Only one new movie is opening nationwide this weekend:
Opening in more than 2000 theaters is the comedy The Black Man Holiday directed by Malcolm D. Lee and starring Taye Diggs, Nia Long, Morris Chestnut, Harold Perrineau, Terrence Howard, Sanaa Lathan, Monica Calhoun, Melissa De Sousa and Regina Hall. Stanley Clarke (Passenger 57) who has previously collaborated with Lee on such films as Undercover Brothers, Soul Men and the original The Best Man film has composed the movie’s original score. RCA Records has released a soundtrack album featuring the Christmas-themed songs from the film by artists including Jordin Sparks, R. Kelly, Mary J. Blige, Fantasia, Ne-Yo and Emeli Sande. Opening in New York and Los Angeles before expanding to more cities within the next couple of weeks is the comedy drama Nebraska directed by Alexander Payne and starring Bruce Dern, Will Forte, Stacy Keach, June Squibb and Bob Odenkirk. The film’s music is composed by Mark Orton (The Good Girl) of the Californian acoustic chamber music group Tin Hat. Varese Sarabande will release a soundtrack album for the thriller Hours. The album features the film’s original score composed and conducted by Benjamin Wallfisch (The Escapist, Dear Wendy, Summer in February). One World Studios will release a soundtrack album for the horror thriller I Am ZoZo. The album features the film’s original score composed by BC Smith (Beer League, The Mod Squad, Outsourced). Also included are the songs from the film by Sun Kil Moon, London Below and Windsor For The Derby and more. The soundtrack will be released digitally on November 19, 2013 and is now available for pre-order on
Austin Wintory is currently scoring the upcoming supernatural horror thriller Dark Summer. The film is directed by Paul Solet and stars Peter Stormare, Stella Maeve, Grace Phipps, Keir Gilchrist and Maestro Harrel. The movie follows a 17-year-old boy who is placed under house arrest for the summer while his mother is away on business. Mike Le (K-Town web series) has written the script. Ross M. Dinerstein (The Pact, The Divide, Powder Blue) is producing the project for Preferred Film & TV and Jamie Carmichael (Black Book, Splinter) is executive producing for Content Film. The composer has previously collaborated with Solet on the horror thriller Grace, which premiered at the 2009 Sundance Film Festival.
Lionsgate and Motown Records have announced soundtrack album for the holiday comedy Tyler Perry’s A Madea Christmas. The album features the songs from the film by artists including Smokey Robinson & The Miracles, Stevie Wonder, the Jackson 5, Boyz II Men & Brian McKnight, Mariah Carey, James Brown, Pearl Bailey, Kelly Rowland, Ashanti and Jeremih. Steve Jablonsky and Nathan Whitehead have signed on to compose the music for the upcoming TNT original series The Last Ship. Jablonsky is composing the main themes and Whitehead is providing the score for the show created by Hank Steinberg (Without a Trace) and Steven Kane (The Closer) and starring Eric Dane, Rhona Mitra, Adam Baldwin and Tracy Middendorf. The drama opens with a global catastrophe that nearly decimates the world’s population and follows the crew of a lone naval destroyer who must find a way to pull humanity from the brink of extinction. Michael Bay is producing the project with his Platinum Dunes partners Brad Fuller and Andrew Form (A Nightmare on Elm Street, The Amityville Horror), alongside Steinberg and Kane.
Republic Records will release the official soundtrack album for Ben Stiller’s fantasy comedy drama The Secret Life of Walter Mitty. Music Box Records has announced a new soundtrack album for Adrianne Lyne’s 1997 film adaptation of Vladmir Nabokov’s novel Lolita starring Jeremy Irons Dominique Swain, Melanie Griffith and Frank Langella. The album features the film’s original music composed, orchestrated and conducted by Academy Award winner Ennio Morricone (The Good, the Bad and the Ugly, The Mission, Once Upon a Time in America), including 35 minutes of previously unreleased material. Mac Quayle has been hired to score the upcoming horror comedy L.A. Slasher. The film is written and directed by Martin Owen and stars Mischa Barton, Eric Roberts, Dave Bautista, Danny Trejo, Drake Bell and Brooke Hogan. The movie is a satirical take on the horror genre set against the celebrity obsessed world of modern day Los Angeles. Daniel Sollinger is producing the project.
Quayle has previously scored the Netflix series Bad Samaritans and co-composed the music for the drama A Belfast Story starring Colm Meaney with Nick Glennie-Smith. He also collaborated with Cliff Martinez as an additional music composer and music programmer on a number of projects.
