Walt Disney Records has announced the official soundtrack album for Jon Favreau’s The Lion King. The album features features new recordings of the original songs written by Elton John and Tim Rice for the 1994 animated classic, the score by Hans Zimmer (Gladiator, Inception, The Dark Knight) who received his first Academy Award for the animated movie, plus African vocal and choir arrangements by Grammy-winning South African producer and composer Lebo M. Also included Pharrell Williams produced five songs on the soundtrack. Also included is the John- & Rice-written original song Never Too Late performed by John, that features an African choir and will appear in the film’s end credits. Inside Recordings has released the original song A Human Touch from the documentary 5B. The track is performed by Jackson Browne & Leslie Mendelson and co-written by the singer/songwriters with Steve McEwan. The song is now available as a digital single on Amazon. Premiering in the U.S. tomorrow, June 24, is the British limited series Years and Years created by Russell T. The show’s original music is composed by Murray Gold (Doctor Who, Torchwood, A Very British Scandal, Gentleman Jack). The drama, which follows an outspoken celebrity business woman turned political figure whose controversial opinions divide the nation, premiered last month in the UK on BBC One and will air stateside on HBO. Milan Records has released a soundtrack album for the British drama The Flood. The album features the film’s original music composed by Billy Jupp. The soundtrack is now available to download on Amazon, where you can also listen to audio samples. The Flood is directed by Anthony Woodley and stars Lena Headey and Ivanno Jeremiah. The movie follows a hardened immigration officer who is offered a high-profile asylum case and must uncover whether her client is lying and has a more sinister reason for seeking asylum. Three new movies are opening in theaters nationwide this weekend:
Opening in most theaters is the animated sequel Toy Story 4 directed by Josh Cooley and starring Tom Hanks, Tim Allen, Joan Cusack, Don Rickles, Estelle Harris, Wallace Shawn, John Ratzenberger and Tony Hale. The film’s original music is composed by Randy Newman (Monsters, Inc., A Bug’s Life, Cars, The Natural, Avalon). Lakeshore Records will release a new soundtrack album for the Netflix original series Stranger Things. The album features selections of the original score from the show’s third season composed by Kyle Dixon & Michael Stein.
