Also opening wide is the period thriller The Death of Robin Hood written and directed by Michael Sarnoski and starring Hugh Jackman, Jodie Comer, Bill SkarsgÃ¥rd, Noah Jupe and Murray Bartlett. Opening semi-wide in around 500 theaters this weekend is the coming-of-age drama Girls Like Girls co-written and directed by Kiyoko based on her hit single and novel of the same title and stars Maya da Costa, Myra Molloy, Levon Hawke and Zach Braff. The film’s original score is composed by Jessica Rose Weiss (No Hard Feelings, Cinderella, The Kill Room, The Independent, Canary Black, Don’t Make Me Go, Dog Gone, Trouble). KRO and One Riot Records have released a “companion” soundtrack album featuring fourteen songs from and inspired by the film by Kiyoko last week. Opening in select U.S. theaters is the British sci-fi drama Rose of Nevada written and directed by Mark Jenkin (Enys Men, Bait) and starring George MacKay, Callum Turner, Francis Magee, Edward Rowe, Rosalind Eleazar, Mary Woodvine and Adrian Rawlins. Jenkin has also composed the film’s original music. Invada Records has released a soundtrack album featuring the director’s score this past April when the movie opened in the UK. Also opening in select theaters is the crime thriller Unidentified co-written and directed by Haifaa Al Mansour and starring Mila Al Zahrani, Shafi Al Harthi, Aziz Gharbawi, Adwa Al Asiri, Othoub Sharar and Abdullah Al Qahtani. The film’s original music is composed by Amelia Warner (Mr. Malcolm’s List, Young Woman and the Sea, Wild Mountain Thyme, Mum’s List) and Sam Thompson (Shark Whisperer, JFK: One Day in America, 007: Road to a Million, Britain and the Blitz). No word on a soundtrack release. Opening in New York this weekend before expanding to more markets next weekend is the comedy Maddie’s Secret written and directed by John Early and starring Early himself, Kate Berlant, Eric Rahill, Claudia O’Doherty, Vanessa Bayer, Conner O’Malley, Chris Bauer, and Kristen Johnston. Michael Hesslein has composed the film’s original music. No soundtrack album has been announced. The movie, which follows a plucky dishwasher who leaps to viral superstardom at a trendy food content creation company, premiered at last year’s Toronto International Film Festival and is being distributed by Magnolia Pictures.
Opening in select theaters while also premiering on Netflix today is the drama Color Book written and directed by David Fortune and starring William Catlett, Brandee Evans, Jeremiah Daniels and Terri J. Vaughn. The film’s original music is composed by Dabney Morris (Sometimes I Think About Dying, Splitsville, Pavements, Carousel, Broken Diamonds, Procession, Almost Love).
