sclLast night, the Society of Composers & Lyricists (SCL) hosted its annual reception honoring the Emmy Award-nominated composers and songwriters in the music categories at the Montage hotel in Beverly Hills. SCL president Ashley Irwin, as well as Television Academy music peer group governors Rickey Minor (who is nominated this year for his music direction for Smithsonian Salutes Ray Charles: In Performance At The White House) and Michael A. Levine introduced the nominees who briefly addressed the audience. All composers nominated in the Outstanding Music Composition for a Series category were present at the event, including Mac Quayle who received his second Emmy nomination for Mr. RobotChris Bacon who is also nominated for the second time for his work on Bates Motel, previous Emmy winner Sean Callery who is nominated in the category for Fox’s Minority Report, first time nominee Paul Leonard-Morgan who is up for an Emmy for his music for CBS’ LimitlessAbel Korzeniowski who received his second consecutive Emmy nomination for Showtime’s Penny Dreadful and Duncan Thum who is also nominated for the second time for his work on Netflix’s Chef’s Table. Among the nominees in attendance in the Outstanding Music Composition for a Miniseries, Movie or a Special category were Jeff Russo who received his second Emmy nomination for his score for the second season of FX’s Fargo, multiple Emmy winner Jeff Beal who is nominated this year for his work on Jesse Stone: Lost in Paradise following his win last year for House of CardsDavid Lawrence who received his first Emmy nomination for Disney Channel’s movie Descendants and Martin Phipps who was honored with his third Emmy Award nomination for his work on the mini-series War & Peace.

Among the nominees in attendance in the Outstanding Main Title Theme Music category were Robert Duncan who received his fourth Emmy nomination for his main titles theme for ABC’s The Whispers, Sean Callery whose second nomination this year is for the main titles music for Netflix’s & Marvel’s Jessica Jones, first time nominee Johnny Klimek who co-wrote the theme for Netflix’s Sense8 with Tom Tykwer and previous Emmy winner Adam Schlesinger who co-wrote the title song for the CW’s Crazy Ex-Girlfriend with Rachel Bloom. Schlesinger is also nominated in the Original Music and Lyrics category, alongside first time Emmy nominee Diane Warren who is up for an award for her Oscar-nominated song ‘Til It Happens to You from The Hunting Ground, as well as Kate Micucci & Riki Lindhome who are nominated for the song Frozen Lullaby from Garfunkel and Oates: Trying to Be Special and also attended the event in person.
