Silva Screen Records has announced a soundtrack release for the BBC series Luther. The album features selections from the show’s original score of the first three seasons composed by Paul Englishby (An Education, Miss Pettigrew Lives for a Day), as well as songs featured in the series by artists including Massive Attack, Nina Simone, Emiliana Torrini, Marilyn Manson, The Heavy, Kasabian and Suede. The soundtrack will be released overseas on September 9, 2013. No word yet on a domestic release. Luther created by Neil Cross and executive produced by Phillippa Giles stars Idris Elba as near-genius detective John Luther. The BBC and BBC America co-production premiered in 2010. Paul Grabowsky Scoring ‘Words and Pictures’

Paul Grabowsky has reteamed with director Fred Schepisi (The Russia House, Roxanne, Six Degrees of Separation) to score the director’s upcoming romantic comedy drama Words and Pictures. The film starring Clive Owen and Juliette Binoche takes place at an insular New England prep school and follows an English teacher who challenges the school’s art teacher to a “war” between words and pictures and in the process, sparks an unlikely romance. Gerald DiPego (Phenomenon, The Forgotten, Message in a Bottle) has written the screenplay and is also producing the Latitude Productions and Lascaux Films production with Schepisi and Curtis Burch. Grabowsky and Schepisi have previously collaborated on such films as Last Orders, It Runs in the Family, Empire Falls and The Eye of the Storm. Words and Pictures is set to premiere next month at the Toronto International Film Festival.

Four new movies are opening in wide release this weekend:
Expected to top the weekend box office is the drama The Butler starring Forest Whitaker, Oprah Winfrey, John Cusack, Jane Fonda, Cuba Gooding Jr., Terrence Howard, Mariah Carey, Lenny Kravitz, James Marsden, David Oyelowo, Vanessa Redgrave, Alan Rickman, Liev Schreiber and Robin Williams. The film’s original music is composed by Rodrigo Leão (Lisbon Story). Verve International has released a soundtrack album featuring the composer’s score earlier this year. Also opening wide is the superhero action comedy sequel Kick-Ass 2 directed by Jeff Wadlow and starring Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Chloë Grace Moretz, Jim Carrey, Christopher Mintz-Plasse, Donald Faison, Clark Duke, John Leguizamo and Morris Chestnut. Sony Classical has released a soundtrack album featuring the film’s songs by artists (click here for the full details and audio clips). The film’s original score is composed by Henry Jackman (X-Men: First Class) and Matthew Margeson (Skyline). ‘About Time’ Soundtrack Details

Decca Records will release a soundtrack album for the upcoming romantic comedy About Time. The album features the songs from the film, including the original song How Long Will I Love You by Ellie Goulding, as well as tracks by Ben Folds, The Cure, Amy Winehouse, Paul Buchanan, The Killers, T.A.T.U. and Arvo Pärt. Also included is a cue from the film’s original score composed by Nick Laird-Clowes. The soundtrack will be released in the UK on September 2, 2013 and in the U.S. on October 28, 2013. Dave Porter to Score Fox’s ‘Wayward Pines’

Dave Porter has been hired to score the upcoming event series Wayward Pines. The show is created by Chad Hodge (The Playboy Club, Runaway) and stars Matt Dillon, Shannyn Sossamon, Terrence Howard, Carla Gugino, Juliette Lewis, Toby Jones and Melissa Leo. The series follows a Secret Service agent Ethan Burke who arrives in the bucolic town of Wayward Pines, Idaho, on a mission to find two missing federal agents. M. Night Shyamalan (The Sixth Sense, Signs) is directing the pilot episode and is also executive producing the project with Hodge, Donald De Line (The Italian Job, Green Lantern) and Ashwin Rajan. ‘Adore’ Soundtrack Details

Varese Sarabande has revealed the details of the soundtrack album for the drama Adore. The album features the film’s original music composed and conducted by Christopher Gordon (Master and Commander, Daybreakers). Also included is additional music by Antony Partos (Animal Kingdom). The soundtrack will be released on September 24, 2013 and is now available for pre-order on Amazon. Check out audio clips after the jump. Adore is directed by Anne Fontaine (Coco Before Chanel) and stars Naomi Watts and Robin Wright as two lifelong friends whose deep friendship is tested when they engage in affairs with each other’s sons. Varese Sarabande has announced the details of the soundtrack album for the coming-of-age drama Standing Up. The album features the film’s original score composed by Brian Tyler (Iron Man 3, Now You See Me, Fast Five). The soundtrack will be released physically on September 24, 2013 and is now available for pre-order on Amazon. Audio clips will be added to this article soon. Standing Up is directed by D.J. Caruso who previously worked with Tyler on Eagle Eye and stars Chandler Canterbury, Annalise Basso, Radha Mitchell and Val Kilmer. The movie follows two kids at summer camp who fall victims to a prank that leaves them stranded at Goat Island. Gustavo Santaolalla has taken over scoring duties on the upcoming drama August: Osage County. The movie is directed by John Wells (The Company Men) and features and all-star cast including Meryl Streep, Julia Roberts, Chris Cooper, Margo Martindale, Juliette Lewis, Abigail Breslin, Ewan McGregor, Julianne Nicholson, Benedict Cumberbatch, Dermot Mulroney, Misty Upham and Sam Shepard. The film is based on the Pulitzer Prize- and Tony Award-winning play by Tracy Letts (Bug, Killer Joe) and follows the strong-willed women of the Weston family, whose lives have diverged until a family crisis brings them back to the Midwest house they grew up in. Letts has also written the screenplay. Harvey Weinstein and Jean Doumanian (Sweet and Lowdown) are producing the film with George Clooney & Grant Heslov (Argo, Good Night, and Good Luck). Island Records will release a soundtrack album for the British comedic thriller Filth. The album features three tracks from the film’s original score composed by Clint Mansell (Black Swan, Requiem for a Dream, Moon). Also included are the film’s songs by artists including Billy Ocean, The Shirelles, Tom Jones, Otis Blackwell, David Soul, Wilson Pickett, The Third Degree and Clarence Carter. The soundtrack will be released overseas on September 23, 2013. Filth is written and directed by Jon S. Baird (Green Street Hooligans) and stars James McAvoy, Jamie Bell, Jim Broadbent, Eddie Marsan, Imogen Poots and Joanne Frogatt. The movie is based on a novel by Trainspotting author Irvine Welsh and follows an Edinburgh police detective who is manipulating everyone who stands in his way of securing a job promotion and winning back his family and daughter.
