Four new movies are opening nationwide this weekend:
Opening in most theaters is Disney’s fantasy drama A Wrinkle in Time directed by Ava DuVernay and starring Oprah Winfrey, Reese Witherspoon, Storm Reid, Mindy Kaling, Guru Mbatha-Raw, Michael Peňa, Levi Miller, Zach Galifianakis and Chris Pine. The film’s original music is composed by Ramin Djawadi (Game of Thrones, Westworld, Pacific Rim, Iron Man). Walt Disney Records has released a soundtrack album featuring the composer’s score, as well as the songs from the movie by DJ Khaled feat. Demi Lovato, Sade, Sia, Kehlani and Chloe x Halle. Also opening wide is the action comedy Gringo directed by Nash Edgerton and starring Joel Edgerton, David Oyelowo, Amanda Seyfried, Charlize Theron, Yul Vazquez, Thandie Newton and Sharlto Copley. Christophe Beck (Ant-Man, Frozen, Edge of Tomorrow, The Hangover, The Muppets) has composed the film’s original score. No word on a soundtrack album. Kathryn Bostic (Dear White People, Middle of Nowhere) is set to compose the music for the upcoming indie drama Clemency. The film is written and directed by Chinonye Chukwu and stars Alfre Woodard, Aldis Hodge, Richard Schiff, Wendell Pierce and Danielle Brooks. The movie revolves around a prison warden who confronts her own psychological demons as she develops an emotional connection to the death row inmate she is scheduled to execute.
Sony Classical will release the official soundtrack album for the BBC and Netflix mini-series Troy: Fall of a City. The album features selections of the show’s original music composed by Rob (aka Robin Coudert) (Maniac, Horns, Populaire, Every Secret Thing, Amityville: The Awakening). This week, Max Richter has been recording his score for the upcoming German period drama Werk ohne Autor. The film is directed by Florian Henckel von Donnersmarck (The Lives of Others, The Tourist) and stars Tom Schilling, Sebastian Koch, Paula Bee, Saskia Rosendahl, Oliver Masucci, Bastian Trost and Lars Eidinger. The movie is inspired by the real life of German painter Gerhard Richter and follows an artist who flees from East Germany to West Germany but is still haunted by his experiences under both the Nazi and communist dictatorships.
Sony Classical will release a soundtrack album for the historical drama Paul, Apostle of Christ. The album features the film’s original music composed by Academy Award winner Jan A.P. Kaczmarek (Finding Neverland, Unfaithful, The Visitor and Get Low). The soundtrack will be released digitally on March 23 and physically on April 6. Visit

MovieScore Media will release a soundtrack album for the Norwegian historical drama The King’s Choice. The album features the film’s original music composed by Johan Söderqvist (Let the Right One In, Kon-Tiki, After the Wedding, In a Better World). Fil Eisler has composed the music for the upcoming AMC original series Dietland. The show is created by Marti Noxon and stars Joy Nash, Julianna Margulies, Adam Rothenberg, Rowena King, Mya Taylor and Mark Tallman. The drama is based on Sarai Walker’s 2015 novel of the same name and takes a loot at society’s obsession with weight loss and fashion as seen through the eyes of those who work in the beauty industry. Noxon is also executive producing the AMC Studios and Skydance Television production with David Ellison (Mission: Impossible – Rogue Nation), Dana Goldberg & Marcy Ross (Jack Ryan), Maria Grasso, Bonnie Curtis (Minority Report, A.I. Artificial Intelligence) & Julie Lynn (Life, Passengers) and Jacqueline Hoyt.
A.R. Rahman (Slumdog Millionaire, 127 Hours, The Hundred-Foot Journey, Couples Retreat, Million Dollar Arm) is set to compose the music for the upcoming Bollywood remake of The Fault in Our Stars. The movie marks the directorial debut of casting director Mukesh Chhabra and will star Sushant Singh Rajput. The drama produced by Fox Star Studios India is based on John Green’s novel of the same title and the 2015 movie directed by Josh Boone and starring Shailene Woodley & Ansel Elgort.
