snake Eyes, written by Kenneth A. La-La Land Records has announced three new limited soundtrack editions. First up is a release of the expanded score for the 1995 action thriller sequel Die Hard With A Vengeance directed by John McTiernan and starring Bruce Willis, Samuel L. Jackson and Jeremy Irons. The 2CD-set feature the score composed by Michael Kamen (Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves, Lethal Weapon) as written for the film, as well as several rejected cues. The album is limited to 4000 copies. The Newton Brothers have signed on to score the dark comedy Pawn Shop Chronicles. The film is directed by Wayne Kramer and stars Paul Walker, Matt Dillon, Brendan Fraser, Elijah Wood, Vincent D’Onofrio, Pell James, Thomas Jane, Lukas Haas, Chi McBride, Ashlee Simpson, Kevin Rankin, DJ Qualls, Michael Cudlitz and Norman Reedus. The movie centers on a missing wedding ring which leads to a wild-goose chase involving meth addicts, skinheads and an Elvis impersonator. Walker is also producing the film with Jordan Schur & David Mimran (Stone, Henry’s Crime), Nick Thurlow and Steven Schneider (Insidious, The Bay). Adam Minarovich has written the screenplay. Ghostlight Records will release the official cast recording album for the Broadway musical Leap of Faith. The album features the musical’s songs composed by multiple Academy Award-winning composer Alan Menken (Beauty and the Beast, The Little Mermaid) and lyrics by Glenn Slater. Leap of Faith is based on the 1992 film of the same name starring Steve Martin (and featuring a score by Cliff Eidelman) and centers on a con man who is posing as a man of faith and who is redeemed by the love of a good woman. Michael Wandmacher is scoring the upcoming horror sequel The Last Exorcism Part II. The film is directed by Ed Gass-Donnelly (Small Town Murder Song) and stars Ashley Bell who is found alone and terrified in the woods after the events from the previous movie. Gass-Donnelly has also co-written the screenplay with Damien Chazelle. Eli Roth (Hostel, Cabin Fever) returns to produce the sequel alongside Eli Roth alongside Marc Abraham, Thomas A. Bliss & Eric Newman (Children of MenDawn of the Dead) for Strike Entertainment. Roth’s regular musical collaborator Nathan Barr (Hostel, True Blood) has previously scored the 2010 original film in the series. Read the rest of this entry »

Alex Ebert has been hired to score the upcoming adventure drama All is Lost. The film is written and directed by J.C. Chandor and stars Robert Redford as a man who gets lost at sea and struggles against the elements to stay alive. Neal Dodson & Anna Gerb (Margin Call), Justin Nappi (Arbitrage) and Teddy Schwarzman (At Any Price) are producing the Before The Door Pictures and Washington Square Films production. The movie marks Chandor’s second film following last year’s critically acclaimed Margin Call, which featured a score by Nathan Larson. Ebert is best known as the lead singer and songwriter for L.A. indie rock band Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeros. The project marks his film scoring debut. All is Lost is currently in post-production and is expected to be released next year by Lionsgate. (Variety)

Henry Jackman has been tapped to score the upcoming drama Captain Phillips. The film is directed by Paul Greengrass and stars Tom Hanks as the skipper of the cargo ship Maersk Alabama who alloweed himself to be taken hostage by Somali pirates in 2009 in order to guarantee the safety of his crew. Catherine Keener and Max Martini are co-starring. The movie is based on the memoir A Captain’s Duty: Somali Pirates, Navy SEALs, and Dangerous Days at Sea by Captain Richard Phillips and was adapted for the screen by Billy Ray (Breach, Flightplan). Scott Rudin (No Country for Old Men), Michael De Luca & Dana Brunetti (The Social Network, 21) and Kevin Spacey are producing the project. Greengrass’ previous four features (The Bourne Supremacy & Ultimatum, United 93, Green Zone) were scored by John Powell. Read the rest of this entry »
