Cosmos Studios Music will release the third soundtrack album for the Fox docu-series Cosmos: A Spacetime Odyssey executive produced by Seth MacFarlane, Ann Druyan, Mitchell Cannold & Brannon Braga and hosted by astrophysicist Neil deGrasse Tyson. The Volume 3 soundtrack features more music from the show composed by Alan Silvestri (Forrest Gump, The Avengers, Back to the Future). The album will be released on April 29, 2014 and is now available for pre-order on Amazon. Check out audio clips after the jump. The label has previously released a Volume 1 and Volume 2 soundtrack. Thomas Newman to Return for ‘The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel 2’

Thomas Newman is set to return to compose the score for the comedy drama sequel The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel 2. The film is directed by John Madden (Shakespeare in Love) and reunites the cast of the original film including Judi Dench, Maggie Smith, Bill Nighy, Dev Patel, Celia Imrie, Ronald Pickup, Penelope Wilton, Diana Hardcastle, Tena Desae and Lillete Dubey. They are joined by Richard Gere, David Strathairn and Tamsin Greig. Ol Parker (Imagine Me & You) who scripted the original film has written the screenplay based on a story by himself and Madden. Quartet Records has announced the world premiere soundtrack release for the 1988 family adventure Mac and Me directed by Stewart Raffill and starring Jade Calegory, Christine Ebersole, Jonathan Ward, Katrina Caspary and Lauren Stanley. The album features the film’s original music composed and conducted by Alan Silvestri (Back to the Future, Forrest Gump, The Avengers, The Croods). In addition to the score, the album also features two pop songs the composer wrote for the Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer (MGM) release. ‘Nashville’ Season 2 – Volume 2 Soundtrack Announced

Big Machine Records has announced a new soundtrack album for the ABC drama Nashville. The Music of Nashville – Season 2 – Vol. 2 will feature songs from the show performed by cast members including Connie Britton, Hayden Panettiere, Charles Esten, Sam Palladio, Clare Bowen, Will Chase, Jonathan Jackson, Aubrey Peeples, Chris Carmack and Lennon & Maisy Stella. The soundtrack will be released on May 6, 2014 and is now available for pre-order on Amazon. The album will be available as a standard version and a special deluxe edition featuring ten additional tracks will be available exclusively at Target. The label has previously released two soundtracks for the first season of the series and another soundtrack for the second season. Jeff Beal to Score CBS’ ‘Extant’

Jeff Beal has signed on to score the upcoming CBS sci-fi drama Extant. The show is created by Mickey Fisher and stars Halle Berry as an astronaut who returns home from a year-long solo mission in space and tries to reconnect with her husband and son in their everyday life. Goran Visnjic, Pierce Gagnon, Hiroyuki Sanada, Camryn Manheim, Grace Gummer and Michael O’Neill are co-starring. Three new movies are opening wide this weekend:
Opening in most theaters is the comedy The Other Woman directed by Nick Cassavetes and starring Cameron Diaz, Leslie Mann, Nikolaj Coster-Waldau, Kate Upton, Taylor Kinney and Nicki Minaj. Aaron Zigman (Bridge to Tarabithia, The Proposal) who previously collaborated with the directors on such movies as John Q, The Notebook and My Sister’s Keeper has composed the film’s original score. Also opening wide this weekend is the horror thriller The Quiet Ones directed by John Pogue and starring Jared Harris, Sam Claflin, Erin Richards, Rory Fleck-Byrne and Olivia Cooke. The film’s original music is composed and performed by Lucas Vidal (Fast & Furious 6, The Raven). Varese Sarabande has released a soundtrack album featuring the composer’s music, as well as songs by The Noizeby Slade and T.Rex and three original Radio Caroline jingles from the 70s. Sony Music will release a soundtrack album for the 3D-animated musical Legends of Oz: Dorothy’s Return. The album features the songs from the film written by Bryan Adams, Tift Merritt, Jim Vallance, Jim Dooley & Mike Himelstein and performed by the movie’s voice cast including Lea Michele, Martin Short, Hugh Dancy and Megan Hilty. Also included are selections from the film’s original score composed by Toby Chu (Covert Affairs, Burn Notice). The soundtrack will be released on May 6, 2014 and is now available for pre-order on Amazon. Legends of Oz: Dorothy’s Return is directed by Daniel St. Pierre & Will Finn and also features the voices of Dan Aykroyd, Jim Belushi, Kelsey Grammer, Oliver Platt, Patrick Stewart and Bernadette Peters. The movie is based on the adventure books by Roger Stanton Baum, the great-grandson of L.
