son-of-zornPremiering tonight is the new Fox comedy Son of Zorn created by Reed Agnew & Eli Jorne and starring Johnny Pemberton, Cheryl Hines, Tim Meadows, as well as Jason Sudeikis as the voice of Zorn. The show’s original music is composed by Leo Birenberg (Red Army, Big Time in Hollywood, FL). churchills-secretAlso premiering tonight in the U.S. is the television movie Churchill’s Secret directed by Charles Sturridge and starring Michael Gambon, Lindsay Duncan, Romola Garai, Matthew Macfayden, Bill Paterson, Daisy Lewis, Tara Fitzgerald, James Wilby and Rachel Stirling. Adrian Johnston (Becoming Jane, Kinky Boots, Brideshead Revisited) has composed the film’s original music. emmysThe Creative Arts Emmy Awards are being handed out this afternoon at the Microsoft Theatre LA LIVE in Downtown Los Angeles. Sean Callery has won his fourth Emmy Award for the main titles theme for his main titles theme for Netflix’s Jessica Jones. He previously received three Emmys for his work on 24. Victor Reyes was honored with his first Emmy Award in the Music Composition for a Limited Series, Movie or a Special category for his music for AMC’s The Night Manager.  Mac Quayle received his first Emmy Award for his music for USA’s Mr. Robot in the Music Composition for a Series category.  Read the rest of this entry »

The film is directed by Alexandre Moors (Blue Caprice) and stars Jack Huston, Jennifer Aniston, Tye Sheridan, Alden Ehrenreich, Toni Collette and Jason Patric. The movie based on the novel by Kevin Powers follows two young soldiers who are taken under the wing of an older, troubled sergeant as they are deployed to Iraq. Four new movies are opening nationwide this weekend:

sullyExpected to top the weekend box office is the drama Sully directed by Clint Eastwood and starring Tom Hanks, Aaron Eckhart and Laura Linney. The film’s original music is composed by Christian Jacob and The Tierney Sutton Band. Eastwood has contributed the score’s theme and also co-wrote the end titles song Flying Home based on his theme. when-the-bough-breaksAlso opening wide is the thriller When the Bough Breaks directed by Jon Cassar and starring Morris Chestnut, Regina Hall, Romany Malco, Michael K. Williams, Theo Rossi and Jaz Sinclair. John Frizzell (Alien: Resurrection, The Following, Dante’s Peak, Office Space) has composed the film’s original score. Madison Gate Records has released a soundtrack album featuring the composer’s music. sclLast night, the Society of Composers & Lyricists (SCL) hosted its annual reception honoring the Emmy Award-nominated composers and songwriters in the music categories at the Montage hotel in Beverly Hills. SCL president Ashley Irwin, as well as Television Academy music peer group governors Rickey Minor (who is nominated this year for his music direction for Smithsonian Salutes Ray Charles: In Performance At The White House) and Michael A. ‘Blair Witch’ Soundtrack Details

blair-witchLakeshore Records will release a soundtrack album for the horror thriller Blair Witch. The album features the film’s original music composed by director Adam Wingard (The Guest, You’re Next) who makes his feature scoring debut on the project. The soundtrack will be released digitally on September 16, 2016 and is now available for pre-order on Amazon. A physical version will released a few weeks later and can be pre-ordered here. Blair Witch is directed by Wingard, written by Simon Barrett and stars James Allen McCune, Callie Hernandez, Brandon Scott, Valorie Curry, Corbin Reid and Wes Robinson. The movie follows a group of college students who venture into the Black Hills Forest in Maryland to uncover the mysteries surrounding the disappearance of James sister who many believe is connected to the legend of the Blair Witch. passengersThomas Newman has been hired to score the upcoming sci-fi romance Passengers. The film is directed by Morten Tyldum (The Imitation Game) and stars Jennifer Lawrence, Chris Pratt, Michael Sheen, Laurence Fishburne and Aurora Perrineau. The movie is set on a spacecraft in the future traveling to a distant colony planet and transporting thousands of people that has a malfunction in its sleep chambers. The album features the film’s original score composed by Alex Heffes (The Last King of Scotland, Roots, 11.22.63, Mandela: Long Walk to Freedom). Also included is the original song Back to Life by Alicia Keys, as well as tracks by HAB and Young Cardamom, MC Galaxy, A Pass, Bobi Wine, Michael Kiwanuka & more. The soundtrack will be released on September 23, 2016 by Walt Disney Records and is now available for pre-order on Amazon. Queen of Katwe starring David Oyelowo, Lupita Nyong’o and Madina Nalwanga tells the true story of a young girl selling corn on the streets of rural Uganda who became a Woman Candidate Master after her performance at the World Chess Olympiad. James Horner Revealed as Original Composer for ‘The Great Wall’

the-great-wallSimon Franglen revealed in a recent interview with Pop Culture Tonight that James Horner was contracted to score the upcoming fantasy epic The Great Wall before his death last summer. The job ultimately went to Ramin Djawadi who is composing the music for the film directed by Zhang Yimou and starring Matt Damon, Pedro Pascal, Willem Dafoe, Andy Lau, Zhang Hanyu and Eddie Peng. Horner was also attached to score Mel Gibson’s Hacksaw Ridge and James Cameron’s Avatar sequels before he passed away. Read the rest of this entry »
