Two new movies are opening nationwide this weekend:

straight-outta-comptonExpected to top the weekend box office is the biographical drama Straight Outta Compton directed by F. Gary Gray and starring O’Shea Jackson Jr. as Ice Cube, Corey Hawkins as Dr. Dre, Jason Mitchell as Eazy-E, Aldis Hodge as MC Ren, Neil Brown, Jr. as DJ Yella and Paul Giamatti as N.W.A.’s manager Jerry Heller. The film’s original score is composed by Joseph Trapanese (Insurgent, Oblivion, Earth to Echo). Dr. Dre has released his first record in 16 years inspired by the movie last Friday. the-man-from-uncleAlso opening wide is the film adaptation of The Man from U.N.C.L.E. directed by Guy Ritchie and starring Henry Cavill, Armie Hammer, Alicia Vikander, Elizabeth Debicki, Jared Harris and Hugh Grant. Daniel Pemberton (Steve JobsThe Counselor) has composed the film’s original music. WaterTower Music has released a soundtrack album featuring the composer’s score, as well as  the songs from the movie by artists including Roberta Flack, Nina Simone, Peppino Gagliardi, Louis Prima & more. The show is based on Stephen King’s 2011 novel of the same title and stars James Franco, Sarah Gadon, Josh Duhamel, T.R. Knight, Daniel Webber, Chris Cooper, Cherry Jones, George MacKay, Lucy Fry, Jack Fulton and Leon Rippy. The 9-parter follows a high school English teacher who travels back in time to prevent the assassination of President John F. ‘Outlander’ Vol. 2 Soundtrack Details

outlander-2Madison Gate Records will release a new soundtrack album for the Starz original series Outlander. The album features more music from the show composed by Bear McCreary (The Walking Dead, Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., Battlestar Galactica, Da Vinci’s Demons) who recently received an Emmy Award nomination for his work on the series. Also included is an extended version of the main titles song, The Skye Boat Song, performed by Raya Yarbrough. The Vol. 2 soundtrack will be released on September 25, 2015 and is now available for pre-order on Amazon. The label has previously released the Vol. 1 soundtrack album earlier this year. Outlander created by Ronald D. maggies-planMichael Rohatyn is reuniting with director Rebecca Miller on the upcoming comedy Maggie’s Plan. The film is written and directed by Miller and stars Greta Gerwig, Ethan Hawke, Bill Hader, Maya Rudolph, Travis Fimmel, Ida Rohatyn, Wallace Shawn and Julianne Moore. The movie follows a young woman whose determination to have a child involves her in a love triangle with an unhappy academic and his eccentric critical-theorist wife. The album features the film’s original music composed by Golden Globe nominee Brian Byrne (Albert Nobbs, Boychoir, The Good Doctor). Also included is Mary Lambert’s She Keeps Me Warm, as well as four original songs written by Byrne, with lyrics by Kasey Jones, and performed by Kristina Train. ‘True Detective’ Soundtrack Details

The album features the songs from the show, including the main titles song of the first season, Far From Any Road by The Handsome Family and the opening titles track from the second season, Nevermind by Leonard Cohen. Other artists featured on the soundtrack include Lera Lynn, Nick Cave & Warren Ellis, Bob Dylan, John Paul White, Cassandra Wilson & more. T Bone Burnett serves as the album’s producer. The soundtrack will be released this Friday, August 14 by Harvest Records/Electromagnetic Recordings and is now available for pre-order on Amazon. The 6-parter is created by David Simon (The Wire, Treme) and stars Oscar Isaac, Catherine Keener, Alfred Molina, Winona Ryder, LaTanya Richardson Jackson, Bob Balaban, Jim Belushi and Jon Bernthal. Paul Haggis (Crash, The Next Three Days) has directed all episodes.
