Four new movies are opening nationwide this week:

singAlready playing nationwide since this past Wednesday is the animated feature Sing directed by Garth Jennings and starring Matthew McConaughey, Reese Witherspoon, Scarlett Johansson, Seth MacFarlane,Taron Egerton, John C. passengersAlso now playing nationwide is the sci-fi romance Passengers directed by Morten Tyldum and starring Jennifer Lawrence, Chris Pratt, Michael Sheen, Aurora Perrineau and Laurence Fishburne. Thomas Newman (American BeautyThe Shawshank RedemptionFinding NemoSkyfall) has composed the film’s original score. goldVarese Sarabande will release a soundtrack album for Stephen Gaghan’s drama Gold starring Matthew McConaughey, Bryce Dallas Howard, Edgar Ramirez, Corey Stoll, Toby Kebbell, Bruce Greenwood and Stacy Keach. The film’s music is composed by Daniel Pemberton (Steve JobsThe Man from U.N.C.L.E.The Counselor) who also co-wrote an original song for the movie with Iggy Pop, Gaghan and Brian Burton. The album features the film’s original music composed by Stuart Hancock (Atlantis). The soundtrack is now available digitally overseas. harry-escottHarry Escott is scoring the upcoming British thriller Dark River. The film is written and directed by Clio Barnard and stars Ruth Wilson, Sean Bean and Mark Stanley. The movie follows a woman who returns to her home village for the first time time in 15 years after the death of her father, to claim the tenancy to the family farm she believes is rightfully hers. Tracy O’Riordan is producing the Film4, Left Bank Pictures and Moonspun Films production. Escott has previously collaborated with Barnard on her previous two features, The Selfish Giant and The Arbor. Dark River is expected to be released in the UK in 2017. Read the rest of this entry »

jim-james-foleyRepublic Records will release the original song The Empty Chair from the documentary Jim: The James Foley Story. The track is written by Academy Award nominee J. Ralph (Lucky Number Slevin, The Cove, Chasing Ice) and Sting who also performs the song, which will be released tomorrow as a digital single and is now available to download on AmazonJim: The James Foley Story is directed by Brian Oakes and centers on the life and work of American journalist James Foley, who was killed by ISIS terrorists in 2014.  To learn more about the documentary, which premiered at this year’s Sundance Film Festival and aired earlier this year on HBO, visit the official movie website.

madibaTodor Kobabkov has been tapped to score the upcoming BET mini-series Madiba. The drama is directed by Kevin Hooks (Prison Break, Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D) and stars Laurence Fishburne as Nelson Mandela, alongside Orlando Jones, David Harewood, Michael Nyqvist and Terry Pheto. The 3-parter is based on two Mandela autobiographies, Conversations With Myself and Nelson Mandela by Himself and tells the story of a younger Nelson Mandela during the early-60s as he deals with the political unrest engulfing South Africa.  Read the rest of this entry »

inconvenient-sequelJeff Beal is composing the original music for the upcoming documentary An Inconvenient Sequel. The film directed by Bonni Cohen & Jon Shenk (The Island President, Audrie & Daisy) is the sequel to the 2006 documentary An Inconvenient Truth and follows Vice President Al Gore as he continues his tireless fight, traveling around the world training an army of climate champions and influencing international climate policy. Richard Berge (The Rape of Europa) and Diane Weyermann (Citizenfour) are producing the project. Davis Guggenheim (Waiting for Superman, He Named Me Malala) who helmed the Academy Award-winning original film (scored by Michael Brook) serves as an executive producer on the project. The film is directed by David Soren (Turbo) and features the voice talent of Ed Helms, Kevin Hart, Thomas Middleditch, Nick Kroll, Kristen Schaal and Jordan Peele. The movie is based on the book by Dav Pilkey and centers around two mischievous kids who hypnotize their mean high school principal and turn him into their comic book creation, the kind-hearted and elastic-banded Captain Underpants.
