Lakeshore Records has announced the details of the new soundtrack album for the Syfy original series Defiance. The album features the songs from the show’s second season performed by Brendan McCreary, Young Beautiful in a Hurry, Raya Yarborough and Trace Adkins. The soundtrack will be released digitally on May 26. A physical version is also in the works and is now available for pre-order on Amazon. Sparks & Shadows has previously released a soundtrack album featuring composer Bear McCreary’s music for the series. Defiance created by Rockne S. O’Bannon and starring Grant Bowler, Julie Benz, Stephanie Leonidas, Jaime Murray, Tony Curran, Graham Greene, Mia Kirshner and Fionnula Flanagan will return for a third season on June 12, 2015. ‘Woman in Gold’ Soundtrack Details

Sony Classical will release a soundtrack album for the drama Woman in Gold. The album features the film’s original music composed by Martin Phipps (Brighton Rock, Harry Brown) and Hans Zimmer (The Dark Knight, The Lion King, Inception, Gladiator, Interstellar). The soundtrack will be released overseas on May 29, 2015. No word yet on a domestic release date. Woman in Gold is directed by Simon Curtis and stars Helen Mirren, Ryan Reynolds, Daniel Bruhl, Katie Holmes, Charles Dance, Elizabeth McGovern and Frances Fisher. The movie follows an elderly Jewish woman who fled Vienna during World War II and, sixty years later, starts her journey to retrieve family possessions seized by the Nazis. Elliot Goldenthal’s ‘Symphony in G-Sharp Minor’ to Be Released

Zarathustra Music will release an EP featuring Elliot Goldenthal‘s concert work Symphony in G-Sharp Minor. The Academy Award-winning composer whose film scores include Frida, Interview with the Vampire, Heat, Batman Forever, Alien 3 and Public Enemies composed the piece, which was commissioned by the Pacific Symphony and marks his second collaboration with the orchestra following the oratorio Fire Water Paper. The symphony premiered last year at the Renée and Henry Segerstrom Concert Hall in Costa Mesa, CA. The EP featuring the symphony’s two movements Moderato con moto and Rondo agitato will be released on May 12, 2015 and is now available for pre-order on Amazon and iTunes.
Sir Peter Maxwell Davies to Score ‘The Great Getaway’

The Telegraph is reporting that Sir Peter Maxwell Davies is set to compose the score for the upcoming historical drama The Great Getaway. The film is directed by Robbie Moffat and will star Peter Mullan and Brendan Gleeson. The movie tells the story of Bonnie Prince Charles aka Charles Edward Stuart, grandson of deposed James II who flew to the Islas after crushing defeat at Culloden. Muffat is also writing the screenplay and Mairi Sutherland is producing the Palm Tree Universal production. The drama will mark Davies’ first film score since 1971’s The Devils directed by Ken Russell and starring Oliver Reed & Vanessa Redgrave. Read the rest of this entry »

The only wide release this weekend is Marvel Studios’ Avengers: Age of Ultron written and directed by Joss Whedon and starring Robert Downey Jr., Chris Hemsworth, Mark Ruffalo, Chris Evans, Scarlett Johannson, Jeremy Renner, Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Elizabeth Olsen, Paul Bettany and Cobie Smulders. The film’s original music is composed by Brian Tyler (Iron Man 3, Thor: The Dark World, Furious 7) and Danny Elfman (Spider-Man, Batman). Opening in limited release is the period drama Far from the Madding Crowd directed by Thomas Vinterberg and starring Carey Mulligan, Matthias Schoenaerts, Tom Sturridge and Michael Sheen. ‘Fifty Shades of Grey’ Remixes Soundtrack Announced

Republic Records will release a new soundtrack album for the film adaptation of Fifty Shades of Grey. The album features remixes of the songs from the best-selling soundtrack by The Weeknd, Ellie Goulding, Sia, Laura Welsh, Jessie Ware, AWOLNATION, Skylar Grey, Vaults by artists including Kaskade, CANVAS, Praia, SOHN, Gazzo, Marian Hill & more. Also included is a remix of Danny Elfman’s score track Ana and Christian by Heavy Mellow. Fifty Shades of Grey Remixed will be released on May 4, 2015 and is now available for pre-order on Amazon. Mychael Danna to Score Pixar’s ‘Sanjay’s Super Team’

Mychael Danna has been tapped to compose the music for the upcoming Pixar animated short Sanjay’s Super Team. The film is directed by animator Sanjay Patel who makes his directorial debut and follows a young Indian boy who is watching cartoons on TV and begins “daydreaming a kind of ancient, Hindu version of “The Avengers,” with the gods appearing like superheroes.” Nicole Paradis Grindle is producing the short, which marks Danna’s first project for Pixar Animation and his second animated film following 2007’s Surf’s Up.
