Atli Örvarsson has taken over scoring duties on the fantasy adventure The Mortal Instruments: City of Bones. The film is directed by Harald Zwart and stars Lily Collins, Jamie Campbell Bower, Lena Headey, Jonathan Rhys Meyers, Aidan Turner, Robert Sheehan, Kevin Durand and Jared Harris. The movie is based on the first book of the bestselling Young Adult book series The Mortal Instruments by Cassandra Clare and follows a teen who discovers she is the descendant of a line of Shadowhunters, a secret cadre of young half-angel warriors locked in an ancient battle to protect our world from demons. Jessica Postigo has adapted the material for the screen. Michael Giacchino to Score Brad Bird’s ‘Tomorrowland’

Michael Giacchino confirmed during a Q&A at a concert featuring the world premiere performance of his Star Trek score performed live to projection in Lucerne, Switzerland this weekend that he is attached to score Brad Bird’s upcoming sci-fi adventure Tomorrowland. The film is set to star George Clooney and Hugh Laurie. Plot details are being kept under wraps, but according to Hitfix, the movie is supposed to follow a “teenage girl, a genius middle-aged manand a pre-pubescent girl robot who attempt to get to and unravel what happened to Tomorrowland, which exists in an alternative dimension, in order to save Earth”. Damon Lindelof (Lost, Prometheus) is writing the screenplay with Bird based on a concept by himself and Jeff Jensen and is also producing the project with Bird. Tomorrowland will mark the composer’s fourth collaboration with Bird following Pixar’s The Incredibles & Ratatouille and Mission: Impossible – Ghost Protocol. Read the rest of this entry »
Brett Detar Scoring William Brent Bell’s ‘Wer’

Brett Detar is composing the score for the upcoming horror feature Wer. The film is directed by William Brent Bell and stars A.J. Cook, Simon Quarterman, Vic Sahay, Sebastian Roché and Brian J. O’Connor. The movie is set in Paris and follows s defense attorney who is looking to clear her client who is a suspect in a slaying of a vacationing American family. Bell wrote the screenplay with Matthew Peterman who is also producing the FilmDistrict, Sierra/Affinity and Incentive Filmed Entertainment Fund production with Steven Schneider (Insidious, The Bay) and Morris Paulson. Two new movies are opening nationwide this weekend:
Expected to top the weekend box office is the sports drama 42 written and directed by Brian Helgeland and stars Chadwick Boseman, Harrison Ford, Nicole Beharie, Alan Tudyk, Christopher Meloni, Ryan Merriman, Brad Beyer and T.R. Knight. The film’s original score is composed by Mark Isham (Crash, A River Runs Through It). WaterTower Music has released two soundtracks, including an album featuring the songs from the movie and a track from Isham’s score (click here for our announcement including audio clips), as well as an album featuring the composer’s score (audio clips and the full details are available here). James L. Venable (Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back, EuroTrip) has composed the film’s score. Lakeshore Records will release a soundtrack album featuring the songs from the film by artists including Hyper Crush, Latief Scott, Bellringer, Blind Truth featuring Georgia Harris and Tarik NuClothes on April 23. Jóhann Jóhannsson has been hired to score the upcoming dramatic thriller Prisoners. The film is directed by Denis Villeneuve (Incendies) and stars Hugh Jackman, Melissa Leo, Jake Gyllenhaal, Paul Dano, Viola Davis, Maria Bello, Terrence Howard and David Dastmalchian. The movie follows a small-town carpenter whose young daughter and best friend are kidnapped and discovers that elderly neighbors have been kidnapping and murdering children for years. Aaron Guzikowski (Contraband) has written the screenplay. Andrew Kosove & Broderick Johnson (The Blind Side, Insomnia, The Book of Eli) are producing for Alcon Entertainment, along with Kira Davis for 8:38 Productions and Adam Kolbrenner for Madhouse Entertainment. Bear McCreary’s ‘Da Vinci’s Demons’ Theme to Be Released

Composer Bear McCreary (Battlestar Galactica, The Walking Dead) has launched his own record label Sparks & Shadows and announced the first couple of releases. Coming out on April 12, 2013 as a digital single is his main theme for the new Starz original series Da Vinci’s Demons. The single will be released on April 12 and is now available for pre-order on Amazon. A full soundtrack album will be available digitally to coincide with the season one finale and a limited edition CD, with exclusive bonus content, is planned for the summer. Da Vinci’s Demons created by David S. Goyer and starring Tom Riley, Laura Haddock, Lucrezia Donati, Elliot Cowan, Lorenzo Medici and Lara Pulver premieres this Friday, April 12 on Starz. Justin Burnett is currently scoring the upcoming action crime thriller Getaway. The movie is directed by Courtney Solomon (An American Haunting) and Yaron Levy and stars Ethan Hawke, Selena Gomez and Jon Voight. The film follows a burned out race car driver forced to get behind the wheel for a criminal scheme when his wife is kidnapped. Gregg Maxwell Parker and Sean Finegan wrote the script and Solomon is producing the project with Moshe Diamant (The Black Dahlia, Tristan + Isolde) and Chris Milburn.
