La-La Land Records will release a soundtrack album for the action sequel The Expendables 3. The album features the film’s original music composed by Brian Tyler (Iron Man 3, Thor: The Dark World, Fast & Furious, Now You See Me) who previously scored the first two installments in the series. The soundtrack will be released physically on August 26, 2014 and will be available for pre-order here. The digital release is expected to come out earlier in August through Lionsgate Records, but details have yet to be confirmed. Check back on this page for more information. Marco Beltrami to Score ‘True Story’

Marco Beltrami has signed on to score the upcoming drama True Story. The film is directed by Rupert Goold and stars Jonah Hill, James Franco, Felicity Jones, Ethan Suplee and Gretchen Mol. The movie is based on journalist Michael Finkel’s memoirs about the relationship between Finkel and Christian Longo, a Most Wanted List murderer who for years lived outside the U.S. under Finkel’s name. David Kajganich (The Invasion) has written the screenplay. Brad Pitt, Dede Gardner & Jeremy Kleiner (12 Years a Slave, The Tree of Life, Killing Them Softly) are producing the Plan B Entertainment and New Regency Pictures production. Charles Bernstein Rejoins Academy Board

The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences has announced that composer Charles Bernstein has rejoined the Academy’s Board of Governors after a hiatus. He joins composers Charles Fox and Arthur Hamilton as a governor for the Academy’s music branch. The Academy’s 17 branches are represented by three governors, who may serve up to three consecutive three-year terms. Francis Lai to Receive Lifetime Achievement Award at Ghent Film Festival

Francis Lai has been selected as the recipient of the Lifetime Achievement award at the closing-night gala of the 14th World Soundtrack Awards at the Ghent Film Fest on October 25, 2014. The composer is best known for his score for 1970’s Love Story, for which he received an Academy Award, as well as a Golden Globe and Grammy Award nomination. His other scoring credits include such titles as A Man and a Woman, Bilitis, Live for Life and Dark Eyes. Selections of the composer’s music will be performed live by the Brussels Philharmonic conducted by Dirk Brosse at the event. Among the composers that were previously honored with the award are John Barry, Marvin Hamlisch, Pino Donaggio Giorgio Moroder and Angelo Badalamenti. In addition, Jef Neve’s music for the Flemish drama series In Flanders Fields will also be performed at the World Soundtrack Awards, accompanied by footage from the show. Daniel Pemberton has been hired to score the upcoming film adaptation of The Man from U.N.C.L.E. The film is directed by Guy Ritchie and stars Henry Cavill, Armie Hammer, Alicia Vikander, Hugh Grant, Elizabeth Debicki, Luca Calvani and Jared Harris. The spy action comedy is based on the 1960 television series and tells the origin story of the first pairing of the two spies — one American, one Russian – who up on a joint mission to stop a mysterious international criminal organization, which is bent on destabilizing the fragile balance of power through the proliferation of nuclear weapons and technology. Ritchie has also written the screenplay with Lionel Wigram (Sherlock Holmes) who is producing the project with John Davis (Predator, The Firm, I, Robot, Chronicle). Pemberton’s previous scoring credits include Ridley Scott’s The Counselor, the horror thriller The Awakening, this year’s comedy Cuban Fury and the British comedy series Peep Show. Jeremy Zuckerman and Benjamin Wynn are participating in the PlayFest in Malaga. The third edition of the Music, Animation and Videogames Festival will feature a concert spotlighting the music of the hit animated series Avatar: The Last Airbender, which the composers scored together. Also featured on the festival program will be another concert for the animated show The Legend of Korra, which Zuckerman has been scoring since 2012. The festival, which is dedicated to one of the fastest growing industries today and will bring together leading artists, composers and companies to participate in master classes, conferences, screenings and concerts, will take place from September 11 to September 14 in Malaga. ‘Dexter’ Season 8 Soundtrack Details

Milan Records will release a soundtrack for the eighth seaon of the Showtime original series Dexter. The album features selections of the original score from the show’s final season composed by Daniel Licht who has been scoring the drama since the first season. Also included are two original songs produced by Licht and performed by Jon Licht and David Poe, as well as live tracks from the Dexter Live concert. Also featured is Rolfe Kent’s main titles theme and the song Make Your Own Kind of Music performed by Mama Cass. The soundtrack will be released on July 29, 2014 and is now available for pre-order on Amazon. The label has previously released soundtracks for the previous seven seasons. The Battered Bastards of Baseball is directed by Chapman & Maclain Way and features appearances by Kurt Russell and director Todd Field (Little Children) who is currently developing a narrative feature based on the material. The movie tells the true story of the Portland Mavericks, a scrappy, independent baseball team of underdogs started by actor Bing Russell in the 1970s.
