wsaAs in previous years, the World Soundtrack Academy will give out the SABAM Award for Best Young International Composer to young international film music talent during this year’s World Soundtrack Awards (WSA) during the 42nd Film Fest Gent in Belgium. Three finalists will be invited for a three-day visit in Ghent where they will have their compositions performed by the Brussels Philharmonic and conducted by Dirk Brossé during the 15th World Soundtrack Awards, which takes place on October 25, 2015 and will also honor composers Alan Silvestri and Daniel Pemberton. The film is directed by J Blakeson (The Disappearance of Alice Creed) and stars Chloë Grace Moretz, Nick Robinson,” Ron Livingston, Maggie Siff, Alex Roe, Maika Monroe, Zackary Arthur and Live Schreiber. The movie based on the young adult novel by Rick Yancey is set in the present day after four waves of increasingly deadly attacks have left most of Earth decimated and follows a 16-year-old girl who is on the run and desperately trying to save her younger brother. The album features the songs from the film by artists including Bob Dylan, Jefferson Airplane, Little Joy, The Skyliners, The Antlers, Sam & Dave, Dexter Gordon, Nancy McCallion & more. The soundtrack will be released physically on May 19, 2015 and is now available for pre-order on Amazon. Audio clips are embedded after the jump. As previously reported, the label will also a separate soundtrack featuring composer Rob Simonsen’s original score from the film. menken-schwartzDeadline is reporting that Universal Pictures has acquired an untitled comedy musical to be directed by Jeremy Garelick (The Wedding Ringer), starring Josh Gad and featuring music by Alan Menken and Stephen Schwartz. The movie is said to follow a “domestic who integrates into family with a busy single mother, and becomes an important part of the clan”. Garelick is also writing the screenplay based on a story by himself and Gad. Michael De Luca (The Social Network, Captain Phillips, Moneyball, Fifty Shades of Grey) will serve as the producer on the project alongside Garelick, Gad, Menken & Schwartz. brian-tylerBrian Tyler has been hired to score the upcoming political drama Truth. The film marks the directorial debut of screenwriter James Vanderbilt (The Amazing Spider-Man, Zodiac, White House Down) and stars Robert Redford, Cate Blanchett, Topher Grace, Elisabeth Moss, Bruce Greenwood and David Lyons. The movie is based on the 2005 memoir Truth and Duty by Mary Mapes about a series of memos critical of President George W. Bush’s Texas Air National Guard service record that had been discovered in the files of the president’s former commanding officer. Vanderbilt has also written the screenplay and is producing the project through Mythology Entertainment company, alongside Brad Fischer (Shutter Island, Zodiac), Doug Mankoff, Andy Spaulding , Mikkel Bondesen and William Sherak. Broadcast Music, Inc. (BMI) has announced today that Alexandre Desplat will be honored with the organization’s Icon Award for outstanding career achievement at this year’s BMI Film & Television Awards. The composer has received eight Academy Award nominations over the last decade for such films as The King’s Speech, The Queen, The Curious Case of Benjamin Button, Fantastic Mr. Fox, Philomena, The Imitation Game, Argo and received his first Oscar earlier this year for Wes Anderson’s The Grand Budapest Hotel. He also received a Golden Globe and two Grammys and was nominated multiple times for both awards. ‘Poldark’ Soundtrack Announced

The album features selections from the show’s original music written by Academy Award-winning composer Anne Dudley (The Full Monty, Black Book, American History X). The soundtrack will be released overseas on May 11, 2015 and in the U.S. on June 8.
